Get cooking! – These pots and knives make cooking fun – We're all familiar with this by now: We're cooking more, and kitchen utensils that haven't been used in ages are being unearthed from the depths of cupboards and drawers. That's generally a good thing, of course, but let's be honest, some of you have probably come across a kitchen appliance or cookware that's no longer brand new or fully functional, right? 😉 I'm definitely more of an "active cook" type, and no matter how high-quality my pots, pans, knives, and so on are, they inevitably show signs of wear and tear over time, and it's time for something new. That's why, for what will likely be a continued period of cooking at home, I've selected three new, high-quality pots and two great knives. Since I also test many meals and takeaway boxes from Munich restaurants, I want to be able to prepare them professionally. I've once again stuck with the WILFA EGO brand (Read more here: My new kitchen appliances from WILFA), as I was very satisfied last time and have been ever since.
My choice: Pots and knives from WILFA EGO
How do you find the right cooking pot? – Not so easy, is it? I did what most of you do and first researched the "must-have" features of a good pot, then asked around in the cooking community and finally decided on a three-piece set from Amazon, which has the pot sizes I use most often and therefore really need.
What about you? Do you usually only need one large and one small pot, or do you generally only need medium-sized ones? 🙂 That's definitely the case for me, and so I quickly decided on this... WILFA EGO „Produre Pro“ Cookware Set I bought a set of 1.5-liter, 3.5-liter, and 5-liter pots for a total of €280. My new pots have a ceramic non-stick coating and are suitable for all cooktops, including my induction hob. One of the reasons I chose this set is that they have a spout at the top, which is very practical. This allows me to pour liquids precisely and without spills. In addition, my pots are designed for temperatures up to 260 degrees Celsius and are therefore much more robust than many other pots.
My new knives: The WILFA EGO Damascus steel knives
Well, the best pots are useless if you don't have the right food to fill them with, right? 😉 But thinking a step further, cutting meat, chopping vegetables, and so on is only really fun if you have the right equipment, namely sharp knives, right? Since, before ordering, my kitchen problems included not only "mediocre pots" but also "not enough good knives," I decided to take advantage of this as well.
I narrowed my choice down to two different models. One was the WILFA EGO VG-10 Santoku knife made of Damascus steel with an 18 centimeter blade, as well as on the WILFA EGO VG-10 universal knife – also made of Damascus steel and with a 13-centimeter blade. Both knives consist of 67 layers of high-quality Damascus steel and have a blade hardness of 60±2 and a Japanese VG-10 steel core, which gives the WILFA EGO knives high corrosion resistance, a long service life and virtually constant sharpness. The Santoku knife also has indentations in the blade, so nothing gets stuck while chopping. Very practical.
My personal conclusion
I haven't regretted my decision to go with the WILFA EGO brand again, a brand I'm already familiar with. The pots passed their first test – I cooked chicken for a fricassee, braised vegetables, and bean soup in them – and I'm very happy with my choice. I especially like that, in addition to the steel pouring spout, the pots have a glass lid, allowing you to see the food inside. The steam vents on the sides of the lid are also helpful, as they allow steam to escape without having to lift the lid.
Another plus: the pots aren't too heavy. Everyone knows the feeling of needing a third hand, trying to hold the pot with one or both hands while serving the food with the other. When pots (pans, etc.) are too heavy, cooking and serving becomes less enjoyable.
So far, I'm completely satisfied with both knives. With their pressure-treated pakkawood handles, they feel great in the hand, are waterproof, and slice through everything perfectly on the first pass. Those who have read my previous articles know that I already chose a knife from WILFA's EGO series back in October 2020. It still cuts flawlessly and, six months later, doesn't need sharpening. Thumbs up, and be sure to check out WILFA on Amazon – you'll have a great helper at your stove!
