My new favorite when it comes to fish: The Atlantik restaurant

Culinary delights in the Dreimühlen district: Gourmet & fish restaurant Atlantik || Over the past 15 years, I've rarely heard a question as often as: "Bianca, where can you find particularly good fish in Munich?" Since your needs are important to me, I don't want to miss the opportunity to give you the ultimate answer. Recently, my companion and I visited the elegant Atlantic fish restaurant and enjoyed a truly unforgettable experience with top-quality food, perfectly paired wines, and exceptionally warm service. So, your search is over, and seafood and fish lovers can look forward to exquisite Atlantic cuisine par excellence in Munich's Dreimühlen district.

The history of the Restaurant Atlantik

Unlike many other restaurants, Restaurant Atlantik thrives not only on its outstanding cuisine, welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service, but also on its unique history. Restaurant Atlantik has been a fixture in Munich since 1996. It originated as a fishmonger's shop, which owner Peter Feigl initially established and operated on the premises. The finest fish from distant lands has always been his passion – fishmongers, friends, and restaurateurs from all over Munich shopped there. Over the years, more and more people came not only to buy fish, but also because the owner occasionally served fresh fish soup and other specialties. Word spread, and gradually, the former fishmonger's hotspot transformed into a dedicated fish restaurant. Over the years, the premises underwent numerous renovations and expansions, resulting in an ideally laid-out fish restaurant with various private dining rooms, spaces, and an inviting conservatory. In 2010, the initial fish trading business came to an end, and the Atlantik restaurant, a purely gourmet establishment, found its niche. Today, it is run by Peter and his wife Anja and is appreciated and loved by numerous regular customers. Co-owner Anja, with her meticulous attention to detail, ensured (and continues to ensure) harmonious design elements within the restaurant and a thoroughly well-thought-out concept.

The Atlantik restaurant today

Restaurant Atlantik is located in a listed brick building and is divided into four private dining rooms, a conservatory (my favorite spot!), and a terrace. Each room offers the ideal setting for individual needs, depending on the occasion. The beautifully decorated private dining rooms are perfect for parties and events with groups of 10 to 16 people; the inviting conservatory can accommodate 50 to 60 people; and the charming bistro can seat up to 30 people. (The entire restaurant can also be booked for events with up to 130 people.)

Restaurant Atlantik exudes a very special charm from the moment you step inside. This is partly due to the warm and welcoming team and the harmonious atmosphere, but also to the attractive decor and the thoughtfully designed layout. My favorite spot is the glass-roofed conservatory at the back of the restaurant. Elegantly set tables, vines climbing the brick wall, tasteful decorative touches here and there, and pleasant background music instantly transport you to a vacation state of mind.

Based on this, the concept of Restaurant Atlantik is based: refined and authentic Atlantic cuisine (…hence the name…), prepared with market-fresh and exclusively the highest quality ingredients. The dishes are served in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. In short, as a guest of Atlantik, you should simply feel comfortable, enjoy yourself, and leave completely happy, full, and satisfied. When it comes to selecting fish for Atlantik, owner Peter continues to rely on his keen sense for the best fish and, thanks to his long history in the industry, obtains fish for his restaurant that you won't find in many other places in Munich. Besides large spider crabs and lobster prepared à la minute (…the lobsters are purchased live and spend time in the restaurant's own saltwater tanks before preparation…), you can expect up to four different types of oysters, freshly caught whole fish daily, and much more.

The menu at Restaurant Atlantik constantly offers new highlights. Dishes are exchanged or added depending on availability and season. Divided into "Appetizers" (oysters, scallops, tuna tartare, and shelled lobster), "Main Courses from the Charcoal Grill" (turbel, whole monkfish with head and neck, sea bass, whole Nova Scotia lobster, Bavarian beef fillet, and surf & turf), "Side Dishes" (roasted potatoes, white asparagus (currently available), or wild garlic risotto), and "Desserts" (grilled pineapple, molten chocolate cake, and a selection of sorbets), the menu is intentionally concise yet designed to ensure that every guest will find something to their liking.

Set menus will soon be available again at Restaurant Atlantik. Of course, you can also request a surprise menu with a well-balanced sequence of courses during your visit, optionally paired with the perfect wine. My tip: Take advantage of the friendly staff's expertise in menu selection and decide spontaneously at your table based on their recommendations.

10 points across the board for the Atlantik restaurant

My personal visit to the Atlantik restaurant

Restaurant Atlantik was one of those places I'd been looking forward to visiting all week. A quick glance at the menu was enough to heighten my anticipation for the meal. Upon arriving at our table, my companion and I were treated to a glass of Taittinger Rosé Champagne, homemade sourdough bread, and delicate herbed cream cheese.

We let ourselves be surprised by the menu selection and left it entirely to the kitchen. So we started with a warm grilled oyster, dressed with lobster and chive oil. You either love oysters or you hate them; I love them, and thanks to the Atlantik restaurant, I know that grilled oysters taste even better to me than the "classic" smaller version with lemon. Next came (…I had really wanted it…) a gratinated scallop with (currently) green asparagus and bergamot foam. I've actually tried to prepare scallops myself quite a few times, as I often didn't like them in restaurants. Now the scallop pan can stay in the cupboard, because from now on I'll be going to Restaurant Atlantik for them. They're listed on the menu as a trio, combined with seasonal products. In my glass, I enjoyed a harmonious Grüner Veltliner "Steilterrassen" from the Atzberg winery, a 2020 vintage.

Click on the oyster and reserve. It's worth it!

Before we got to the "heart" of the meal – we were served the most exquisite surf and turf – there was a grilled king prawn with wild herb salad and a delicate lobster vinaigrette. Amazing! If you're there, you absolutely MUST order it, or to put it another way: my companion was just as thrilled as I was and completely "forgot" to share with me. 😉 The surf and turf then truly lifted me to new heights. In my opinion, it's the answer to how a restaurant can stay in business in Munich for almost 25 years. With freshness, top quality, skill in the kitchen, and absolute freshness. Both the beef fillet were cooked to the desired doneness and were melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the lobster was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. Seasonal white asparagus was served as a side dish. Simply fantastic all around!

Of course, we couldn't resist the newest dessert on the menu, so we ordered a grilled pineapple with coconut and passion fruit sorbet – served in half a coconut. Even though I'm not usually a dessert fan, I was completely won over. So, definitely leave room for something sweet at the end.

The sweet finale to the evening: grilled pineapple in half a coconut.

Your visit to the Atlantik restaurant: Conclusion and recommendation

A visit to Restaurant Atlantik is a must for every fish and gourmet enthusiast. There was absolutely nothing to criticize. Service – 10 points, food – 10 points, warmth – 10 points, and everything else – another 10 points. This restaurant will be my new summer hotspot and definitely my new answer to the question of where to find the best fish. My recommendation: Ask the team (or Peter directly) about the wine selection. Over 600 different wines await you in the spacious wine cellar – combined with the on-site expertise, this guarantees fantastic wine and food pairings.

And definitely let the chef guide you through the evening. Browse the menu and feel free to ask for the chef's recommendations. Personally, I always enjoy dining at this upscale restaurant even more that way. What are you waiting for? Reserve a table at the Atlantik for yourself and your loved ones and see for yourselves.

(Have fun and best regards from me to Anja and Peter Feigl and the Atlantik team.)
