PIZZADORO in the Werksviertel: Pizzas as good as in Italy | Since my recent visit to the Italian restaurant Pizzadoro, I know once again that you can definitely fall in love not only with people, but also with food. Yes, really! At Pizzadoro, which opened in Haidhausen in May 2020, I was served one of the most delicious pizzas far and wide. While still eating my chosen pizza, I sent a message to a handful of people telling them they absolutely had to come by and try one of the 38 different pizzas. A clear sign that I was sitting in front of a really good pizza and that I had discovered a top-notch Italian restaurant in Munich's Werksviertel with Pizzadoro.

You'll feel right at home as soon as you step inside. A friendly, smiling pizza chef stands in front of the stone oven, lovingly shaping and topping the pizzas. Behind the bar, the charming Italian bartender, who will later mix your drinks, greets you, and the staff welcomes you warmly and attentively. From the moment you arrive, you're treated like an old friend and shown to your chosen table. Besides the warm and welcoming, all-Italian team, the food is also top-notch. Only high-quality, authentic Italian dishes grace your plate at Pizzadoro, dishes you won't find better even in Italy. Before I tell you about my experience at this relatively new Italian restaurant, let me give you a brief overview of Pizzadoro's background and its owner, Rosario.

Pizzadoro – where a lot of love is cooked for the guests.

Rosario, a native of Sicily, is a restaurateur through and through and loves to host his guests and spoil them with delicious Italian food. His entire Italian family has been rooted in the Italian restaurant industry for many years. So it quickly became clear to Rosario that he wanted to run a fantastic restaurant here in Munich, serving dishes as good as in Italy. No sooner said than done – Pizzadoro opened its doors in the Haidhausen Werksviertel district. Even before the official opening, the premises were already occupied by a restaurant. Before the Italian restaurant opened, everything was renovated, refurbished, and lovingly decorated in Italian style: yellow walls, dark furniture, Italian cookbooks, and typical Italian flair wherever you look. For me, a good restaurant always thrives on its atmosphere, its team, and a harmonious overall impression. I inquired: Only Italians work at Pizzadoro, the food is as good as in Italy thanks to its high-quality ingredients, and the entire ambiance is just right.

Italian pizza made with high-quality ingredients and lots of love – as good as in Italy.

The pizza oven, kitchen, and bar are located in the front of the restaurant. To the left are two dining rooms of different sizes. I sat and ate in the smaller, slightly recessed room. Of course, you can choose where you want to sit. The restaurant seats 50 guests inside, and there's room for another 45 on the terrace seating along the building's facade. Even before entering, you can see the lunch menu on the boards displayed on the facade. You'll also find information about "Pizza Day at Pizzadoro" on Mondays and Thursdays (every pizza for takeout is only eight euros).

The two dining rooms can accommodate approximately 50 guests.

Take a seat and enjoy at Pizzadoro

Once you've found a comfortable spot, you'll be served by the friendly staff – sometimes even Rosario himself. First, they'll take your drink orders (soft drinks, wine, spritz, aperitif, Italian house wine, beer, coffee drinks, etc.) and present you with the extensive menu. If you're unsure what you'd like, they'll gladly offer advice.

My tip: Choose one of the 38 different pizzas! Yes, that's right, there are almost 40 different varieties. Great, isn't it? The pizza dough is exactly how I consider perfect: soft, fluffy, and neither too thick nor too thin. I don't like pizzas whose dough forms thick, often burnt air bubbles when served, even if some people call that "typically Italian." Pizzadoro's pizzas are crispy, generously topped, and simply a culinary delight from start to finish. Even in the middle, despite the ample toppings, they aren't too thin or soggy – unfortunately, that's often the case with very thin pizzas. 'You don't get something for nothing,' and so only high-quality Italian ingredients are used for Pizzadoro's near-perfect pizzas (Mutti's tomato sauce, premium olives from Italy, specially selected superfine wheat flour, etc.). You'll notice a clear difference after the first bite and feel like you're in Italy.

With almost 40 different pizzas to choose from, it's not easy…

A look at the menu

During my stay, I chose a Pizza Bresaola. A white pizza without tomato sauce, topped with bresaola, air-dried Italian beef ham, arugula, buffalo mozzarella, Parmesan, and black truffle. You know I'm crazy about truffles! If you don't like truffles, don't worry – when it comes to toppings, there are virtually no limits to the selection and personal taste preferences at Pizzadoro. You can expect classic pizzas like Margherita, Funghi, Salami, Parma, Quattro Stagioni, Calzone, Caprese, Prosciutto, Regina, Romana, and more, as well as more unusual creations ((Specialty pizzas) Like "Pizza Casareccia" with homemade salsiccia, "Pizza Tirolese" with Tyrolean bacon, "Pizza Vitello Tonnato" with bacon carpaccio and tuna cream, "Pizza Alba" with buffalo mozzarella and black truffle, or "Pizza Calabrese" with salami Ventricina and truffle. Vegetarians will also find plenty of options. Browse the menu and find your personal favorite.

Even those who don't fancy pizza won't go home hungry. There's a well-stocked selection of around 10 different pasta dishes, Italian appetizers and antipasti, salads, and fine meat and fish dishes. In addition, there's a weekly specials menu. So there's plenty of variety on your plate, and even the many regular Pizzadoro customers will never find the menu monotonous.

Key facts and conclusion

Ristorante Pizzadoro is suitable for any occasion, from lunch and casual get-togethers with friends to dinner with loved ones, or even parties, events, and celebrations. The dress code is casual and relaxed – feel free to drop by spontaneously, relax, and enjoy a delicious meal. There are plenty of Italian restaurants in Munich, so let me reiterate: It's well worth coming back here, and even several times. At least for me, I knew I'd be back even before I put down my cutlery.

By the way: All dishes, whether fish, meat, antipasti, appetizers, pasta, or pizza, can also be picked up and taken away from Pizzadoro. Depending on the delivery radius, your food will also be delivered to you. However, I recommend that you come and eat in; then you'll also take the Italian flair, the friendly service, and lots of Italian love home with you. 😉
