Currently, nearly eight million people in Germany are vegetarian – and the trend is rising! Naturally, the proportion of vegetarians and vegans in individual offices and companies is also increasing. So, vegetarians, listen up! Although… actually, everyone should listen up! Since February 2015, there's been "frischfutter" – a lifesaver for all hungry lunchtime workers in Munich offices. As the name suggests, frischfutter provides you and your colleagues with fresh, exclusively vegetarian, and freshly prepared food – delivered right to your office door.

As I've mentioned before, almost everyone knows the problem of not being able to find the right, healthy food in the stressful daily grind of work and office life. It has to be quick, it shouldn't be too expensive, and going far from the office is out of the question because there's often so little time. That's when the quick burger, the ordered pizza, or unhealthy fast food often tempts us. Thanks to frischfutter, that's now a thing of the past – and especially in this case, for the vegetarians among you. In short: delivery of delicious, healthy lunches directly to Munich offices.

Frischfutter once again demonstrates what has become increasingly clear lately: a vegetarian diet is entirely possible without sacrificing quality and is growing in popularity. The selection is endless, and even for (still) 😉 meat-eaters, Frischfutter and vegetarian cuisine offer the perfect alternative. Healthy, balanced food is paramount here. Frischfutter recipes are selected for their nutritional balance, and freshly purchased vegetables are used daily to provide essential minerals and nutrients. The selection is also fantastic.

As always, I tried the dishes before writing a detailed review for you. Let me just say upfront: I've rarely met such a nice and friendly team. In this case, it's Franz and Julia, who have long shared a passion for healthy and vegetarian cooking. This led to the Frischfutter project idea in early 2014, simply out of the desire to be able to eat healthily all day long, especially during the often short and hectic lunchtime. So last week, I visited the Frischfutter website and checked out their current, weekly changing menu. Each week, they offer two different salads, two hot dishes, snacks, sweets, and smoothies. Choosing wasn't easy, especially since everything is vegetarian and looks so good. 🙂

In the end, I went for a "Rustico Baguette" (€4.50) – a whole-wheat baguette with grilled eggplant and zucchini, black olives, feta cheese, and arugula, as well as tomato and walnut pesto; an organic rye roll for 90 cents (free with every salad) – along with two different kinds of hummus – classic and with black olives for €2.90 and €3.50 respectively. (You absolutely must order the hummus. It's so delicious!) I also ordered a hot main course – in my case, a delicious buckwheat risotto. The portions are very generous and filling, averaging around €7.50. The risotto was topped with cheese, and the delicious aroma wafted out as soon as I opened the biodegradable packaging. I personally added a little more salt and spices, but I always prefer to decide that myself, because once it's oversalted, it's oversalted. The portion was very generous.

Of course, I couldn't resist the sweets afterwards and ordered the strawberry-flavored "Fruit Yogurt" (€3.50). They also have mango – I'll order that next time. A very healthy snack, yet still sweet enough to finish off the meal. And because I needed to quench my thirst, I also ordered a Baola – Mango (available in various flavors for €1.80). You might already know the brand. Baola is a Fairtrade soft drink, which you can order from frischfutter in plain, mango, cherry, or guarana flavors. Very fruity and refreshing, but much lighter than a sweet juice. They also have peanut brownie energy balls as a snack and sweets afterwards (or in between). You absolutely have to check out their online shop – I'd be surprised if you didn't immediately get a craving.

The ordering process: simple – straightforward – online

So…now for the dry part ;-)… Here's how it works: You go online, choose what you and your colleagues like, and order your food via the online shop for a pre-arranged day. The minimum order is ten main courses per week. Everyone has colleagues, everyone gets hungry, and ten portions are easy to accumulate – especially when you look at the shop, everyone will want some. 😉 Orders can be placed until 6:00 PM the day before, and delivery takes place at the agreed lunchtime between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in thermal boxes with heating plates – so you don't even need a microwave or oven to reheat it. The pre-order system makes it easier for the fresh food team to plan, and overproduction – which would lead to food waste – is clearly avoided. The ingredients are carefully selected to be alkaline – preventing acid overproduction in the body and avoiding any post-meal discomfort. The same attention is paid to organic quality for fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as for all ingredients. Everything is purchased fresh daily and processed accordingly.

Until now, deliveries were limited to a specific industrial park in Munich. However, the frischfutter team has now launched the "come together" initiative. This gives all Munich offices the opportunity to order regularly (at least one order per week with at least 10 main courses) from frischfutter, ensuring a consistently fresh, convenient, and healthy diet and securing a 10% discount on their orders. frischfutter is also a great option if you know you have long meetings ahead and won't be out of the office for a while.
