„"Zum Franziskaner" – Fine Bavarian cuisine, hospitality and plenty of space for celebrations

Modernity and tradition at the "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant || The "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant in Munich's city center is one of THE places to go when it comes to high-quality and traditional Bavarian cuisine, rustic coziness and warm service.

The traditional restaurant "Zum Franziskaner," run by the Reinbold family, offers much more than just serving pork knuckle and other regional specialties to its long-standing regulars. Fantastic event spaces for all kinds of functions, a menu catering to vegetarian and vegan guests, a takeaway counter selling amazing meatloaf sandwiches and daily specials, and a tranquil beer garden in the courtyard are just some of the highlights that "Zum Franziskaner" has to offer. To this day, the restaurant is considered a meeting place for friends of fine cuisine, refined snacks and lively celebrations for young and old.

Get to know the restaurant „Zum Franziskaner“

The "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant has been run by the Reinbold family since 1966. Spread over two floors and approximately 900 square meters, it offers modern hospitality combined with a traditional Bavarian atmosphere, and serves high-quality, varied cuisine. Landlord Mathias Reinbold (36) The "Zum Franziskaner" is described as follows: "We combine tradition with modernity and provide our guests with high-quality and sophisticated Bavarian cuisine – including changing daily specials.". Vegetarians and vegans will of course also find what they're looking for with us.. Thanks to our diverse rooms, cozy lounges, and halls, we can easily host any kind of celebration. We are the perfect hotspot for high-quality Bavarian cuisine in Munich's city center, for young and old alike.“

How come I'm telling you about this restaurant? – Quite simply: after my previous visits to "Zum Franziskaner" – always accompanied by wonderful culinary experiences – I told many people about my positive experiences there and how great it is to eat, enjoy the food, and relax in the beer garden in summer. I increasingly noticed that far too few people my age have eaten at the restaurant and therefore haven't yet discovered "Zum Franziskaner" as a hotspot for the best Bavarian cuisine. I want to change that.

Contrary to what you might expect on your first visit, you'll find not only Bavarian tradition here, but also a very modern menu that includes a creative and healthy selection of vegetarian dishes. The "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant also boasts impressive event spaces. A variety of different halls and smaller rooms, perfect for celebrations – whether birthdays, christenings, family meals, or other occasions – are available for booking, complete with great menu suggestions.

You can expect the best Bavarian cuisine at the highest level, but also vegetarian and vegan options.

Cuisine and culinary delights at the „Zum Franziskaner“

At the "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant, a kitchen team of approximately 25 people and around 120 staff members ensure your well-being and enjoyable hours with your loved ones, colleagues, and friends. The menu features rustic snacks and light meals, Bavarian classics – such as oven-fresh roast suckling pig, pork knuckle, suckling pig, Wiener Schnitzel, and duck – as well as the restaurant's signature dish: oven-fresh Leberkäse (Bavarian meatloaf) – homemade and served with potato salad. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available.

Additionally, there is Daily changing lunch specials, These dishes are part of the culinary offerings at "Zum Franziskaner"—both for dining in and for takeaway. From Franziskaner roast pork or meatloaf with potato and cucumber salad, to sliced young bull's liver, baked sea bass fillet or suckling pig hash, to beef goulash, there's a different Bavarian classic every day. You should also definitely try the delicious Leberkäse rolls with homemade "Zum Franziskaner" mustard at the takeaway counter—located right by the kitchen entrance.

The restaurant "Zum Franziskaner" is currently working on a new menu, which I will soon be reviewing and presenting in the second article. I'll be taking a close look at the new menu and taking you along for the tasting. Until then, let's take a tour of the entire restaurant to show you the premises and the various event spaces within.

The largest hall inside the restaurant: The student hall for up to 200 people.

The various rooms

From the outside, some might not suspect it, but the "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant, in addition to the main dining area which you see immediately upon entering through the main entrance, offers a total of seven other, diverse halls and rooms. The restaurant's space, where you can eat, celebrate, and spend enjoyable hours, extends over two entire floors and provides ample room for... Parties and events for 8 to 200 people.

From the „Student Hall“, the „Court Garden“ and the „Zirbel-Stüberl“, to the „King Ludwig Hall“ and the „Triumphator“, to the „Lion“ and „Stöcklstüberl“ there is the right room within the restaurant for every occasion, event and function – whether private or business.

I was allowed to see all the halls and rooms during a short tour. „"Zum Franziskaner" student hall This is the largest and quite well-known room in the Munich establishment. With space for approximately 200 people, it has hosted state premiers, politicians, and celebrities, as well as... from family Reinbold's "Wiesnhalbzeit" (Oktoberfest half-time)„ It will take place there again next year. To ensure that celebrations remain private, the hall even has its own entrance.

Here's another interesting piece of information for you regarding Oktoberfest and celebrations: Some of you might not know that the Reinbold family not only runs the "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant, but also the world-famous "Schützenfestzelt" (Shooting Tent) at the beautiful Munich Oktoberfest – hence the popular "Wiesnhalbzeit" (Oktoberfest Half-Time) at "Zum Franziskaner," which, by the way, is every bit as lively as the Oktoberfest itself. So get ready for double the fun, both at the Oktoberfest and in the Schützenfestzelt! (The Löwenbräukeller also belongs to the Reinbold family – you might read more about that soon.)

For me, the most beautiful room: The courtyard garden with its glass dome and "Oktoberfest feeling"„

My favorite is and remains the weatherproof and super pretty one. „"Court Garden"“ With space for approximately 90 guests, its glass dome, hop-covered wooden arbors, and charming murals guarantee a great atmosphere for celebrations – whether summer or winter, birthday or company party. The glass roof can also be opened in the summer.

If your celebration only includes around 20 people, you'll be in the completely wood-clad „Zirbel-Stüberl“ Just right. At just under 20 square meters, the cozy parlor with its rustic ambiance ensures absolute privacy and seclusion during your celebrations – sound system included, of course. It's a similar story at the „Triumphator„ and at „Löwen-Stüberl“ From here – here too, you can celebrate with up to 20 people in a classic Bavarian setting. Every room and every cozy room will be decorated according to your wishes, and of course, the menu will be agreed upon with you in advance.

In the „"King Ludwig Hall"“ You can also expect a classic Bavarian ambiance, with blue and white checkered curtains, wood-paneled walls, chandeliers, and royal blue floors – for me personally, one of the most beautiful rooms in the restaurant. It can accommodate celebrations for up to 70 guests. The room located on the first floor is also decorated in a cozy Bavarian style. „Stöckl-Stüberl“ It offers a view down to the beautiful courtyard garden and is ideal for celebrations of eight people or more – so for small parties. You can also book a virtual tour before your visit. Take a virtual tour of the "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant.

Things you need to know and what to expect

You've already gotten a first impression of the "Zum Franziskaner" restaurant from me. But of course, we'll be going there together soon for a meal, and I'll show you why it's definitely worth stopping by with your friends and loved ones. My personal review will be in the second part of this article.
