GRAND OPENING: HeimWerk im Tal – Regional Slow Food || I recently had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened restaurant "HeimWerk im Tal" (Opening October 2021). Those who regularly follow my website and social media posts will already be familiar with HeimWerk – specializing in regional and fresh slow food – as there have been popular HeimWerk restaurants in Schwabing and Glockenbach for several years. Now, with this third Munich opening, the heart of Munich can also look forward to delicious schnitzel and freshly made Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake), produced from regional and high-quality ingredients. Together with my companion, I sampled some of the highlights from the HeimWerk menu – including some entirely plant-based options.
Get to know the HeimWerk in the valley
HeimWerk stands for classic regional cuisine and excellent drinks, including specialty beers from the local area. The restaurant focuses on high-quality, handcrafted, and fresh ingredients. Everything you order at the Bavarian-modern HeimWerk in the valley is therefore based on these principles. „"one's own homeland"“ and „"best craftsmanship"“ produced and prepared for you – that's what it stands for HomeWork ("Home" + "Craft" = HomeWork). Thus, the ingredients used not only come from the region and are of the best quality, but are also produced from species-appropriate animal husbandry and without artificial additives.
As another "Home Improvement" highlight, you decide for yourself whether you only want one serving of your chosen dish. „"Snack"“ for a light snack, or a „"Meal"“, In other words, if you want to order a normal portion, you can order dishes from the menu in two different sizes – from schnitzel to Kaiserschmarrn. This is a concept that I find a) very rare in Munich and b) ideal for trying new things and sharing with friends at the table. (Sharing principle) and of course also for supporting the so important „"no waste"Thoughts. It's better to order again than to send back high-quality food.
Meals are served in the familiar modern and cozy "HeimWerk" ambiance: open-plan design, lots of wood, neon HeimWerk lettering on the wall, long dining tables and benches with HeimWerk logos embossed in the tabletops, green plants and a A perfectly harmonious and welcoming atmosphere.. The HeimWerk in the valley also has a cozy bar, which invites you to linger and sip cocktails and aperitifs.
I especially love the glass front, which offers an open view of the lively valley below. So you sit at one of the tables with your delicious slow food, savor your meal, and watch the colorful hustle and bustle of Munich's city center. For me, it's the perfect cozy atmosphere, combined with high-quality, regional cuisine. Time for a look at the menu, perhaps?
A look at the menu
Before we go into detail, first a note that you All three HeimWerk restaurants in Munich have identical menus. – including the offered lunch menu. This means you can order and enjoy the same delicious food at every branch, no matter which neighborhood you're in. So now you can enjoy your Schwabing and Glockenbach HeimWerk highlights at the HeimWerk in Tal while taking a leisurely stroll through the city center.
Once you have the menu in front of you, the concept, as I described above, will be explained first. HeimWerk im Tal doesn't offer appetizers, except for a freshly baked pretzel with two different spreads (Obazda and herb cream cheese). The menu then goes straight to the... „Main courses“ under the guise of "Chopping takes place here"„ Let's go. We offer you: four different vegetarian schnitzels and nine different schnitzels made with meat from species-appropriate animal husbandry – each selectable as a „snack“ or „regular meal“.
For the vegetarian schnitzel, you can choose between zucchini, vegetable-potato, mushroom or vegan celery schnitzel The latter, for example, is made with an in-house, vegan chickpea and parsley breading and is finely fried for you and served with a side dish (titled "Beiwerk" at HeimWerk) of your choice.
Even with the "meat schnitzels," you can choose your side dishes separately, entirely according to your own taste. The following are offered – quite classically – Pork, veal, or even Munich schnitzel. Anyone who wants a little variety in their schnitzel should order this. Crispy schnitzel, chili schnitzel, Bavarian cordon bleu (pork), mountain cheese schnitzel (veal), or hemp and turmeric schnitzel (chicken)..The name of each schnitzel reveals the base of its homemade breading. For example, the chili schnitzel has a chili coating, the turmeric schnitzel a crispy turmeric coating, and the mountain cheese schnitzel a house-made coating with mountain cheese. Delicious and very creative.
Also Schnitzel burger will be offered to you. Here you decide whether you prefer one plant-based burger with vegetable and potato fritters, or order a classic schnitzel burger made with pork or veal. For example, a chili schnitzel burger and a mountain cheese schnitzel burger are also on the menu.
Before we get to the category of "side dishes", or side items, you will be shown... some alternative main courses named – in case there ever is one lettuce or it can be an alternative to schnitzel. There is also (again available in two sizes) an additional option. Vegetable stew, delicate veal meatballs, juicy pieces of fried chicken, spinach dumplings with melted butter and cheese spaetzle with roasted onions. The aforementioned lettuce At HeimWerk in the valley, you can also choose entirely according to your own taste and optionally top it with goat cheese, fried chicken, strips of veal schnitzel, or grilled seasonal mushrooms..
Now to the „"Accessories"“. Here too, you decide what you would like to order with your schnitzel – whether vegetarian, vegan or made with local meat. The following options are available: Potato salad, a small mixed salad, hot vegetables, fries (regular or sweet potato) and fried potatoes. Furthermore, there are In addition to ketchup and mayonnaise, there are numerous other homemade HeimWerk sauces., which you can order as accessories.
Even with desserts, HeimWerk doesn't bother with unnecessary gimmicks and simply offers... Only one dessert, but a very good one: Kaiserschmarrn. – available in „snack or meal size“ and in four different varieties. These include, of course, the classic version with torn dough, caramelized and combined with homemade apple compote, or also with chocolate-nut cream or warm sour cherries. Variant number four, which includes a little alcohol, Eggnog – My next to-do at HeimWerkt in the valley. Except for the Kaiserschmarrn with liqueur, all three other varieties can also be ordered vegan.
My personal visit to the HeimWerk in the valley
Now you already know the concept and the map of HeimWerk, and of course you will also receive more information below. my personal impressions As described above, I arrived with my companion, was checked in, and immediately seated at a large window table. Personally, I always know within seconds whether I can feel comfortable in a place or not. At HeimWerk im Tal, everything pointed to a positive experience, and I was delighted with my cozy spot, the friendly service, and, of course, the upcoming culinary adventure.
We hadn't been sitting long when we immediately received our drinks, the „"Bavarian Spritz"“ with Aperol, wheat beer, lemonade, orange, lime and beer foam and the „"Herbal Pear Spritz"“ It was served with pear, rosemary, thyme, Prosecco, and soda. First, we toasted – Cheers! – and then chose our dishes. We opted for the Vegetarian zucchini schnitzel with sweet potato fries as a side dish and for the Mountain cheese schnitzel with hot zucchini and carrot vegetables. We were then brought all the dips and sauces to try – my favorites were the salad dressings. „"Herb yogurt" and "honey mustard"“, the type of dip „Chili dip“. We ordered both dishes in the "snack" size, the small version. The side dishes are always a fixed size.
I especially liked the The distinct taste of mountain cheese is evident within the crust. The mountain cheese schnitzel was delicious. The side dishes were plentiful, the sweet potato fries were nice and crisp, and the vegetables were perfectly crunchy. We deliberately placed the schnitzel, sides, and dips in the center of the table. based on the sharing principle and reached in boldly and with satisfaction. My tip: If you're feeling a bit hungrier, feel free to order two different main courses in "snack" size, along with a suitable side dish, and sample your way through the menu with your companion. But don't forget a snack amidst all the nibbling and nibbling! to leave a gap for the Kaiserschmarrn.I ordered a "snack" size of the classic version to try it and didn't regret my decision. You're served a very delicious and fluffy Kaiserschmarrn, which, combined with fine applesauce, definitely leaves nothing to be desired for those with a sweet tooth. The following generally applies: The "snack" size is ideal for all dishes, whether you have a smaller appetite or are hungrier to try two or three different dishes.
My personal conclusion
What I like best about HeimWerk in the valley is that you can order a "snack" or a "regular" size. This allows you to try different things without any pressure, and nothing goes to waste. People often associate eating schnitzel with being "heavy, hearty, and plentiful." But that doesn't have to be the case, and depending on your chosen side dishes, you can put together a fairly easily digestible meal. For example, if you choose a meatless schnitzel with vegetables on the side, you'll not only be satisfied with a high-quality meal, but also with a healthy one.
Besides the excellent food, definitely prepared with high-quality ingredients, I also appreciate the warmth of the team; you immediately feel comfortable and welcome. I can't stress this enough: no food is so good that I'll return if the service isn't friendly. At HeimWerk, you don't have to worry about that.
So grab your loved ones – including vegetarian and/or vegan friends, family, and relatives – and stop by HeimWerk in the valley. Feel free to say hi from me and think of me when you place your order – ideally with a mountain cheese schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn, and the like. I'll definitely be back.
