Hilton Brunch at the Charles Lindberg Gourmet Restaurant at the airport The Tasty Tour at Munich Airport continues with stop number 12. This was the Hilton Hotel, specifically the Sunday brunch at the hotel's Charles Lindbergh Restaurant. I'd been looking forward to this brunch for a while, since a) I enjoy brunch and it's a great way to start my Sunday, and b) I already knew that the Hilton serves some pretty fine food. 🙂 I wasn't disappointed and, as usual, I'll tell you all about it.
The Hilton Munich Airport is easily reachable from the MAC Forum within a one- or two-minute walk. Before entering the chic restaurant, you first pass through the inviting Nightflight Bar with its numerous seats in the covered lobby. Red leather armchairs are arranged in comfortable groups, there's a substantial bar, and fresh flowers and plants are everywhere. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to linger there during my recent visit, as the extensive brunch buffet was calling me and my companion, but I'll definitely stop by for a drink sometime. So, now back to the main point.
Hilton Brunch at the Charles Lindbergh – what to expect
Brunch costs €46 per person, with children aged 7 to 12 paying €23. That might sound like a lot, and it's certainly not a bargain, but – as I now know from my experience – it's quite reasonable overall. Firstly, because the service is top-notch, and secondly, because the buffet leaves nothing to be desired. In addition to the buffet, sparkling wine is included in the price and is refilled throughout your visit. You can also help yourself to fresh juices and various types of tea at the buffet. Water, coffee, and other hot drinks must be ordered and paid for separately.
What makes this different from many brunch buffets is that the breakfast and main course buffet is presented right from the start. In other words, the main courses aren't added to the buffet at a certain time, but are available for guests from the very beginning. This might be common for many, but having experienced so many brunches, I've noticed that it's always handled differently: at the Hilton, you queue at the buffet, as it's only accessible from one side. So, if you want to get to the buffet right from the start (from 11:30 am), you'll need a little patience in line until your first scrambled egg, fried egg, or main course arrives on your plate. On my second visit, things moved much more smoothly, and there was less of a crowd.
Now to the Buffet in detail. It's extensive, well-organized, plentiful, and beautifully presented. Besides various fresh breads, pretzels, rolls, croissants, and the like, you can expect antipasti, cold cuts, ham and cheese, muesli, Parma ham, fresh salmon and fish, various salads, egg dishes, as well as main courses (e.g., rice, broccoli, cauliflower gratin, various meats, spaetzle, soups, Brussels sprouts, etc.) and much more. My companion and I sampled our way through the entire buffet, and we didn't even stop at the small desserts in glasses (e.g., crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, kiwi mousse, hazelnut mousse, panna cotta, white chocolate mousse, trio of jellies), the mini cream puffs, mini pancakes, cakes and muffins, or the enormous chocolate fountain. Everything is fresh and attractively presented, and as is often the case with brunch – even with a full stomach, you can't stop eating. I was particularly impressed that the buffet was constantly replenished until the very end (2:30 pm). Whether it was the high-quality Parma ham, the salads, the main courses, or the desserts, you certainly won't run out of anything or be late at the Hilton. I highly recommend coming with a big appetite, as there's a huge selection. Also available are freshly made crêpes, which can be prepared with your choice of fillings at a separate station. There's also an ice cream station with a variety of flavors. They really have everything you could want. They also regularly offer special dishes. During my visit, for example, it was a Greek stir-fry. So you can look forward to plenty of variety.
Origin of ingredients and selection of products
The ingredients for all dishes are predominantly regional. Anything that can be sourced from the immediate vicinity is, of course, sourced from there – always of high quality. Fruit and vegetables, for example, come from Halbergmoos; bread, rolls, and pretzels from the organic bakery Maurer; and the meat is primarily from Bavaria. I also particularly enjoyed the "live egg station." It's always nice to see a bit of what goes on behind the scenes, and your chosen egg dish is prepared right before your eyes. It's also worth mentioning that the buffet varies depending on the occasion. On Advent Sundays, for example, different main courses and desserts – such as goose, duck, and other roasted meats, or gingerbread and cookies – will be available. Emphasis is placed on a seasonal selection of dishes.
The ambience
Now, let's talk about the ambiance: First off, the Hilton, specifically the restaurant area, will be undergoing renovations in the middle of next year. Brunch will continue to be offered every Sunday, but there will be some changes. Currently, guests dine at elegantly set tables adorned with fresh flowers and seated on upholstered benches and chairs. The spacious dining area features carpeting, normally seats 180 people, and benefits from plenty of natural light thanks to its glass facade. When it's particularly busy or for special occasions that draw larger crowds, an additional 100 people can be accommodated in a separate area. I found it cozy and appealing that, despite the room's size, it felt like dining in a private, separate space. Incidentally, the pianist sits right by the buffet, playing well-known pieces by Ludovico Einaudi and others. The atmosphere is definitely pleasant.
Key facts and further information
Brunch is served year-round; there's no summer break. The Hilton's kitchen team comprises over 40 people, and the service staff is always well-trained and attentive, depending on occupancy. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season like Christmas. (Phone: +49 89 97 82 0). Currently, there are still some spots available for the Advent brunches. Since I had the opportunity to speak with the restaurant managers and the kitchen team, I'd like to highlight two other Hilton attractions. One is the general breakfast, offered daily until 10:30 am and open to non-hotel guests. This breakfast – which I haven't yet experienced – is said to be quite special and distinct from other Hilton breakfast offerings. For example, there's a different "fruit of the month," which is then used to create a variety of breakfast specials, and so on. I'll check it out and let you know what I think.
The second culinary highlight is likely the "Dinner for Two" at the Charles Lindbergh / Hilton Airport. There, a seasonal three-course menu is offered in the evening, including a daily aperitif and paired wines (0.1l glasses per person) with each course. Including tea, water, and coffee/tea, the dinner, served in a relaxed atmosphere, costs €109 for two people. That works out to just over €50 per person for three fantastic courses. (Available Sunday through Thursday from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.) It's also convenient that, as usual, you can park for three hours free of charge in parking garages P20 and P26 when visiting the Hilton Airport or Charles Lindbergh. Your parking ticket will be stamped on-site.
Personal conclusion
I can highly recommend a visit. The buffet is plentiful and appealing, the ingredients fresh and delicious. At €46 per person or €23 per child, you naturally expect a flawless experience. The Hilton delivers just that. The only, but forgivable, drawback: my pretzel was unfortunately a bit too hard, but I quickly found an alternative and must have just picked a bad one. The service is impeccably trained and attentive. Wearing white cloth gloves and always keeping a watchful eye, they remain discreetly in the background yet are always available. The variety of the buffet is wonderful.
