Antica Trattoria | Harlaching – The Antica Trattoria – a restaurant in Munich/Harlaching – describes itself on its menu as follows: „Elegant ambiance with typical „Cucina Italiana“ – directly on the banks of the Isar River. We serve Italian specialties with a touch of Tuscany. Our restaurant is located in a listed Art Nouveau villa in the leafy Harlaching district. Since opening in 1994, the Antica Trattoria has been the meeting place for all those who appreciate modern Italian cuisine. On warm days, you can enjoy your meal in our cozy summer garden. Interior design accents include light walls with half-height dark paneling and the deep red upholstery of the chairs. Our two dining rooms comfortably seat 70 and 50 guests respectively. On the terrace, we can accommodate 120 people.“ And that pretty much sums up reality. We felt comfortable from the very beginning, and the cozy atmosphere and inviting ambiance greeted us immediately upon entering. A variety of pizzas were available, such as Margherita with cheese and tomatoes for €5.90, Funghi with cheese, tomatoes, and mushrooms for €6.50, Salami for €6.50, Prosciutto with ham for €7.50, Pizza Regina, Hawaii, Napoli, Verdura with mixed vegetables or Tonno for €7.90, or Casa with everything for €9.50. Specialty pizzas included Caprese with mozzarella and cherry tomatoes for €8.50, Frutti di Mare, Pizza Paganini with Parma ham and Parmesan cheese, and Pizza Affumicata with salmon and creamed horseradish, each for €11.50. Various pasta dishes were also offered, ranging from €7.50 to €8.90. Various spaghetti dishes with tomato sauce and basil, aglio e olio, bolognese or carbonara, three different penne dishes – arrabbiata, siciliana with aubergines and quattro formaggi, or lasagna with minced beef and cheese, or cannelloni topped with spinach, ricotta and parmesan.
We made a reservation by phone in advance and got the last available table when we arrived, as the restaurant was almost full. I would definitely recommend making a reservation beforehand. The service at Antica Trattoria is impeccable. The waiters, all Italian, are attentive and also have a sense of humor. For example, we wanted to pay by card, but our waiter misunderstood and thought we wanted the menu again. We waited 10 minutes before we realized our mistake. The waiter joked that he would have loved to keep us there longer.
We were served a small amuse-bouche as a starter. A kind of "pizza slice" with cheese and herbs, which was very tasty and a good beginning. I generally find this a great way to start a meal in a restaurant, and it's always memorable. Our main courses were served at the same time. Before choosing a dish from the regular menu, the daily specials were listed for us. My companion opted for a relatively simple Pizza Regina (for €7.90), which unfortunately wasn't particularly impressive. I tried a slice and thought it was quite alright – it's a matter of taste, as I personally prefer a less crispy crust and a bit more topping. My companion found it too soggy and thin. I ordered... “Branzino al Sale” – The sea bass with vegetables cost €18.50. It was shown grilled whole on a platter, then boned and attractively prepared, served with delicious vegetables. With the lemon squeezed on top, it was a true feast for the palate – incredibly tender and delicious! To drink, we chose a 0.25l glass of Lugana for €7 and a 0.2l glass of Chardonnay for €5.20. Absolutely delicious! I love Lugana! Both paired perfectly with my fish, so you can definitely order either again. 🙂 We also ordered a 0.75l bottle of still mineral water for €5.40. They offer a lunch menu with daily changing dishes between €8.50 and €12.50. Examples include vegetable soup and Pollo alla fiorentina – chicken fillet with spinach and cheese in a white wine sauce with rice. These dishes change daily at the restaurant, but – like all the food there – are prepared daily using fresh ingredients. The bread served was also fresh and delicious, and was accompanied by wafer-thin, crispy pieces of bread or chip-like breadcrumbs.
We paid €47 including tip via card, which certainly isn't cheap for a simple pizza and some fish with two glasses of wine. However, the area is apparently one of the trendier spots; the restaurant is right next to the green walking paths along the Isar River. If you don't know that Antica Trattoria is there, you're unlikely to miss it. The restaurant is open from 11:30 am to 1:00 am. The standard daily menu offers a variety of appetizers, snacks, meat and fish dishes, as well as currently asparagus and pasta dishes. The menu, which was presented to us again in the restaurant, lists additional items such as pizzas, selected pasta dishes, and fish dishes. Green asparagus with truffles, for example, costs €14.50. Veal medallions with chanterelles, cherry tomatoes, spring onions, and white wine are available for €20.50. The prices are on the higher end; you can certainly find a Pizza Regina elsewhere for less. Antica Trattoria definitely thrives on its wonderful ambiance: dark furniture, checkered curtains, subtly and thoughtfully chosen decorative elements, numerous wine bottles, flowers, and large pictures on the walls. A large archway runs through the center of the restaurant, white tablecloths adorn the approximately 18-20 tables, dark parquet floors, high ceilings with simple iron chandeliers, and a red carpet in front of the heavy, dark wooden entrance door. Even the space between the building and the restaurant exudes charm and flair. Outside, there are plenty of inviting seating areas, surrounded by nature.
So, if you like being near the Isar River, enjoy delicious Italian cuisine, and appreciate excellent service, then Antica Trattoria is definitely the place for you. The Italian flair and cozy atmosphere really shine through. We had to wait a little longer than usual for our main course, but the overall experience was great. We felt comfortable and would definitely come back. If you want to sit down and eat comfortably with your friends or family, this is the perfect spot. It's also suitable for business meetings and a pleasant evening out for two or in a group.
I'll be back: Yes. Even though it's not very centrally located – the direct access to the Isar River and the delicious food in a great atmosphere are sure to impress.
