Jochen Schweizer Arena in Taufkirchen with a catering concept I recently discovered that hard hats and rubber boots really suit me, because I was on the construction site of the Jochen Schweizer Arena in Taufkirchen. And currently, and at the press event that took place there, this is the only way to enter the site. It was one of those events I'd been looking forward to for a long time. Why? Firstly, because the aforementioned Jochen Schweizer Arena in the south of Munich opens in March 2017, and secondly, because for the first time in over 25 years of successful company history, Jochen Schweizer will be introducing a catering concept developed specifically for the arena. And that's where I come in….

Doesn't that look great?

The catering concept in the Jochen Schweizer Arena

Jochen Schweizer is primarily known, and by most people "only," for its small gift boxes, available in numerous variations, which can be purchased in various shops, redeemed personally, or given as ideal gifts. They offer a wide range of options, covering virtually every aspect of relaxation, adrenaline, and adventure. For those seeking a more indulgent experience, the Jochen Schweizer Arena in Taufkirchen will open in mid-March 2017. I'm introducing it to you now because I'll be posting detailed information about the restaurant on my website after its opening in March.

First, let's talk about the culinary offerings: A unique gastronomic concept for the Jochen Schweizer Arena was meticulously developed over a long period. Supporting this effort were gastronomy expert and Food & Beverage Director Veit Reisberger, as well as the new arena's head chef, Stefan Meindl. The process involved analysis, cooking, tasting, sampling, and refinement. Now it's official: As a visitor to the arena, you can expect modern and innovative crossover cuisine. Its hallmark: high-quality ingredients combined with extensive expertise in preparation. The menu will be diverse, creative, high-quality, and with a regional focus. Jochen Schweizer himself, after I inquired, put it this way: "With our first in-house restaurant, we are combining the finest regional ingredients, the best chefs, and the best service staff to create a truly unique experience." And so, the arena's service staff is deliberately deployed in a casual, relaxed, yet professional manner. The aim is to create a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere throughout the arena – including in the catering area. Breakfast, business lunch, lunch, coffee and cake, and of course, dinner will be served. Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, or meat-eater doesn't matter – everyone will be happy at the arena. Oh, and by the way… if you'd rather try your hand at cooking, just take a look at the diverse range of cooking classes offered at the arena.

How and where will food be served, and who will be cooking in the arena?

Relaxed, healthy, high-quality, and varied. But the atmosphere while eating and the surrounding experience also contribute to the overall experience. While you eat, you not only enjoy good food but also an unobstructed view of the active flyers, surfers, climbers, and athletes in the arena – whether on the surf wave up to 1.40 meters high, in the air tunnel reaching speeds of up to 285 km/h, or in the adjacent, spacious outdoor area. Whether you're actively participating and just want to take a short lunch break or have come simply to watch: it's worth it! How do I know? At the aforementioned event – you remember my rubber boots – I had the opportunity to sample some small bites from head chef Stefan Meindl. Although these were, of course, served on a construction site, and the ambiance wasn't exactly ideal, I lost myself from the very first bite and tried the entire range. You can really look forward to March 2017! I even chatted with Stefan Meindl for a bit while I ate. He learned to cook in Straubing, conjured up culinary delights at Käfer, Haberl Gastronomie, and in various Michelin-starred restaurants. Now he's taking over as the new head chef at the Jochen Schweizer Arena. During our conversation, I learned again that the arena's catering team places great importance on collaborating with sustainably producing partners from the region. (You'll hear more about this from me soon...).

The food and beverage area is divided into the main indoor restaurant and various dining areas within the surf and paragliding zones. Here, you can dine in an atmosphere perfectly suited to the activity area. Whether it's the relaxed beach boxes by the surf wave, the inviting outdoor area, or a spot in the cozy air boxes by the wind tunnel, there's something for everyone. So don't worry: you definitely won't miss your friends' surf session, climbing adventure, or paragliding flight just because you're enjoying a meal. It's easy to combine the two. The culinary offerings are not only diverse for spontaneous visits but also incredibly versatile in terms of event planning: formal dinners for 260 people, corporate events for 1,200 hungry guests, or relaxed parties in the serviced outdoor area? – All of this is no problem for the Arena team.

A visit to the Jochen Schweizer Arena offers you comprehensive service: culinary with its excellent cuisine, physical with its various sports offerings, and mentally, because you will simply gather a wealth of new impressions during your visit.

Full? – No reason to leave…

Stop, stop, stop! A full stomach, or even a lack of appetite, is no reason to leave immediately or not come at all. Because, of course, the food is only one part of what's on offer. I've already touched on it a bit: wind tunnel, surf wave, climbing facilities, and plenty of space for sports, relaxation, and adventure. A form of active (and delicious) leisure activity, so to speak, that's never been seen before in Munich. The wind tunnel, for example, is considered the most modern vertical wind tunnel facility in the world. Every "student pilot" is accompanied by an instructor and can thus fly under ideal training conditions – even from the age of four. Those who prefer to stay wet can learn to surf here from the age of eight, using a variable support bar and stepless control – with a surf instructor if desired. In addition, there's a beach atmosphere with a bar, changing rooms, and showers. A refreshing breeze awaits you in the outdoor climbing park, which offers three levels and varying degrees of difficulty: Skytrail, zipline course, and team mission course are all available. Here you can soar over the entire arena grounds and experience much more. I must reluctantly admit: you can have fun even without eating… 😉

Hard facts and what else is to come…

Mark your calendars for March – it's just around the corner! Once the arena is fully operational, you can expect 15,000 m² of space, 300 m² of multifunctional congress, event, and conference areas in six-meter-high rooms, and sports and adventure areas for tons of fun. There's an outdoor area with a high ropes course, the Jochen Schweizer citywave (surf wave), body flying in a wind tunnel, a zipline, a team mission course, a spacious children's playground, and, of course, the wonderful catering area with a show kitchen, various activity stations, and a serviced outdoor area. The arena also includes rooms for seminars, meetings, events, and coaching sessions. Events are catered by the in-house, professional catering team. Simply contact the Jochen Schweizer team for inquiries via [contact information missing in original text]. As mentioned, my report on the catering facilities will be available soon after the opening. If you're a corporate client looking for a venue, you can book the arena in sections or in its entirety, including service, additional amenities, and menus. The arena is also available for private events, birthdays, and other functions. There's really nothing you can't do here. Parking is no problem – parking spaces are available. Entry to the Jochen Schweizer Arena is free. If you're wondering exactly where the arena is located: don't worry – soon, its huge "Jochen Schweizer" lettering will be easily recognizable from the motorway. Simply drive towards IKEA Brunnthal and turn onto Ludwig-Bölkow-Allee. Nothing stands in the way of an eventful and delicious day – you'll hear from me again soon about the latest news from the Jochen Schweizer Arena! 🙂
