MEDICI – tolle italienische Küche in Neuhausen

Medici! That's the name of the fantastic Italian restaurant where I recently ate with my companion on Nymphenburgerstrasse in Neuhausen. I hadn't been to this lovely Munich restaurant before, but the visit was definitely worthwhile, and the five-course menu was a pure delight, course after course.

We were lucky enough to have temperatures over 25 degrees Celsius on the evening of our visit, allowing us to sit outside. The owners had set up a large television showing football matches. Overall, the spacious terrace of the Medici is very inviting and cozy, and from the street, you'd never guess that there are well over 20-25 tables hidden behind the protective hedges. I found it very comfortable, happily stayed longer than necessary, and blankets were readily available had I gotten cold.

We had reserved a table by phone beforehand, which wasn't necessary, as we had our pick of seats both inside and outside. Inside the restaurant, there are another 20-25 tables, a red wall with a huge picture, a dark bar in the front glassed-in area, and a few other details that create a cozy atmosphere. I used the very clean restroom during the evening, and about half the tables inside were occupied, with around 10 outside. In terms of ambiance, I would definitely describe Medici as having an Italian flair. Overall, however, it feels quite modern, thanks to the rattan furniture on the terrace, the natural light streaming in, the modern lamps, and the light-colored walls. Personally, I wouldn't necessarily come back just for the location, but I would definitely go back today for the food, ideally for lunch and dinner.

As mentioned before, we opted for a five-course meal! The first course was a salad with seafood and scampi, dressed with a delicious and refreshing dressing. The salad was beautifully presented and tasted absolutely divine. The portion wasn't too large, which was just as well, because we were completely full after finishing our dessert spoons, as is usually the case with set menus. There was plenty of scampi, too; I left the rest of the seafood with my companion and swapped it for the scampi. 🙂 I only like scampi myself, but that's certainly a matter of personal taste. The second course was a very tasty and intensely flavorful asparagus cream soup. This portion was a bit larger, but I simply had to finish it because it was so delicious – especially when paired with the various fresh types of bread. What struck us after the first course was that the waiters, and of course the chef, took their time between courses, not serving them immediately one after the other, especially not as soon as the empty plate was brought back. The timing was just right, allowing us to savor each course without feeling like we were waiting too long. I almost died for the third course: potato gnocchi with a porcini mushroom filling and truffle. A dream! Wonderfully soft and delicious. Combined with the truffle, it was simply divine. If you don't like truffles, you certainly will after this. This was followed by pike-perch fillet, risotto, and scampi with two different sauces – another culinary masterpiece! The fish was incredibly delicate, the sauces intensely flavorful – one with pesto, the other with paprika – and absolutely delicious. The risotto was also wonderful. To finish, there was a lemon mousse. It wasn't just creamy, but also contained small pieces, giving it an additional, interesting dimension. The dessert was garnished with a few strawberries. The entire menu left absolutely no room for criticism, and I would order it again in a heartbeat. The menu cost €113 for two people – excluding drinks. Certainly not exactly cheap, but definitely worth the price. We also paid an additional €15 for three glasses of wine, a small water, and a cappuccino. Very friendly service, all Italians. We each ordered 0.1l Lugana (€3.20), Chardonnay (€3.50), and Gavi di Gavi (also €3.50). Along with the olives served as an appetizer, there was a basket full of very fresh bread with various types. Although we were asked if we wanted more when the basket was empty, we didn't receive any despite our request – it seems they forgot. But that was the only criticism. Admittedly, we weren't asked if we enjoyed two courses with a particular waiter, but I actually prefer that to having been asked if I hadn't enjoyed the food. 🙂

If you don't choose a set menu, there are of course also individual dishes available to order. Several plates of truffle pasta, various pasta dishes, and appetizers were carried past us. Next to us sat a larger group who were also having a set menu and were served wonderfully beautiful meat dishes, bruschetta, and desserts. I think, therefore, that you can't go too wrong at Restaurant Medici. Everything simply tastes delicious. You can get a glimpse of the menu here. here. Appetizers range from €3.50 to €9.50; soups around €4.50; pasta dishes from €7 to €11.50 on the regular menu, pizzas averaging €8, and meat and fish dishes from €15.80 to €20.80. Certainly not cheap, but reasonable by Munich standards, and the quality of the food is quite good. The daily specials menu also features a tasting menu – a menu paired with wines and beers – for €33, or €44.50 with wine pairings per person. From Monday to Friday, there are always two different set menus to choose from at lunchtime for €7.90 or €8.90. You can also view the lunch menu online.

The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:30 PM, and on Sundays and public holidays from 11:30 AM to 11:30 PM. For your events, birthdays, etc., you can also contact Medici, and they will create a perfect menu with the right ambiance, tailored to your wishes. The best way to get there by public transport is via Maillingerstraße (U1 subway line), or by car – we found a parking space right in front of the restaurant. I definitely recommend a visit. You're sure to find great Italian food, friendly service, a great atmosphere, and a pleasant ambiance. In the summer, you can sit outside, enjoy the sunshine, and savor delicious food. Give it a try!
