Lenbachs Bar & Gallery at the airport – Number 8 on my "Bianca's Tasty Tour" at Munich Airport isn't a typical restaurant, but rather a bar. More precisely, Lenbachs Bar & Gallery in the new departure area of Munich Airport. The bar focuses on a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as a small selection of tapas. The bar deliberately offers a relatively limited food menu and a much more extensive range of drinks. So, I went there to try it out and, together with my companion, enjoyed both the various tapas and two wonderful cocktails.

What awaits you at Lenbachs Bar & Gallery
Before we get into the details of the bar, I would like to point out that Lenbachs Bar & Gallery, similar to the previous review of the nearby [bar/gallery], also has [a specific type of bar/gallery]. Sissi & Franz Eating there is only possible if you are departing from or arriving in this area. Therefore, you must go through security before your visit. After that, nothing stands in the way of a delicious drink and tapas. Every day from 10:00 AM, they offer both small 150-gram portions (for €6) and 250-gram trays (for €8) with delicious ciabatta on the side. There are always five to six freshly prepared tapas to choose from daily: olives wrapped in bacon, prawn tails, prunes wrapped in bacon, artichokes, Parma ham from Italy, and chicken salad. Once you've decided on the size of your portion, you can freely choose from all the tapas on offer. The ingredients are predominantly sourced from the Munich region, so in addition to high quality standards, regionality is also a priority wherever possible.

You'll find out how I liked the tapas and drinks in a moment. But first, let's take a look at what is probably the most important thing in the bar: the drinks menu. It features numerous wines and ports, champagnes, soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas, draft and bottled beers (Königs Pilsener, Erdinger, Hofbräu Helles from €3.90/0.5l), gins (Gordons Dry Gin, The Botanist, Bombay Dry Gin, Bavarka Gin, Monkey 47 from €5.50/4 cl), whiskeys and vodkas, grappas, cognacs and brandies, sherries, and much more. Long drinks (Gin Fizz, Cuba Libre, Green Spider or Kentucky Lemon between €7.20 and €8.50), cocktails with or without alcohol (from €8.50), fine brandies from the Lantenhammer distillery (Williams brandy, hazelnut spirit, apricot brandy, sour cherry brandy, wild raspberry spirit for €6.20 each) and bitters are also served here.

Selection and evaluation of food and drinks
Now then…as mentioned, my companion and I ordered „everything.“ 😉 This was partly to allow us to try both the small and large portions of tapas, and partly to experience the full range of dishes. So we were served a small portion, a larger portion, and a single portion of Parma ham – in case you need a benchmark for exactly „one portion of tapas.“ A picture is worth a thousand words. I've listed the varieties above; the photos speak for themselves and should also demonstrate the quality.
My clear favorite: the house-made chicken salad. So delicious and tender, and perfectly marinated, that the friendly lady on hand was kind enough to bring me a small portion. The Parma ham – yes, really from Parma – was also exquisite, paper-thin, and, paired with the light and airy ciabatta, a delightful snack. Those who enjoy olives will find the ones from Lenbachs Bar, with their embedded almonds, particularly delicious, and won't be able to resist the delectable bacon-wrapped plum either. I can recommend the "Bavarian Proud" (alcoholic) or the "Virgin Caipirinha" (non-alcoholic) with ginger ale, lime, and brown sugar (€8.50) from the menu. A rather sweet and refreshing drink that will leave you wanting more (…preferably on the beach…). The bar's ambiance alone exudes a real holiday anticipation vibe. With such a drink and tapas reminiscent of Spain, the anticipation of immediately boarding the holiday plane or of comfortably ending the holiday on site is guaranteed.

The bar is divided into a spacious bar area with ample seating, a lounge area with comfortable sofas, and separate sections with cozy tables. It has an open and airy design. Plenty of natural light streams into the bar thanks to the building's open layout and high ceilings. The bar itself, with its colorful lighting effects, is clearly the central focal point. The addition of "…& Gallery" refers to the fact that small, illuminated artworks by young artists are displayed on numerous partition walls and dividing walls within the bar. So, you can relax, enjoy delicious food, browse, and be amazed at Lenbachs Bar & Gallery.

Those arriving at Lenbachs Bar & Gallery before 10:00 AM can look forward to a small but delicious breakfast with fresh chocolate croissants and fresh juices. It's also important to know that the bar offers full service depending on how busy it is. This means that if it's not too busy, you can sit at one of the comfortable tables and wait for your friendly server. When the place is buzzing, it's more convenient, and also intended by Lenbachs Bar, for you to come to the stylish bar and place your order there. The bar can accommodate a total of 280 people. Lenbachs Bar & Gallery is open from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM – so as a passenger, you'll definitely be served within your departure or arrival time.
I highly recommend stopping by before or after your holiday. Before boarding your flight, a refreshing cocktail and light tapas will surely heighten your anticipation for your destination. And if you've just returned and the excitement of getting back to everyday life in Munich hasn't quite reached its peak yet – have a nightcap at Lenbachs Bar and ease back into it with a cocktail and tapas.
