Fish dinner at the Westend Factory – Announcement: „Willi’s Good Friday Fish“ – On Friday, March 30, 2018, "Willi's Good Friday Fish" will take place at the Westend Factory in Munich to celebrate Good Friday. I've visited this restaurant, which focuses on fish and meat as well as regional products, many times and have been a big fan of its ambiance, concept, and the quality of its food since it first opened. They regularly host seasonal events, and the steak and fish restaurant has come up with something special for Easter as well. If you're wondering who Willi is, take a look at the logo (on the right). That's the Wolpertinger, or rather, the mascot and trademark of the Westend Factory, named Willi.

Willis' Good Friday Fish – What can you expect?

Quite simply: there will be fish. Good fish, from the Munich region, more precisely from Lake Starnberg and the Isar River. Starting at €25 per person, you can order fish from the Westend Factory's menu on Good Friday. There isn't a separate fish menu, but that's not necessary, as you can enjoy top-quality fish at the Factory year-round. So, what's on offer? If you're a couple, you can choose from a delicious salmon trout from the Aumühle fish farm in the Isar Valley (for €44 for two people) or fresh char from Lake Starnberg (from the Andrä family) for €26. You can select side dishes or, of course, appetizers beforehand (for example, "smoked fish, root vegetable broth, parsley oil, and dill" or "24-hour braised pork belly, egg yolk, beef marrow, and amaranth" for €10 each). If you're vegetarian and not flexitarian, you can of course join us at the table and order, for example, the pumpkin casserole with pumpkin seeds, mountain cheese, and a side salad (for €14). For a sweet finish, you could choose from options like "blueberry dumplings with Andechs hay milk," "chocolate cake with beetroot and raspberries," or "cheese from the Tölz cheese shop" (from €7).

What lies behind Good Friday

Good Friday, which follows Maundy Thursday, is the Friday before Easter and precedes Holy Saturday. It marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum. Also known as "Silent Friday" or even "High Friday," it is considered a strict day of fasting and abstinence. While not one of the most important holidays for Christians, it calls for abstinence. This means that meat (for Catholics) should be avoided. However, since fish is not subject to the abstinence rule, one can indulge in fish and other delicacies on Good Friday. The tradition of "Good Friday = fish" is now one of the best-known Easter customs. And then comes the Easter egg hunt! 😉
