New in the refrigerated section: Weihenstephan's cream pudding | As you know, I'm not a huge fan of winter, at least not when it comes to looking out the window at the cold, wet ground. However, my fondness for the cold days changes drastically when I take a look in my pantry and refrigerator. Suddenly, the colder months become much more appealing, as they also bring a host of delicious treats and delicacies to the supermarket shelves. A prime example, and a brand-new addition to the refrigerated aisles, is the new cream pudding from Weihenstephan. This sweet dessert, meant to be eaten with a spoon, is brand new and has only been available since October 2021 in four different varieties. I immediately bought four different versions of this latest dessert creation from the traditional dairy Weihenstephan to take home.

Who would like to try it?

Let's be honest, we all love pudding, right? – For me, at least, a creamy pudding was simply part of a perfect day off when I was a child. Perhaps that's why I still associate pudding with the feeling of "coming home" and "enjoying cozy hours." In other words: a pudding instantly makes me happy. – Do you feel the same way? 🙂 So I'm all the more delighted that the Weihenstephan dairy has launched four new varieties of cream pudding, bringing back some of my childhood memories.

Since my love for delicious pudding has obviously endured to this day, I had the chance to try all four varieties of the new dessert – perfect for the current autumn season and cozy days at home. So I got to try "Chocolate," "Vanilla," "Double Chocolate," and "Double Coffee.".

Classic and good – vanilla cream pudding.

For those who prefer a classic approach and love pure indulgence, the "Chocolate" and/or "Vanilla" varieties are the perfect choice – both topped with a creamy and light whipped cream – just as you'd expect from a good pudding. If you're looking for something a little different in your pudding, the "Double Choc" and "Double Coffee" varieties are sure to offer new taste sensations. With "Double Choc," the name says it all: the chocolate pudding isn't topped with regular cream, but with a layer of fluffy chocolate whipped cream – double the chocolate indulgence. Prefer something a little more bitter? Then you'll love "Double Coffee." In this variety, the cream topping is replaced with a delicate coffee-infused cream. A truly special and skillful combination, in my opinion, because almost everyone knows the combination of "chocolate cake with a cup of coffee" – that's roughly what you can imagine the delicious pudding with cream to be, only in a creamier version, soft and not quite so sweet.

Food makes you happy.

Mmm! Now for a taste test. – My personal test

I tell you, I was so happy when I got home after a stressful day and knew: four new friends were waiting for me in my fridge! For me, getting to know something new always means comparing it to each other. Since both the flavor and the whipped cream topping of the puddings differed in taste, I immediately opened all four containers and tried a spoonful of each.

For me, it started with the classics, and I tried the vanilla pudding first. Delicious! You know that feeling when a pudding is just overly sweet and tastes totally artificially vanilla-y? – That's not the case here at all. Instead, the pudding is exactly as you'd want it: creamy, velvety vanilla, not too sweet, with the perfect ratio of pudding to cream, and simply a real comfort food. Next up was the second classic: chocolate. Personally, I'm not a huge chocolate fan, even though women are often said to be the opposite. So I was all the more surprised that I really liked the pure chocolate pudding with cream and would even rank it higher than vanilla. This is certainly also due to the fact that the chocolate version isn't too sweet and is super creamy. The chocolate spreads pleasantly softly and mildly in the mouth. After that, I moved on to the double varieties, both a "must-have" for true chocolate and coffee lovers, respectively. I actually like both very much because the special cream topping offers a nice change and new taste experiences. Personally, I even liked the coffee version better than the "Double Choc".

Incidentally, although it's not crucial for the taste: Weihenstephan's new cream puddings come in transparent cups. This means you can see the contents, including the whipped cream topping, right from the outside. Personally, I find it tastes even better that way, because the enjoyment begins visually, even before you open the cup.

On my next shopping trip, I'll definitely pick up both the classic flavors and the "Double Coffee." My "pudding taster," on the other hand, preferred both the vanilla and double chocolate and promptly spooned up the rest. Tastes differ, and we can be glad that there are four different varieties, so there's something for everyone.
