KREILLER´S – Café in Berg am Laim

One of the restaurants I've visited most often is Kreiller's in Berg-am-Laim, Munich. It's not far from another restaurant I frequent. Manu's. It can be reached by public transport via the U2 line – Josephsburg station.

I used to go there so often that people asked me if I didn't have a living room, and the waiters even greeted me personally with a handshake. – It was really worth it, though. These days I go less often, or rather, I haven't gone at all for a while, because they've raised the prices quite a bit and, in my opinion, they've tried to turn Kreillers into a "fancy" place. But judging by the decor, the size (quite large, spread over two or three floors), and the ambiance, it's not like that at all. The food is truly excellent, and out of my roughly 60 visits, I've only had something that wasn't to my liking once or twice at most.

There's now a second Kreillers in Marktschwaben, which I've never visited. This is partly why they've redesigned the menus (it felt like there were three or four new menus during my time at Kreillers) and raised the prices again. At first, pasta, salad, or even pike-perch were still reasonably priced for Munich – now I can eat for the same price anywhere in the city center. It's impossible to get away with spending less than €40 for two people, including a tip, drinks, and maybe a cappuccino or a slice of cake afterward.

As mentioned, Kreiller's food is highly recommended and truly delicious. For about a year or two, they've also had a separate pizza corner in the entrance area where you can order a variety of fresh pizzas. They're very tasty, with a crust that's neither too thick nor too thin. The vegetarian sandwich (a good example of the price increase – it used to be €9.50 and is now €11.90) is highly recommended. Side dishes can be swapped and ordered individually.

The waiters are very nice and friendly. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant. It's somewhat inconspicuous, located above a Netto supermarket, and looks rather uninviting and shabby from the outside – but it's open from Monday to Sunday and always packed. Not really suitable for quiet evenings and conversations. It's also nice for birthday parties or similar events.

Breakfast at Kreillers is also very tasty – but over the years it has become increasingly "sparing" in its presentation on the plate, the jam dishes have become smaller and fewer, the cheese less so, and the price has also increased – and without reason, I find this rather inappropriate.
