Rustikeria – a short break in Tuscany at Müller's public baths

Rustikeria at the Müller'sche Volksbad – Aperitivo, Schiacciata & Vino || From day one, I've been one of the biggest fans of Rustikeria Bottega Toskana, which originally opened in Munich in spring 2018. Six years ago, the couple Massimo and Sabine started their small Bottega in the Glockenbachviertel district, offering what were arguably the best schiacciata, topped with the finest Tuscan ingredients, in all of Munich. The popularity of their delicately topped focaccia bread grew, and so, in February 2024, the charming couple moved everything to the Müller'sche Volksbad. A larger location and more staff were needed to continue serving all the guests and connoisseurs of Tuscan delicacies. The move also brought a more extensive menu, an idyllic terrace, and a daily changing lunch menu.

Together with my companion, I set off to visit Massimo and Sabine and their team at their newly opened premises six months ago and to try some of the numerous delicacies on the menu.

The Rustikeria Bottega Toskana in the Müller'sche Volksbad

If you'd like to eat at the "new" Rustikeria, it's easy to find. Walk directly towards the Müller'sche Volksbad (public bath) along the Isar River, cross the inviting terrace, and you'll soon arrive at the restaurant entrance. A friendly member of staff will greet you, ask about your reservation, and show you to your table. As mentioned, the Rustikeria moved because its original location became too small and more popular. Therefore, I highly recommend booking online before your visit. via the website To ensure you get one of the approximately 75 indoor or 75 outdoor seats, it's advisable to reserve a table.

As soon as you arrive, you'll be captivated by the atmosphere and the ambiance created by the harmonious interior design. Soaring ceilings, numerous green plants, blue upholstered furniture combined with simple wooden tables and decorated with understated floral arrangements, a bar dominating the room with a small counter stocked with Tuscan ham and cheese specialties, and a huge mural that immediately catches the eye—all these elements blend seamlessly into the dining room and make you feel like you're right in the heart of Italy within seconds. But it's not just the decor; the warm and welcoming staff, who promptly provide you with the new menus and ask about your drink preferences, also contribute to the perfect, feel-good atmosphere.

Aperitivo and Vino – try your way through the extensive drinks menu.

Once you've taken in the inviting atmosphere and feel at home, you should definitely take your time choosing your meal. To be able to sample a variety of delicacies from the menu, I recommend coming as a pair or even in a larger group. If this is your first time dining at Rustikeria and you're unsure about the menu, the friendly staff will be happy to assist you. Time for a look at the menu.

The menu of Rustikeria Bottega

As mentioned, the Rustikeria's menu has expanded since the move. Still offered, and in my opinion the culinary highlight of the Bottega, are the incredibly delicious schiacciata. The name refers to the delectable Tuscan flatbread topped with various high-quality ingredients. Similar to focaccia, this fluffy bread provides the perfect base for countless different toppings – all from Tuscany and of the finest quality. At the Rustikeria, you'll find over 25 different ways to customize your schiacciata. From classic or vegetarian options to seafood toppings and various "special schiacciatas," there's something for everyone. Having visited countless times, I've tried many variations and highly recommend coming back often to try something new each time.

If you'd like to start with an appetizer and are interested in the wonderful Tuscan sausage, ham, and cheese products, you should definitely order from the antipasti section first. Wooden platters (tagliere) with various toppings are served, depending on your selection, including cheese, grilled vegetables, sausage, bruschetta, antipasti vegetables, tuna pâté, honey, jam, and more. My recommendation (and our choice): "Il Granducato" – a tagliere with three sausage and two cheese specialties, as well as two bruschetta. Incredibly delicious and the perfect start to your meal. If you're a party of four, you can order a huge platter with Tuscan sausage, cheese, bruschetta, antipasti vegetables, olives, honey, and jam for €95. A cheese platter with all the different cheeses and fried dough balls are also available.

It's worth taking a look at the special menu with regularly changing dishes!

Newly added are the numerous fine à la carte dishes, which include various pasta creations (made from fresh pasta), as well as meat and seafood dishes and freely selectable side dishes.

In addition to the standard menu, there's also a "specials menu" in the form of a handwritten chalkboard, featuring a rotating selection of specials. During our visit, for example, we chose "Tagliata di Tonno in Sesamekruste" from it; my companion opted for a "bestseller" from the standard menu: "Fritto Misto" – fried fish, calamari, and shrimp. It's best to browse the specials yourself. Drinks and menu at Rustikeria But be warned, you'll almost certainly get hungry and want to make a reservation right away. Hot food is served from 11:30 am (lunch starts) until around 11:00 pm. (They have great drinks, Tuscan wines, and desserts. ;-))

Leave room for one of the homemade desserts. My favorite: "TIRAMISÙ AL VIN SANTO"„

Lunch menu at the Rustikeria

Are you stopping by for lunch? – From Tuesday to Friday (closed on Mondays), we offer a delicious lunch menu daily between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm. There are four different dishes to choose from each day, including gnocchi with tomato sauce, Caprese salad, and pasta with or without meat/fish. A small daily appetizer is always served before the main course. All lunch dishes are priced between €12 and €15. It's best to reserve a table.

Personal conclusion, celebrations at the Rustikeria and interesting facts about it

Rustikeria Bottega Toskana remains one of my absolute favorite spots in Munich – and the ambiance is even more appealing now. The service and the team, which has grown to almost 20 people, are still incredibly friendly, chatty, and attentive. Glasses don't stay empty for long, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it feels like being on an Italian vacation. The ingredients are always incredibly fresh, and everything you order is prepared to order.

Parking is rather difficult due to the location. It's best to come by public transport, bike, or on foot – then you can enjoy the Tuscan wine, spritz, and other drinks much more easily. 😉 Because of the adjacent swimming pool, it's very warm inside. Wear a light shirt.

If you're also looking for an event venue (up to 130 people in good weather, approximately 75 people indoors only), then Rustikeria is the perfect partner for you. The food is sure to please everyone, and your wishes will be discussed individually – whether for corporate events, private parties, weddings, or Christmas celebrations. Enjoy your event!
