It's a familiar event, so to speak, as the successful WEINMAHLEINS event series, presented by Mastercard Priceless Munich, is entering its next round. On Sunday, February 16th is it [called from 6:30 pm„Enjoy Italian cuisine at Vecchia Lanterna“ – a small Italian restaurant in Lehel at St. Anna Square, which pampers its guests this Sunday evening with a great four-course menu and corresponding wines.

Wine meal February 2020: Vecchia Lanterna

Look forward to a truly special evening in February! Rumor has it that guests travel from far and wide to dine in this small, cozy restaurant. Numerous regulars are among the frequent visitors and patrons. It's no wonder that many regulars will also be returning for the wine-themed dinner in February 2020, as in addition to the exceptional cuisine, outstanding wines will be served with each course. On the evening of February 16th, these wines will come exclusively from the Ômina Romana winery in Lazio. At the winery, owner Anton F. Börner and his daughter Katharina, with the support of a renowned team of oenologists, cultivate and produce excellent wines on the volcanic soils of the Colli Albani, which have been planted with vines for over 2500 years: Chardonnay, Viognier, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, which are produced as single varietals or in various blends.

Due to the winery's historical background, the cultivation of Ômina Romana wines is monitored by the Universities of Florence and Geißenheim, as well as the Garibaldi Agricultural Institute in Rome. The numbered vines, spread across 80 hectares, are meticulously observed and studied, making them among the best-documented in all of Italy. On the evening of the wine tasting, none other than winery owner August F. Börner will be speaking about the wines – on such a special occasion, it goes without saying that he will personally present his exclusive wines. Of course, there will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the winery, its history, the wines, and the skillful pairing of these with food.

Italian gourmet cuisine in a fitting ambience: Vecchia Lanterna

The evening's exquisite wines will be prepared by owner and chef Antonino Denami himself. As a participant, you can expect a truly special menu, beginning with an amuse-bouche and aperitif. The appetizer opens the evening with tuna tartare with scampi salad, pistachios, blood oranges, and fennel, followed by tortelli with potatoes, buffalo ricotta in leek butter with Périgord truffles. Delicious! The centerpiece of the menu follows: veal loin, spinach, Piedmont hazelnut, artichoke cream, and polenta. The sweet finale is a Valrhona chocolate cremino, Marsala, mascarpone, and pineapple sorbet. Doesn't that sound wonderful? Even just reading the menu suggests a very special evening awaits us, and I'm very curious to see which wines will be paired with each course.

In addition to the menu, wine lovers will likely find the wine shop "Mein Wein," which was added to the restaurant when it moved in 2014, particularly interesting. Here, exclusive wines and sparkling wines are offered, which can, of course, be tasted at Vecchia Lanterna. Italian specialties such as balsamic vinegar, olive oil, chocolate, and grappa are also available for purchase.
