Bubbles seafood & wine bar at Munich Airport Sushi, wraps, baked potatoes, filled bagels, salads, breakfast, and plenty of red wine, white wine, and champagne. This is what's on offer at the Bubbles Bar located at Munich Airport, which I visited as the 14th stop on my "Bianca's Tasty Tour." There, my companion and I indulged in a delicious and wonderful lunch. Now I'd like to tell you all about it.
What can you expect at Bubbles seafood & winebar?
Anyone wanting to eat at the Bubbles Bar at Munich Airport unfortunately needs to have a flight either before or after; otherwise, you won't be able to access this area. However, once you arrive at Gate L, the bar, with its striking design and countless bottles of wine and champagne displayed on towering shelves, is sure to catch your eye. High above, the words "Bubbles seafood & winebar" are emblazoned in gold lettering. Below, you'll find the aforementioned selection of various red, white, and sparkling wines, as well as champagne. The Bubbles Bar is exceptionally bright, open, and spacious. In front of the glass display, furniture in soft mint and blue tones, numerous seating areas, and lounge sofas are arranged, some offering a wide and unobstructed view of the runway and its aircraft. The bar's highlight: stylish aquariums with real fish, which perfectly complement the bar's theme and enhance the cozy atmosphere.
Food offer and selection
As a guest of the bar, you should first find a comfortable spot at one of the approximately 25 tables, put your food down, and then order directly at the bar. The display offers a wide variety of options, or you can, of course, browse the menu at your table first. They offer breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., as well as freshly prepared sandwiches, wraps, salads, sushi, oysters, seafood platters, and desserts. Regarding the ingredients, Bubbles Bar strives to use regional products as much as possible. The bar's focus is, of course, on fish. So, my companion and I naturally couldn't resist trying the sushi (depending on the daily selection), a filled sesame bagel (with smoked salmon, pepperdew cream, tomato, cucumber, and lettuce for €6.90), and two different marinated salads (in 100-gram portions from €4.90 to €8.90). We ordered the tuna salad (€6.90) and the couscous salad (€5.90) – both with vegetables. Besides the sushi, bagel, and salad, we also had a freshly squeezed orange juice, a wrap with chicken curry salad, and a blueberry muffin to share. We had everything served at once – if only for a nice photo – and nothing could possibly get cold. If you prefer a hot meal, you should definitely order the fish platter – a new addition to the menu – which changes regularly and is a very reasonable €7.90, or one of the many different baked potatoes (from €6.90) in various styles.
Before we get to the review, here are a few more details about the menu. Recently, they've added a "Wake Up Special" breakfast (butter croissant, jam and butter, a hot drink, and a 0.2l freshly squeezed orange juice for €9.90), which is offered alongside maxi pretzels, (filled) croissants, sandwiches, and other items starting at 7:00 a.m. As part of their oyster promotion, you can also order three oysters and a glass of champagne (for €19.90). Oysters are also available individually in packages of three, six, or nine, priced between €14.90 and €34.90, without champagne. Seafood platters are also available, and true fish lovers should definitely try the salmon duet with honey mustard sauce (€14.90). Otherwise, tempting options include red herring salad, wakame seaweed salad, seafood salad, brook trout caviar with blinis and crème fraîche, or sandwiches and bread with pesto, mozzarella, and tomato, as well as marinated shrimp and salad. You can fill up here for well under €10 – so everything is definitely affordable. Only the caviar is a bit more expensive (€119 for 50 grams of Malossol caviar), but that's something you can decide for yourself. Also new is the appetizer platter with seven different delicacies or gourmet salads (e.g., herring or crab salad) for €12.90, as well as the king prawns with dill cream (€11.90).
Food review
So, now back to the moment our small, pre-arranged meal was placed in front of us. Everything was perfectly arranged by one of the friendly staff members at Bubbles Bar, which immediately made me want to start eating. First, though, I had to assess the presentation. The sushi was already prepared and came from the deli counter, as did the chicken curry wrap. What I liked best about the salmon bagel at first glance was that both the fish itself, the salad, and the sauce were very fresh. This is often not the case with filled rolls. I started with one of the two wraps (available individually for €4.90 or two for €8.30) and immediately picked my favorite. Although the wrap contains a lot of (curry) sauce, it's neither too spicy nor messy. Neatly wrapped, generously filled, and with plenty of delicious and fresh chicken, the wrap is very satisfying. Unfortunately, my companion and I had agreed to share everything, so after my half of the chicken wrap, I went for the sesame salmon bagel. It was soft, fresh, and generously topped. There was nothing to complain about, and if you're just looking for a snack, you should definitely order this. Thumbs up for the wrap and bagel, as well as the orange juice and the fresh salads served in small bowls. The tuna salad was the clear winner for me. Superb and fresh, albeit quite spicy. The couscous salad also had a bit of a kick, but wasn't over-seasoned and was a good complement to the first salad. "So, how was the sushi?" some of you might be wondering. It was generally good, but unfortunately served too cold. It had already been prepared in the display case, which was – of course – set quite cold. As someone who's "half Japanese" in the culinary sense 😉, I know that sushi often doesn't taste ideal when served cold. As a result, the rice was unfortunately no longer "fluffy and airy" (…yes, that's possible, even though it naturally needs to be sticky to hold its shape…), but its consistency masked the flavor of the individual fillings – at least that was the case with the larger uramaki. The classic maki and salmon and tuna nigiri were also too cold for sushi, but the fish flavor rightly dominated. The blueberry muffin, which was also shared, was fluffy, soft, and fresh. (Alternatives include fresh cakes or fruit salad). Overall, lunch was definitely a mostly positive experience. Aside from the sushi temperature (rolls between €5.90 and €6.50), there was nothing to complain about.
We left the wine, champagne, and beer behind – largely due to the time of day and the fact that we weren't taking off after our test flight but returning to our office – and opted for water and a fresh orange juice. However, those who prefer a more festive start to their journey or return home after landing can choose from a wide selection of Piper Heidsieck champagnes (from €29 per bottle or €5.90 per 0.1l glass), various long drinks, rums, whiskeys, and more. For caffeine lovers, Italian Kimbo coffee is also available.
Key facts and personal conclusion
Bubbles seafood & winebar is open from 7:00 AM to 9:30 PM, sometimes even an hour earlier depending on the flight schedule. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance while eating. If you appreciate a tidy and clean (yet still cozy) environment, you'll probably feel right at home here. Anyone fascinated by the airport and its air traffic will certainly enjoy eating and watching the action through the glass front. I would definitely eat here again, or even pick up a sandwich, bagel, or wrap to go (one piece for €4.90, two for €8.30). I also want to try the baked potato and the king prawns before my next flight. The friendly service makes it a pleasant place to just sit down for a glass of wine, champagne, or a light snack. So, if you're flying out soon, raise a glass for me and enjoy high-quality seafood at Bubbles Bar.
