Café at Beethovenplatz – The café at Beethovenplatz has a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere. It's easy to walk in and quickly find a comfortable seat. It's spacious and furnished with dark furniture, but doesn't feel dark or gloomy. The website advertises live music on certain days. On one such evening, we went to the café with two friends – we were really looking forward to the music. Unfortunately, it hadn't started by the time we left about three or four hours later. That was a bit disappointing, and we were at least looking forward to some good food.
The waitress who served us was – for whatever reason – in a rather bad mood for the first 30-40 minutes and served us somewhat reluctantly. This improved as the evening progressed. That alone would be reason enough for me not to return to this café. The main course – pike-perch fillet – was unfortunately not very good either. The fish was very dry, the sauce tasted like something my grandmother would make, and the potatoes were just okay.
For dessert, I had Kaiserschmarrn and marble cake. The Kaiserschmarrn was okay, the marble cake excellent. The café at Hotel Mariandl also has a very extensive and well-rounded breakfast menu – which I haven't tried yet. (I'll let you know...).
Unfortunately, the waitress was only moderately motivated, the music (and therefore the truly cozy atmosphere) was missing, and the food wasn't really enjoyable. Edible, but not what you'd expect from a restaurant. Maybe I'll give the breakfast menu another chance. What do you think? Have you been there and found the breakfast to be good?
