Discovering High-Quality Ferrari Sparkling Wines || I recently had the fortunate opportunity to discover wonderful sparkling wines from the Ferrari sparkling wine house. Along with other guests, I was invited to an exclusive event at Käfer delicatessen, where I sat in the elegantly decorated Käfer Bistro, tasted various Ferrari wines, and enjoyed exquisite Italian cuisine. To complement these exceptional sparkling wines, the evening's culinary creations were prepared by professional chef and Michelin-starred chef Edoardo Fumagalli from the renowned Italian restaurant "Locanda Margon." The evening was a truly wonderful culinary journey through Northern Italy, which I would like to share with you by introducing you to the different sparkling wines, the Ferrari company, and the Michelin-starred Italian restaurant.

An evening full of delights – in the glass as well as on the plates.

Get to know the Ferrari Trento 1902

Before we delve into the different qualities and sparkling wines from Ferrari, let's take a brief look at Ferrari's interesting history. The company „Ferrari Trento“ was founded in 1902 by Giulio Ferrari (in Trento, Italy)., Driven by his dream of creating a sparkling wine in Trentino that could rival the best French Champagnes, Giulio Ferrari enrolled at the legendary wine institute in Montpellier at the end of the 19th century to learn everything about natural bottle fermentation from the French.

Even 120 years ago, the highest quality and accompanying elegance were always the top priorities for all Ferrari productions. Ferrari sparkling wines are therefore produced exclusively in Trentino's best vineyards and are perfected within the Ferrari winery using the techniques prescribed for the production of Trentodoc wines.

Ferrari now stands for 120 years synonymous with luxury and top quality in sparkling wines. Seventy years ago, in 1952, the Lunelli family the company and is now run by the third generation according to the same strict values and principles. Meanwhile Ferrari exports its sparkling wines to more than 50 countries.. Ferrari has always stood as a symbol of the Italian art of living and cultural heritage, accompanying, for example, some of the most important moments in the world of entertainment, art and sport – since 2021, Ferrari Trento has been the official Spumante of Formula 1®.

Various Ferrari qualities were presented and tasted during the event.

Ferrari aims to create unique moments in a glass with its exquisite sparkling wines, and also to express that it's not how you celebrate that matters, but with whom. Alongside quality and elegance, the following are always paramount: The focus is on joie de vivre and uncompromising enjoyment.. Ferrari sparkling wines continue to be among the best in Italy, produced using the traditional method of bottle fermentation. Ferrari is known worldwide.

Today, a glance into Ferrari's cellars reveals the most famous labels of national and international oenology, as well as the most exclusive vintages of Trentodocs from Casa Ferrari.

Enjoy Ferrari's sparkling wines

As part of the "Munich Culinary Journey through Northern Italy", I met four different qualities of Ferrari and a Grappa Segnana know. It started with the „FERRARI MAXIMUM BLANC DE BLANCS“ A Trentodoc of great personality, characterized by freshness, fragrance, and finesse, first produced by Ferrari in 1991. The 100% Chardonnay grapes used for this bright straw-yellow Blanc de Blancs are hand-harvested in the first half of September and spend an average of 30 months on selected lees from the estate's own vineyards. Intensely flavorful, with notes of ripe fruit, fresh bread crust, and hazelnuts, it tastes remarkably fresh and leaves hints of fresh citrus. In my opinion, the perfect start to a delightful and vibrant evening. „FERRARI MAXIMUM BLANC DE BLANCS“ We enjoyed the „starry evening“ both fine Focaccia with extra virgin olive oil from Lake Garda as well as two different types of the highest quality ham (Salumeria Pedrazzoli quality+ „Il Poggio 24 months matured“ and „Nero di Parma 30 months matured“).

Next up was a true style icon in a glass, the „2017 FERRARI PERLÉ“ Made from the finest, exclusively hand-picked Chardonnay grapes from the Lunelli family vineyards, first produced in 1972. After extended bottle aging, elegance, freshness, and harmonious complexity combine. The grapes are aged for an average of 54 months on selected lees from the estate's own vineyards, located in the best growing areas of Trentino. In the glass, the sparkling wine displays an intense yellow color with subtle red reflections, and the perlage is very fine and persistent. The intense and exceptionally delicate bouquet offers hints of almond blossom, russet apples, and a touch of bread crust. I enjoyed the long, velvety finish with a light fruitiness of ripe apples and a pleasant note of yeast and sweet almonds; the smoky undertone typical of Chardonnay also makes the 2017 FERRARI PERLÉ unmistakable. We enjoyed it with the first course of the menu, a „fine potato foam with poached quail egg, truffle, red quinoa and cocoa crumble“.

One of my favorites by the glass and in combination: the „2016 FERRARI PERLÉ ROSÉ RISERVA“

To the two following courses („Bread rolls with caviar, red prawn tartare and orange cream“ and „"Laurel risotto with lemon and roasted almond slices"“) was a „2016 FERRARI PEARL ROSÉ RISERVA“ Poured – a vintage rosé, harvested in mid-September from Pinot Nero (80%) and Chardonnay (20%) grapes from Ferrari's own vineyards via hand-harvesting. It is aged for an average of five years on selected lees from the estate's own vineyards. The grapes are grown at the foot of the Trentino mountains at an altitude of 300 to 600 meters, facing south-southeast. Besides its delicate antique rose color and very fine, persistent perlage, I was also delighted by its intense and elegant bouquet. Notes of ripe fruits such as currant, wild raspberry, and blackcurrant dominate, along with the pleasant aroma of orange peel and roses. The 2016 Ferrari Perlé Rosé Riserva tastes elegant and velvety, possesses excellent structure, and underscores the typical characteristics of Pinot Nero – a hint of spice, sweet almond, and yeast. One of my favorites of the evening!

My personal favorite number two was for me the main course (Course four: „Blanched veal cheek with crispy ham powder, served with fried lettuce hearts and a mustard seed sauce“) served „2015 FERRARI RISERVA LUNELLI“ – A vintage sparkling wine with exceptional structure. It is made exclusively from hand-picked Chardonnay grapes – also from the Lunelli family vineyards, cultivated on the slopes of the Trentino mountains. This sparkling wine is aged for six years on selected lees from their own vineyards. In the glass, it displays a rich yellow color with golden reflections. The very fine and persistent perlage is just as captivating as the fruity and rich bouquet with its complex aromas and pleasing structure. (By the way, this is produced...) in large barrels made of Austrian oak. On the palate, the wine impresses with varietal notes of toasted yeast and mild spices. The oak aging lends the sparkling wine a special harmony and richness. Definitely try it!

For 120 years, Ferrari has impressed with top-quality sparkling wines. I'm thrilled!

Finally, each guest received a sweet treat in the form of... fifth gear and „"Tartufo with a cocoa mass and vanilla, coated with nuts"“. What I particularly enjoyed about this last course was that Michelin-starred chef Edoardo Fumagalli He personally came to each guest's table and plate, rubbing fresh, wonderfully fragrant truffles over the nut-coated, vanilla-filled cocoa sphere. Finally, a perfectly balanced shot landed in the glass. „SEGNANA GRAPPA SOLERA DI SOLERA“ – a very exquisite Grappa di Solera, produced from Trentino grape pomace, which impressed with both its wonderful color and excellent taste with hints of spice and vanilla – perfectly suited to dessert. Also interesting: the grappa matures in American and European oak barrels and is a The perfect ending to delicious dinners and menus.

The menu and its harmonious courses, paired with the Ferrari sparkling wines, were simply exquisite for me personally. This was true both in combination with the wines' individual qualities and when considered separately. My personal favorites were the risotto and the melt-in-your-mouth tender veal cheeks, which gained even more refinement from the elaborately produced ham powder. Although I have been fortunate enough to enjoy many fantastic gourmet menus in upscale restaurants prepared by incredibly talented chefs, I am always amazed by how creatively and yet uniquely each chef infuses their own signature style and flavor into the individual courses – as was the case with Edoardo Fumagalli. The young Michelin-starred chef skillfully showcased the main components of his dishes with the respective Ferrari Spumante, without ever overshadowing the wine or masking any important flavors.
