The Alex is located directly on the lively and popular Rotkreuzplatz in Neuhausen and is directly accessible via the same U-Bahn station. It was formerly called Alex. Bean and malt —which currently still exists near Munich's Stachus and Marienplatz. Alex exudes a warm ambiance and was completely renovated and spruced up before the change of ownership and renaming. The interior design and overall layout of Alex are chic and create a warm and inviting atmosphere: light wood tables and leather chairs, stylish lamps, light walls with sturdy columns throughout the dining area; long, black leather banquettes, a long, dark bar with ample lighting and glass elements, and stylish wallpaper all contribute to a cozy and comfortable feel.

Alex's menu offers a colorful mix (soups, starters, curries, baguettes, ciabatta, pasta, schnitzel, tarte flambée, burgers, steaks, black tiger prawns, curried coconut soup, Caesar salad, baked potato, desserts, etc.). After receiving the menu from a very friendly waiter, we opted for Thai curry with chicken and fresh vegetables, and ribbon pasta with arugula and fresh chanterelle mushrooms. For starters, we chose bruschetta, which unfortunately bore little resemblance to real bruschetta – although opinions on that are usually quite divided. In this case, it was more of a hearty baguette with tomatoes and cheese – a bit too heavy, but very tasty, as a starter. The main courses were fairly portioned and definitely sufficient – in fact, my companion helped me with my portion because, once again, I couldn't finish it all.

The Thai curry was fresh, with a variety of vegetables and tender chicken. The ribbon noodles were perfectly al dente and, combined with the numerous fresh chanterelle mushrooms, very delicious. To drink, I had a spritzer and a Hugo. I asked for a straw – as I usually do when ordering a Hugo at a restaurant – and the waiter – which I feel is a positive point, as I've also experienced the opposite in other restaurants – simply handled the straw with a napkin and placed it in my drink. Those who read my articles regularly know that I have a slight quirk about this and don't like it when my straw is handled with fingers.

Worth mentioning, as it wasn't exactly a positive experience for guests: During our stay, our server changed three times, and we had to place our drink order twice because the first server didn't pass it on to the second. Oh well... Not the end of the world, but not great service either. Otherwise, everyone was friendly and pleasant. We didn't have to wait long for our food and drinks and were able to enjoy our meal.

In summer, the area in front of Alex is filled with tables and chairs under parasols, inviting you to sit and relax on the lively Rotkreuzplatz. The terrace is huge and rather bustling and noisy – at least in summer – but still cozy, because there's plenty to see and the sun shines pleasantly on the tables (try it out, it's fun!). Alex also offers a varied breakfast – weekdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, and Saturdays until 1:00 pm. Brunch is served on Sundays and public holidays from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm for €14.50 – excluding drinks. I haven't tried it yet, but I definitely will soon, as my friends say the breakfast is very good. Of course, Alex also offers cocktails, sodas, and other cold drinks. During happy hour from 9:00 pm on weekends, every cocktail costs just €4.90.

The Alex restaurant is part of a chain. There are similar locations in Pasing and other German cities. You can find the Alex that's most convenient for you on their website. We felt very comfortable at Alex during our spontaneous meal – without a reservation. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food. Give it a try! We paid a total of €36 for two drinks and two main courses. Card payments are accepted, but I would recommend making a reservation for brunch and dinner.
