On June 27th, I was invited to the terrace opening at the Bavarie Brasserie in BMW Welt Munich. Besides an exclusive barbecue, I was treated to delicious salads, excellent service, and a wonderful few hours on a beautiful terrace overlooking Munich's Olympic Park and the Olympic Center. Parking is no problem at all, for example, in the BMW Welt underground parking garage – although if you lose your ticket, you'll have to pay €10 ;-). Alternatively, you can get there quite quickly by taking the U3 subway towards Moosach and getting off at the Olympic Center stop. Once inside BMW Welt, you just have to go up the long staircase – past all the amazing cars – and you'll be right at the entrance to the Bavarie Brasserie. I got a little lost at first and "forced" to wander around BMW Welt, which wasn't a problem at all considering all the fantastic vehicles and shops. (It's worth the trip just for that alone).
The motto was BBQ Friday. This BBQ Friday takes place every Friday from June 27th to August 8th. This means that every Friday – on one of Munich's most beautiful terraces – you can expect a selection of salads with various sauces and your choice of meat and fish, which will be grilled right there on the terrace. Specifically, for €18 per person, you get a Bavarian house aperitif – consisting of Campari, bitter lemon, orange soda, and a hint of elderflower syrup (rather bitter) – as well as four small jars of different sauces to accompany the salads and grilled food. The four sauces are a bone-sucking mustard sauce, a mocho sauce, a black bean sauce, and a cold Béarnaise sauce. I tasted all four – all delicious. But in addition to the sauces, the aperitif, and the selection of bread from Käfer with salted butter and olive oil, there are also the four salads mentioned: a Caesar with Parmesan and croutons; A tabbouleh – couscous salad with parsley and mint; a "Nic Oise" potato salad with potato, green beans, red onion, and olives; and a tomato and bread salad with basil and sea salt. The salads were served in four medium-sized pots and were all simply delicious. My favorites were the Caesar salad and the tomato and bread salad. All very fresh and light.
As an alternative to the aforementioned salads, there was a choice of different meats and one type of fish for the grill. For example, on BBQ Friday, the grill options included 24-hour cooked pork belly – glazed on the grill for €9, 200g entrecôte for €12 and 400g for €22, crisp and spicy Wagyu sausages made from pure beef (a pair for €8), boneless poussin with BBQ flavorings for €12, or gurnard "En Papilotte" for €14. I opted for the grilled gurnard. The friendly server served it to me whole, wrapped in paper, and briefly explained how to debone it. I have to admit, I didn't quite manage it, and I made a huge mess on my plate, constantly had bones in my mouth, and could barely taste the fish. I know that in good restaurants, it's customary to serve fish whole – fresh off the grill – and for the guest to have the "pleasure" of carving it themselves, but in this case, I would have gladly done without it. You can take a look at the fish in the photo. 😉 The little bit of fish I did taste, however, was delicious with the salads.
With the opening of the terrace, many more fantastic dishes – outside of BBQ Fridays – are also on offer here at the Bavarie Brasserie. For example, dishes like red mullet with verjus, celery, and cucumber, or warm couscous with eggplant, parsley, and yogurt await you. A true culinary delight and a taste of vacation under the open sky here on this wonderful terrace. Executive Chef Bobby Bräuer, Head Chef Markus Wilsdorf, and the friendly service team at the Bavarie will also be serving you, for example, hearty pork belly, tender entrecôte with grilled seasonal vegetables, Wagyu sausages (especially well paired with the bone-sucking mustard I was served), and sophisticated salad variations. Käfer Autowelt GmbH is responsible for the culinary experience. They handle all catering at BMW Welt – the gourmet restaurant EssZimmer, the Bavarie, the Biker's Lodge, and the Bistro CooperS. In addition, Käfer's event team manages up to 450 events a year within the venue.
I would definitely recommend making a reservation, as it tends to fill up quickly here – despite the slightly higher prices. The Bavarie Brasserie is open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM and on Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Please note, however, that it will be closed from August 11th to 24th. Definitely stop by. Try to choose a sunny day, as the terrace and the view are primarily dependent on good weather and a stunning, expansive vista. It's certainly more enjoyable in sunshine. Children under six can dine with you free of charge. At lunchtime, the Bavarie offers a very successful business lunch menu of two or three courses for business clients. The Bavarie, whose regular menu is based on the concept of a "Bavarian brasserie," has existed in this format since the end of 2012 – everything was redesigned and renovated after the takeover. The service was excellent. Attentive staff ensured that glasses were always full, plates weren't left empty on the round tables for too long, and guests were satisfied and happy. Any questions about the food were answered promptly and courteously. I would definitely come back. It's certainly not just for a quick snack, as it's a comfortable and pleasant place to sit for several hours, but for a relaxed meal with friends, colleagues, or family, it's an absolute winner.
The restaurant's interior also impresses with its style, taste, light and airy colors, very modern furnishings, numerous tables seating up to 10 people each (with a total capacity of 200 inside), many light wood elements, fashionable lamps, subtle lighting, and a wonderful ambiance. The glass-enclosed terrace offers seating for approximately 100 more people at stylishly set tables with dark rattan chairs. Here, seating is available continuously. Events The upcoming "Midsummer Night's Dream" fireworks display in the Olympic Park can also be wonderfully viewed from here. The Bavarie Brasserie can also be rented for your private events. The cars driving by on the street below are hardly noticeable. Take a look at the pictures and you'll see for yourself how comfortable you can feel here. It's also great for lunch or dinner outside of BBQ Friday.
I'll be back: The food is simple but delicious. If you value a nice atmosphere, this isn't the place for you. But if the food is your top priority and you appreciate a relaxed vibe, then go for it.
