Bombay Tandoori | Indian | Delivery service review – And so the delivery service review series continues, this time with Bombay Tandoori. To be precise, I ordered from pizza.de for the second time and was won over by one of the numerous providers. In this case, it really was true: I ordered from an Indian delivery service, more precisely "Bombay Tandoori" on Rosenheimer Straße, and I was thrilled. Indian cuisine, in particular, presents a few pitfalls when it comes to preparing traditional dishes for Europeans. Bombay Tandoori mastered this with flying colors.
Gulab Jamun – Indian dessert

Bombay Tandoori offers a wide selection of lunch options online, including various appetizers, soups, salads, breads, and vegetarian, meat, and fish dishes. Duck, lamb, chicken, and fish are prepared in typical, traditional Indian dishes. A rather saucy consistency is very common in Indian cuisine, and this is also true for Bombay Tandoori's dishes. Those who prefer a less saucy texture but would still like to try the delivery service should order biryani. Biryani is a classic dish with fried rice, nuts, raisins, and extra yogurt sauce. It can be ordered vegetarian, with chicken or lamb, or with shrimp, and costs between €11.50 and €16.90.
As with most Indian restaurants and delivery services, there's a wide range of dishes to choose from, especially for vegetarians. Here you'll find a relatively small selection, yet still 10 different dishes priced between €9.50 and €10.50. If you're just starting out with Indian cuisine, you should try, for example, "Dal Makhani" – lentils prepared in the Indian style – or Palak Panner – fresh spinach with homemade cheese, which is also one of my favorites.
Vegetarian Samosa – Indian Appetizer
No matter where you order from – including Bombay Tandoori – you should always keep in mind that most Indians, and therefore Indian chefs, have a completely different palate and sense of spices than you do. If you prefer milder flavors, you should mention this in the optional comment field when ordering. This isn't a problem with the desserts, though. While there are only two options, one of them is Gulab Jamun – described online as "sweet quark balls" – which isn't quite accurate. Gulab Jamun is a very classic Indian dessert consisting of deep-fried dough balls in liquid and, as we Bavarians would say, "Babbsias" (extremely sweet). So, if you have a sweet tooth, you've found your dream Indian dessert. Alternatively, there's also Mango Cream (both are €3.90 each).
Naan bread – the classic Indian bread – costs €2.50 per piece and is made in a traditional tandoori oven at Bombay Tandoori. As a general rule of thumb, you can remember that Indians who have a real tandoori oven usually know what they're doing. (Because there is some truly awful naan bread in Munich, too...).

Since I already know all the dishes I described above (…and many more, as I have a great weakness for Indian food…), I ordered something different. There was a classic Chicken Tikka Masala (for a fair €12.50) with masala sauce and grilled in a tandoori oven, a naan bread – classic and without butter or garlic, samosas as a starter (– these are vegetarian filled potato pastries with a crispy coating for €4.90), and the aforementioned Gulab Jamun with two meatballs.
All in all, I can give it a very brief rating. The delivery service – and also the restaurant – Bombay Tandoori is one of the best Indian delivery services I've tried in a long time. Everything was fresh, everything was good, and seasoned (mildly) as requested, with an extremely authentic taste. For a total of just under €24, and considering that Indian food is currently experiencing a period of heightened status ("I eat Indian food, I'm hip" –> therefore: Indian food in Munich is expensive), it's a very fair price.

I highly recommend ordering from Bombay Tandoori through pizza.de. The food is delicious, the prices are fair, and the delivery service is fast. Indian food is often packaged sloppily for delivery, with sauce dripping everywhere. At Bombay Tandoori, everything was neatly packaged and arrived hot.
