Advance notice: Wine Dinner February 2019 – Menu at Hochreiter's Steirer am Markt – New year, new luck! This also applies to the popular Weinmahleins event series – presented by Mastercard Priceless Munich (from the city magazine "In München"), which will host seven events in 2019. The concept continues as it did last year: different restaurants will offer four- or five-course menus paired with exciting wines, which will be presented by the winemaker himself on the evening of the event. Places at every Weinmahleins event fill up quickly – no wonder, as guests can expect a wonderful evening for, in this case, just 89 euros. The first Weinmahleins event of 2019 will take place on Friday, February 22nd. I've done some research for you.
Wine tasting February 2019: Hochreiter's Styrian wine at the market
The first wine-themed dinner in February 2019 will take place at Hochreiter's Steirer am Markt restaurant for all booking guests. A five-course Alpine menu will be served, paired with complementary wines. The wines come from the Polz winery in Styria and will be presented on-site by top winemaker Walter Polz himself, thus contributing significantly to the Austrian winemaker's evening at Hochreiter's Steirer am Markt. The Polz family – Erich, Christoph, and Walter Polz – cultivate the best vineyards in the Styria region – including the single vineyards Grassnitzberg and Theresienhöhe – and offer exclusively high-quality wines (including Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, and Morillon, as well as Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir). On the evening of February 22nd, Walter Polz, together with Munich wine icon Sigrid Brantl and host Werner Hochreiter, will guide the guests through the evening and share his knowledge of wine and culinary arts.
The culinary experience promises to be equally exciting. Head chef Boris Bozic and manager Martin Ruzevic have devised something truly special for this evening. A five-course menu awaits, featuring refined interpretations of the Alpine cuisine offered at the restaurant. The evening begins with a small amuse-bouche followed by the first course: pumpkin cream soup with croutons and pumpkin seed oil cream. Sounds delicious! The second course—a terrine of fine fish with beluga lentils on a tomato vinaigrette—is followed by the third course: fried chicken on a potato, cucumber, and radish salad. The evening concludes with macarons filled with cranberry and apple strudel, and finally, duck breast with Duchess potatoes and Romanesco broccoli will be served.

High-quality Alpine cuisine at Steirer am Markt
Meet Hochreiter's Styrians at the market
A glance at the restaurant hosting the first wine tasting of 2019 reveals heavy wooden beams, pop art elements, an antique carpenter's table in the entrance area next to the integrated bar, glass pendant lights, and many other details that combine to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is run by the Hochleitner family, who also manage the adjacent, central beer garden. About five years ago, after seven months of renovations, the inn was transformed into a wine bar serving Bavarian-Alpine cuisine. The family boasts decades of experience in the restaurant industry and has been a fixture at Munich's Oktoberfest for over 45 years. The wine list regularly features around 52 bottled wines from Austria, Germany, and Italy, as well as a rotating selection of daily wines every two weeks. Those dining at Hochreiter's Steirer am Markt outside of our event series can expect seasonal dishes as well as delicacies such as mushroom risotto, boiled beef, Wiener Schnitzel, or a light goat cheese salad. Those with a sweet tooth can order Kaiserschmarrn.
