Konstantin & Friends is a Greek restaurant in Munich, located on Tumblingerstrasse, in the former premises of the popular club "Barysphär." Now, Konstantin & Friends has taken over the space – a cooking school, restaurant, delicatessen, and meeting place for all ages, anyone who wants to enjoy a pleasant evening with great food in a fantastic atmosphere. Since November 2013, you can visit this stylishly furnished and incredibly cozy restaurant near Munich's Kapuzinerplatz. Parking is available, and the quickest way to reach it by public transport is via Goetheplatz (U6 line).
I recently went there for dinner with my companion on a rather spontaneous occasion. Forget the idea of a typical Greek restaurant with a standard menu and "normal" Greek dishes, as well as a simple or monotonous atmosphere. Here, the menus—both the weekly specials and the regular menu—feature dishes like summer risotto with watermelon and feta (€14.50), sea bass tartare with coconut-lime velouté (€15.50), tomato gazpacho with feta mousse (€7.50), and seafood pappardelle (€14.50). Octopus risotto (€14.50), sea bream fillet, and pork chop are also available. After we were both presented with the elegant menus, my companion opted for the chicken souvlaki with eggplant purée and feta flakes (€14.50). I chose the aforementioned summer risotto. To start, we ordered an Aperol Spritz and a Hugo. Both drinks were delicious and refreshing, served with straws. When we ordered a second round, the friendly waiter asked if we'd like a regular Hugo or a lavender Hugo. My companion was feeling adventurous and chose the lavender Hugo. This is also my drink recommendation for you if you're ever there. Essentially a regular Hugo, but with a very sweet and lavender aftertaste. Both of our main courses were delicious. My risotto was very creamy, yet the rice still had a nice bite. The combination of the small melon cubes and feta scattered on top of the risotto was particularly tasty. Absolutely delicious; I would order it again in a heartbeat. My companion's dish was also wonderful. I tried the eggplant purée with feta and was very pleasantly surprised. Here, too, the combination with the cheese was a very successful blend. The bacon-wrapped chicken was very tender and also delicious. Overall, two very successful main courses. There was a starter platter available for €18.50 with nutty olive tapenade, vegetables in puff pastry, and stuffed grape leaves – but we decided against it. The next table ordered it, and it looked very appealing.
The restaurant's ambiance is fantastic. The weather was quite pleasant on our evening, so we sat outside on the terrace, which was decorated with small palm trees, potted flowers on the tables, and was generally very cozy. They were also showing the World Cup matches. Inside, only two or three of the numerous elegant tables with designer chairs, all already set, were occupied. The long, inviting bar inside contributes significantly to the cozy atmosphere. I felt comfortable as soon as I walked in. Overall, the restaurant exudes a remarkably comfortable, warm, and welcoming ambiance.
Konstantin & Friends offers not only a fantastic restaurant on the ground floor with a terrace in the basement, but also a small delicatessen. The impressive vaulted cellar with its exposed brick walls invites you to stock up on Greek specialties such as ouzo, pasta, wine, pita, small lemon-flavored tarts, olive oil, mandarin pasta, tea, and much more to take home. If you're in the area, be sure to go down there. The cellar also houses a wine bar and an event space. You can also rent the entire cellar for your private events and celebrations.
The restaurant also offers breakfast from Monday to Friday until 11:30 am and Saturday and Sunday until 3:00 pm. You can choose between the "Crete" breakfast (€12.50) with a small onion salad, fried egg or omelet with truffles and mushrooms, spinach pitta, etc.; the "Santorini" breakfast with tuna carpaccio, eggplant mousse, tarragon oil bruschetta, and pomegranate sauce (€13.80); or the "Konstantin & Friends" breakfast (€12.50) with Greek yogurt, honey, walnuts, scrambled eggs with arugula, tomato, and smoked cheese, and a small bread basket. A cheese and/or charcuterie board with Greek cheeses and sausages (€7.50 each), egg dishes, koulouri, and various omelets (from €4 to €5.50) are also available. The prices are reasonable – for both breakfast and main courses – and reflect the quality offered. Snacks to take away (or eat in) are also available. The service was exceptionally friendly. As soon as we were handed the menus, we were informed which dishes were unfortunately unavailable that evening, and throughout our approximately three-hour visit, we were repeatedly asked if we were satisfied. We were served, among other things, by a friendly lady with excellent wine knowledge and a very pleasant manner. We didn't have to wait long for anything, and everything tasted excellent. We paid €66 including tip for two main courses, an Aperol Spritz, and three Hugo cocktails – one of them lavender. Quite reasonable. With the bill, we also received a small Greek sweet snack: a kind of fig mousse between two thin wafers. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM, and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Card payments are accepted. I would recommend making a reservation, even though it was relatively empty when I was there. Don't make the trip for nothing. Have fun at Konstantin & Friends – a great Greek restaurant in Munich.
