A coordinated interior and many small details create a feel-good atmosphere in the S.Zimmer Glockenbach.

Get to know the S. Room Glockenbach

The S.Zimmer Glockenbach restaurant opened its doors for the first time in mid-July 2021, combining a wine bar and gourmet restaurant. Even the view from the outside, through the glass facade of the historic building, whets the appetite and invites you to enter the stylishly designed interior. Once inside the wine bar, the first eye-catcher is undoubtedly the centrally located bar and the countless wine glasses decoratively suspended from the ceiling, hinting at the extensive wine list. At S.Zimmer Glockenbach, you immediately feel at ease: dark green chairs with velvet upholstery, light wooden tables adorned with fresh flowers and candlelight, a huge painting of the building dating back to 1924, ample spacing between tables, and an all-around harmonious and welcoming atmosphere wherever you look.

In keeping with the design concept, the service team is also warm and attentive. This begins with a friendly greeting, taking your coat, seating you at your preferred table, and presenting you with the menu and wine list upon arrival. At S.Zimmer Glockenbach, you can feel comfortable and well taken care of even before your first sip of wine or your first meal selection. No wonder, given this fantastic setting. The wine list and the food menu

The S.Zimmer Glockenbach wine list boasts over 130 different selections and vintages. The white wines come from Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, and France; the rosé from Austria, Italy, and France; and the red wines also from Germany, Austria, France, and Italy.

At S.Zimmer Glockenbach, champagne (Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvée and Griesel Sekt Blanc de Blancs), as well as rosé, white, and red wines are offered by the glass. Since S.Zimmer Glockenbach also uses the Coravin system, they can additionally serve first-class and exclusive wines by the glass that are only available by the bottle elsewhere. A great wine: The Silvaner „Eigenart“ from Max Müller I

Of course, you can also let the warm hospitality guide you through your evening and your stay without even looking at the menu – the friendly sommelier Antonia Amtstätter and manager and hostess Sarah Breinl will be there to help. During your visit, be sure to check out the well-stocked wine cabinet in the back of S.Zimmer Glockenbach. This will give you a good overview of the wine selection, and you can, of course, choose directly from there if a particular wine catches your eye.

The menu at S.Zimmer Glockenbach is intentionally concise yet well-organized, ensuring that every glass of wine is complemented by a perfectly matching plate. Even if you're just popping in for a glass of wine and/or champagne and a light snack is all you need, you'll find plenty of options on the menu, including marinated olives, bruschetta, antipasti, cheese, and cold cuts.

The menu is divided into the following sections: "Oysters" (single, trio with a glass of Bollinger Champagne, a (half) dozen, or panko-battered); "Starters" with 90 or 140 grams of beef tartare or a pumpkin coconut cream soup with coriander oil; "Salads" with various toppings to choose from; "Flammkuchen" (Alsatian flatbreads); "Pasta"; "Main Courses"; and "Sweets." Each category offers three to five creations, such as Alsatian-style Flammkuchen, Mediterranean, tomato concassé, or vegetarian options. Main courses include entrecôtes of German grass-fed beef, surf and turf, and mussels in white wine broth. For pasta, you can choose between "Al Limone," "Salsiccia," or "Scampi." The complete menu can be found on the website of the restaurant. S. Zimmer Glockenbach – why not browse through the menu beforehand?.

There is also a tarte flambée option on the menu for vegetarians.

Those who follow a vegetarian diet should opt for the extremely delicious tarte flambée or the Pasta Al Limone with fresh tagliatelle, lemon, cherry tomatoes, chili, garlic and Parmesan.

My visit to the site

As described in detail, my companion and I felt extremely comfortable at S.Zimmer Glockenbach from the very first minute. Our anticipation reached its peak when the charming hostess Sarah offered to guide us through the evening's culinary offerings, and sommelier Antonia signaled the "liquid start" to the evening with a glass of Bollinger Rosé Champagne.

Wow! I've rarely eaten such good beef tartare. It comes with homemade bread.

The meal began with a beef tartare prepared à la minute with house-made mixed pickles and toasted homemade sourdough bread (so good!), followed by half a dozen Fines de Claire oysters with a refreshing lime vinaigrette. These delicious starters were accompanied by a glass of 2019 "Eigenart" Silvaner from Max Müller I in Franconia. A great wine and, for example, a good way to begin your stay if you want to ease into things.

Next up was a Mediterranean-style tarte flambée, which was so good I simply had to ask what made it taste so special. The secret: beneath the topping of tomatoes, onions, Parma ham, and arugula, fresh lime zest is incorporated into the crème fraîche, giving the crisp and paper-thin tarte flambée an even fresher touch. My recommendation to you: just drop by for a glass of wine and the S.Zimmer Glockenbach tarte flambée, and you'll immediately understand my enthusiasm. Incidentally, I paired the tarte flambée with a perfectly matched Franconian Silvaner.

Since we were eager to try new things, we had a round of pasta before the main course. The creation of fresh tagliatelle with fennel salsiccia, broccoli, tomato, and Parmesan cheese was simply too tempting to resist, and Antonia brought us a glass of 2018 "Gevrey-Chambertin" from Chanson in Burgundy – for me, thanks to the superb vintage and the 15 months of aging in small oak barrels with its Pinot Noir grapes, it was the best wine of the evening. The pasta was incredible! I'm not usually a fan of warm sausage in pasta dishes, but that's precisely why I wanted to try this particular creation. Simply delicious and superb in combination with the red wine – so if you enjoy pasta, you should definitely treat yourself to the same dish.

Regional ingredients are used whenever possible – in this case: Bavarian fillet from a young bull.

After a short break – I like to let each course linger a bit – we were each served a glass of red and white wine to accompany our main courses. The red wine – a 2018 "Les Albizzias," Côte du Rhône Domaine Saint, Etienne, Rhône – was served with the "Surf & Turf" dish of 180 grams of fillet of young German bull beef and black tiger prawns, chimichurri, rosemary jus, roasted mashed potatoes, and lemon gel. The white wine – a 2018 "Puligny Montrachet," Etienne Sauzet from Burgundy – accompanied my mussels in a white wine broth with root vegetables and garlic baguette. The exquisite mussels, paired with both the superb wine and the exceptionally delicious broth, which was perfect for dipping with the garlic baguette, were, incidentally, my culinary favorite of the entire evening. Anyone who hasn't dared to try mussels yet can do so with a clear conscience at S.Zimmer Glockenbach.

Be sure to leave some room in your stomach for the delicious dessert.

Finally, we enjoyed two desserts – a homemade crème brûlée with fresh berries and a chocolate lava cake with a molten center, vanilla ice cream, and quince chutney. We also had a digestif; my companion enjoyed a 12-year-old blended Scotch whisky from Chivas Regal, and I had a rosé vermouth.

Key facts, background information and conclusion

At S.Zimmer Glockenbach, you're welcome whether you're looking for a leisurely dinner with your loved ones, a glass of wine after work with friends and/or colleagues, or simply a quick snack. The service is exceptionally attentive and friendly, and if desired, they will readily engage with you and offer expert advice on wine and food selections.

Thumbs up across the board!

Parking in the Glockenbachviertel district can be a bit of a challenge, but public transport (U2 subway line / Fraunhoferstraße station) is just a stone's throw away. For inquiries regarding events, (Christmas) parties, and the like, you can contact the team on-site at any time; even small groups are welcome. Your wishes – including those concerning food and drinks – will always be discussed and fulfilled personally; even special requests will be accommodated flexibly.

My conclusion: I can wholeheartedly recommend a visit to S.Zimmer Glockenbach. Sarah told me that they're expanding their vegetarian options, adding fish to the menu soon, and offering a constantly changing selection of dishes. So, thumbs up all around – especially for the young kitchen team. I'll definitely be back and I'm already looking forward to the service, a pleasant evening, and the excellent food. My companion also thoroughly enjoyed it, and for me, the best restaurants are the ones where I say "We'll be back!" to my companion as soon as I leave. Don't miss this brand-new Munich culinary highlight.
