Drunken Cow – Bar & Grill | Maxvorstadt The name of the restaurant "Drunken Cow – Bar & Grill," which opened in mid-November 2015, should make it clear that you haven't stumbled into your average steakhouse or burger joint. The Drunken Cow Bar & Grill is much more than that and a thoroughly convincing new addition to Munich's culinary scene. As you, as a fan of my page, know... here As you may have heard, I was recently there and tested the Drunken Cow Bar.
The Drunken Cow Bar is located on Gabelsbergerstrasse in the Maxvorstadt district, centrally located and easily accessible by public transport. My companion and I felt comfortable there as soon as we entered. This was certainly due in part to the warm welcome we received upon arriving at the cozy restaurant with its red upholstered banquettes, gray walls, dark bar and furniture, and dim lighting. Our coats were taken, and we were able to take our seats at our pre-reserved, comfortable table. The bar can accommodate 40 people inside and 30 people outside during the summer months.

The restaurant's focus is clearly on its excellent steaks. This might not seem obvious at first glance when you open the menu and see nearly 20 different types of burgers, but you absolutely shouldn't miss out on a piece of meat. A juicy US flank steak (Creekstone) is available from 200 grams (expandable in 50-gram increments) for €19. A 200-gram beef fillet costs €21, the 250-gram entrecôte is €20, and a chicken breast fillet is €12. The menu also offers recommendations for side dishes and drinks to accompany each steak and meat dish. For example, they recommend Protwein pear with blue cheese (€2.50) with the entrecôte. Since we were ordering burgers and wanted to be able to judge the quality of the meat, we were served a sliced piece of Wagyu beef with homemade red wine sauce during our test. A definite thumbs up! If you appreciate truly excellent meat, the Wagyu beef alone makes a visit to the Drunken Cow Bar worthwhile. With any meat dish, you can choose one of the listed side dishes from the menu (e.g., sweet potato fries or truffled mashed potatoes for an average of €4).

It was great!
Now, let's talk about the burgers. One thing to note beforehand: The Drunken Cow Bar is part of the legendary... Burger shop Ca Ba Lu In Lehel. Apart from the preparation of the regional beef, the burgers taste quite similar to those at Ca Ba Lu and are therefore, in my opinion, absolutely top-notch. The meat is freshly ground and seasoned daily before being grilled on a lava stone grill. The result is meat in the form of burger toppings or steaks that are simply divine. Furthermore, they prioritize regional sourcing for most of the ingredients, such as the beef.
Our selection
My companion and I each chose one of the many different burgers. I opted for the vegetarian burger with a double veggie patty, jalapeños, and cheddar cheese for €12.50. Each burger can be ordered with either 150 grams or 250 grams of meat (in my case, two veggie patties instead of one). My companion, being quite hungry, chose the 250-gram BBQ burger with jalapeños, fried onions, cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce for €14.50. Before the burgers arrived, we were treated to a delicious amuse-bouche: a homemade carrot, orange, and ginger soup served in a glass. We were both very impressed with both the soup and the burgers, but based on our previous experience at Ca Ba Lu, we were expecting something similar. 🙂 The meat was excellent in every respect – quality, texture, appearance, quantity, and, of course, taste. My companion ordered the burger with gluten-free bread as a trial, which I really appreciated, as that's not yet a common option in Munich, especially for burgers. Here you can even choose between three different types of buns, or even order a burger without a bun. For sides, we ordered the truffled mashed potatoes (a must-try!) and the sweet potato fries (also worth trying!). In my opinion, the truffled mashed potatoes alone are worth a visit ;-), but definitely save room for dessert! We tried two: a wonderful chocolate cake with a soft center and vanilla ice cream, and a chocolate mousse topped with homemade red berry compote. As you can see... we were feeling quite stuffed. 🙂 I can wholeheartedly recommend both, including the burgers and sides.

The bar: Exceptional cocktail creations
To drink, we had tap water (0.25l/€2.50) and a rhubarb spritzer (0.4l/€4.00), as well as a glass of white wine (Welschriesling | 0.2l/€6.50 | Haider Burgenland) – to start with… But things got much more interesting when it came to drinks. The real highlight is the fantastic bar and its menu. The drinks are legendary. So, we couldn't resist trying a recommended and creative house concoction from the menu: the "Chili Blossom" cocktail with chili-infused Finlandia Vodka (a chili vodka), Triple Sec, elderflower liqueur, lime, and mango (€8.50). If you like a bit of spice, order it. It tastes wonderfully of mango and chili. The menu offers many such creations. Here, in addition to the consistently high quality of the food, great care is taken with the drinks as well, ensuring guests are served only the best and freshest ingredients. Seasonality plays a major role here, too. At the Drunken Cow Bar, you can enjoy a variety of house cocktails (from €8.50), champagne cocktails (€13), long drinks, and highballs, as well as soft drinks, white and red wines, and Caribbean cocktails. Don't miss out on trying at least one of the house cocktails! They also create some fantastic gin concoctions.

Culinary specials are also offered regularly. Sometimes it's a burger with a 24-hour slow-cooked US flank steak, other times a juicy steak with a side dish. Starting in March 2016, lunch menus will also be available Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. You can choose either a burger or a meat dish with a drink from the reduced lunch menu at a special lunch price. The Drunken Cow Bar is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 PM until late. You can order delicious bar food and small snacks until midnight after the kitchen closes; drinks are, of course, available until closing time. The Drunken Cow Bar can also be rented for your private events and functions. Simply speak to one of the friendly waitresses or the bartender, who is also the owner, personally. You'll then have the option of ordering directly from the menu or being served a flying menu. You can be absolutely certain that you will have some brilliant and exceptional selections of cocktails and drinks available.
My personal conclusion
If you love burgers and/or steaks, you've come to the right place. And if you also enjoy unusual drinks, you're in paradise. 🙂 Whether you're looking for a relaxed burger get-together, a chic business lunch with steak, champagne, and more, or a fun girls' night out with a variety of unique drinks – everyone will find their perfect spot at the Drunken Cow Bar & Grill. It's less of a burger joint and more of a bar with a restaurant, offering top-notch steaks, burgers, appetizers, and much more. I felt very comfortable and will definitely be back. I also appreciate that they happily recommend the perfect drink to accompany any dish upon request, and the service is truly excellent and attentive. Card payments are accepted, and I recommend making a reservation. If you're in a hurry, you can also take all the burgers to go. Enjoy!.
