Le Florida was recommended to me a while ago by my friend, and so I finally managed to visit it recently with a companion for a lovely dinner with wine and Hugo, as well as delicious salads in a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is located on Georgenstraße in Schwabing, next to the relatively well-known Sobi Cocoa (article coming soon!). It's easily accessible by bus or tram (Nordendstraße stop) and is right on the corner – hard to miss. My companion and I both left the restaurant very satisfied and full – and €25 poorer each.
Immediately upon entering, a friendly woman at the small counter next to the main bar in the relatively L-shaped restaurant greeted us and asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, so we were free to choose from the approximately 25-30 tables. Many of the tables inside were empty, and several outside were also unoccupied. We opted for a cozy table for two near the entrance with a view of the bar. The restaurant is very dark, almost too dark, and I could only see my food when I took a picture with the flash for you and this article. 🙂 So, the restaurant—at least once it's dark outside—has more of a lounge feel and transforms into more of a bar once the daylight disappears. Nevertheless, I found it very cozy, with its dark banquettes and tables, numerous lamps, pictures on the walls, and the curved "Le Florida" lettering.
As soon as we were seated, a friendly young man presented us with the menus, and thanks to the candlelight on the table, we were able to read some of them. The menu is quite varied and offers a few surprises for vegetarians. For example, in addition to turkey and beef tam tam, you can also order a vegetarian tam tam with various vegetables, pineapple, baked turmeric balls in coconut milk sauce, and various spices (for €11.80). There are also two great vegetarian salads, which my companion and I ordered. I ordered the "Spaceballs" salad with baked turmeric balls, grilled zucchini, mango chutney, soy peanuts, tomatoes, cucumber, and orange-balsamic dressing for €13.80, and the "Caprino" salad with grilled goat cheese with honey, herb olives, a nut mix, roasted zucchini, apples, and cranberries on a bed of mixed greens with cucumber, carrots, crispy breadsticks, and a raspberry-sour cream dressing for €14.80. The menu also features "Le Florida Grill Classics" like steak and burgers – including a vegetarian option with zucchini, chickpeas, and cheese, served with lettuce, tomato, and dips for €7.80. There's definitely something delicious for everyone. The soups, appetizers, and pasta dishes also sounded very appealing. Pasta fans can look forward to dishes such as spaghetti with red pesto (vegetarian), penne chorizo with Spanish salami or casareccia with chanterelles in cream sauce (vegetarian) for €8.80 each.
The salads we ordered were delicious and beautifully presented. Both portions were very generous, so the price was fair. The turmeric balls on my salad were quite unusual and spicy, yet delicious, and I would definitely order the salad again. My companion's hearty goat cheese salad was also very tasty, fresh, and a generous portion. You can order both of these salads without hesitation. The drinks menu offers a wide selection of cocktails, long drinks, non-alcoholic beverages, and coffee drinks. My companion and I opted for the classics: a Hugo (and then another one) for €5 and a glass of white wine (Pinot Gris – 0.2l/€6.20). The Hugo was very sweet (borderline too sweet, but quite tasty after stirring), and we only received a straw after asking for one – which wasn't a problem in this case, as the service was very attentive and friendly. It took a while before a member of the service staff noticed us when we wanted to pay.
During our visit, a few more tables were occupied, but it never felt crowded. I would recommend making a reservation for the weekend. As mentioned, the ambiance is quite dark, but still cozy. It's open daily from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM, and I would definitely recommend a visit. Because it's rather dim, Le Florida is, in my opinion, ideal for a relaxed evening with cocktails and a delicious meal, but less so for a formal Sunday dinner with the family. 😉 However, Le Florida always serves roast on Sundays, and all fans of the German crime drama "Tatort" can rejoice, as it's broadcast every Sunday at 8:15 PM (reservations recommended!). Card payments are also accepted.
I'll be back: Yes. Definitely for delicious food in a pleasant atmosphere.
