The "Olympia" restaurant in Garching near Munich with a sunny beer garden

Restaurant „Olympia“ in Garching near Munich (in the Olympia Hotel) Thanks to my numerous visits to a wide variety of restaurants, I'm delighted to continually discover new culinary highlights and restaurants that some of you might not even know about, or wouldn't immediately think of, when it comes to places with high-quality and exceptional cuisine. One such place is the "Olympia" restaurant within the "Olympia Hotel" in Garching near Munich. Admittedly, you have to know that there's a restaurant located within the grounds of the Olympic shooting range. However, once you've been there, you'll want to return again and again.

The family-run restaurant impresses with both its warm service and creative cuisine – for the past six months under the leadership of the new head chef Piotr, who stands for fresh, seasonal and high-quality creations, always with that certain something on the plate.

Discover the "Olympia" restaurant in the Olympia Hotel

The restaurant is only accessible by car; from Munich, it takes about twenty minutes to reach the grounds of the Olympic shooting range, and you'll find yourself directly in front of the hotel with its integrated restaurant. The facility is the largest civilian shooting range in the world and was built for the 1972 Olympic Games on a former Bundeswehr training ground. I find this fascinating, and it's certainly the reason why the Olympia Hotel and its restaurant, "Olympia," stand alone in a green setting.

To enter the restaurant, you use the hotel's main entrance, which housed Olympic athletes 50 years ago. The hotel has since been renovated, the rooms spruced up, and everything brought up to modern standards. Personally, I appreciate that the restaurant's elongated shape retains a certain 1970s charm. The restaurant's renovation is already on the agenda for the family who run it; until then, you can dine in a cozy atmosphere with plenty of wood, tables adorned with fresh flowers, and a glass wall offering a view of the grounds and the beer garden.

Fresh ingredients from local partners, predominantly organically grown, are used here.

The culinary concept of the "Olympia" restaurant has also undergone a revamp. Head chef Piotr, who has been working there for about six months, has completely redesigned the menu to bring a breath of fresh air to the "Olympia" in the form of high-quality, regionally sourced, and seasonal cuisine. "It's important to me that our guests feel well taken care of, and I want to demonstrate with the dishes on our menu that sustainability, regionality, and quality are just as important to us as variety, individuality, and seasonality on the plate. Together with my kitchen team, we prepare unforgettable culinary experiences for our Olympia guests in the form of modern and reinterpreted creations," says Piotr.

Consequently, the "Olympia" restaurant uses only fresh, locally sourced products from trusted suppliers, preferably organic. The menu changes seasonally and according to availability. In spring and summer, the "Olympia" also boasts a spacious outdoor seating area where you can enjoy food and drinks while soaking up the sunshine.

The „Burrata di Bufala“ shows you that great importance is placed on an attractive presentation.

A look at the menu

The menu is well-structured and offers something to suit every palate. For starters, you can look forward to "Beef Tonnato," a variation of the classic "Vitello Tonnato" with tuna sauce, capers, and arugula; "Burrata di Bufala" with fennel, grapefruit, and chive oil; or "Roast Beef" with fried potatoes, salad, and homemade smoked paprika mayonnaise. Alternatively, there are three different soups to choose from: fish soup, Bavarian ramen, or liver dumpling soup.

For your main course, you can top your mixed salad with your choice of turkey, feta, and/or tuna, and choose between a bowl, a burger, fresh pasta, or classics like "Viennese veal schnitzel," "Irish grass-fed beef steak," or "sous vide pork belly." The main courses are served with mashed potatoes, wasabi, pak choi, and ratatouille root. After your appetizer, soup, and main course, be sure to leave room for dessert—or would you really want to miss out on "eggnog crème brûlée with pear chutney, sesame brittle, and stracciatella ice cream"? Alternatively, you can opt for a delicate "Raffaello cream" with fresh raspberries, crisp almond crumble, and refreshing pineapple sorbet. We are happy to accommodate any special requests, allergies, or intolerances when making your selection.

The renovation of the cozy restaurant "Olympia" is imminent.

In addition, there's a weekly changing menu offering new lunch specials every day from 11:00 AM. From Monday to Friday, two different dishes are available each day – one for meat eaters and one vegetarian. From Cordon Bleu, Sauerbraten, and veal goulash to roasted peppers, pasta caponata, breaded broccoli, and homemade fish fingers, there's plenty of variety. Of course, you can also order from the regular menu at lunchtime, which is what I recommend. Once you've tried the à la carte menu, you'll definitely want more.

Joy on my face, delicious appetizers on the plates.

My visit to the site

I've now had the pleasure of dining at the "Olympia" restaurant twice. Once I enjoyed the delicious five-course Valentine's Day menu, and the second time I chose from the à la carte dishes mentioned above. As is often the case with me, I arrived quite hungry and relied on the expertise of chef Piotr to select my courses. As usual, it was a good decision, because from the first bite to the last spoonful of dessert, I felt absolutely wonderful.

I began my culinary journey at the "Olympia" restaurant with the "Beef Tonnato"—presented like a classic tonnato with plenty of fresh beef, sliced paper-thin. A very successful start. I also had the pleasure of trying the creamy burrata (…I love burrata in every imaginable form…) and enjoyed the added freshness of grapefruit and fennel. Combined with the chive oil, it was simply divine.

After that, I was really drawn to either the juicy steak or a golden-brown Wiener Schnitzel, but I was happy to be proven wrong and chose the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly from the menu. Incredibly delicious, and simply fantastic in combination with the dried plums and the jus! This dish perfectly illustrated for me that it's always worthwhile to try something new and to embrace flavors and impressions that you might otherwise have missed.

When it comes to desserts, I'll keep it short and sweet: I simply ordered both. 😉 My clear favorite: the eggnog crème brûlée! It's worth coming for that alone, and I'm already looking forward to sitting on the terrace in spring, wearing shorts, with an aperitif and delicious food, and enjoying life.

On sunny days, the sunny beer garden awaits you.

Other things worth knowing: breakfast, events, and more.

It's also worth mentioning that you can have breakfast every day from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the "Olympia" restaurant – which also serves as the breakfast room for hotel guests – even if you're not staying at the hotel. For €11, there's a fantastic buffet to choose from. It includes cheese and cold cuts, egg dishes, fresh fruit, sweet pastries and cakes, delicious bread and rolls – fresh from the bakery, salmon, mini white sausages and meatloaf, yogurt, and much, much more.

If you're still looking for a suitable location for your private and/or business events, you can also contact the on-site team. 150 people – indoors and outdoors – are no problem here. Parking is also always easy thanks to the large grounds.

Stop by the "Olympia" restaurant and treat yourself and your loved ones!
