The Catwalk in Bogenhausen is a relatively well-known restaurant in Munich – located directly on the Isar River on Mauerkircherstrasse. We recently decided to have breakfast there rather spontaneously, partly because I was already familiar with the restaurant and had eaten there several times before, and partly because we had a voucher that offered one free breakfast (the cheaper of the two) when ordering two.
So I called ahead and reserved a table for 12:30 pm on the weekend for myself and my companion. Making the reservation wasn't a problem, even though it was the weekend. We drove there, found a parking spot right on the corner of the restaurant, and went in. If you don't have a car, you can easily get there by taking bus line 54 or tram line 18.
A friendly gentleman, who had previously been behind the bar, approached us and spoke to us. When I gave him my reservation details, he went to great lengths to find our empty table, where a name card had already been placed. Once this was done, we sat down at one of the small, simple two-seater tables made of dark wood by the window, with very basic chairs, and were immediately presented with the menus by a friendly waitress. A simple vase with a rose adorned each table. Otherwise, the restaurant is relatively unpretentious, with few decorative elements or additional "embellishments." As mentioned, our focus that day was on breakfast, of which there were seven different options, priced between €6.20 and €12.90.
We opted for breakfast number 2 for €7.80 (three scrambled eggs with fresh mushrooms and herbs, homemade herb quark, three slices of tomato bruschetta, butter, and a bread basket) and breakfast number 9 for €12.90 (smoked salmon, shrimp cocktail, smoked trout fillet, two eggs in a glass or two fried eggs or two scrambled eggs, butter, bread basket, and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or Prosecco). My companion chose scrambled eggs and a freshly squeezed orange juice. The bread from the generously stocked bread basket tasted good and fresh. There was both dark and white bread. My companion's orange juice looked a bit unusual in the glass, but tasted very fresh and delicious. Both breakfasts were delicious overall. The scrambled eggs had the perfect consistency, and combined with the mushrooms, they tasted even better. The tomato bruschetta was delicious, exactly as you'd imagine it should be – I've certainly had some wildly imaginative versions. I finished my meal relatively quickly, drank my Diet Coke (they only had Pepsi Light, but I was informed of this when ordering), and also ordered a chai tea latte, which was equally delicious. My companion's cappuccino was also exactly what we expected and wasn't just frothed milk – which is often the case. The salmon breakfast is definitely not for the faint of heart. 🙂 It's very fish-heavy and rather unusual, but definitely worth a try.
Our server was very friendly and our breakfast was served very quickly. There was nothing to complain about, and we were regularly asked if we wanted anything else. After the empty plates were quickly cleared, we were happy to linger a little longer in the small, long restaurant with about 18-20 tables. It was quite long, with plenty of natural light, light walls, flowers on the tables (as mentioned), a small bar in the back, and an overall relatively simple interior. You can get an impression of the atmosphere from my pictures. While it does feel a bit cold overall, and a few more details or ambiance-enhancing elements could have been added, it's still a comfortable place. You can also find the... Numerous tables are set up outdoors under large umbrellas, and the service is prompt – I sat there in the summer and had a great time.
If you overslept breakfast and are in the mood for a warm main course, Catwalk won't let you down. Whether it's tomato cream soup (€4.80), an appetizer platter (€9.50), roast beef with fried potatoes (€12.90), spaghetti with zucchini and feta cheese (€9.20), or an Asian vegetable stir-fry (€9.40, or €15.80 with black tiger prawns) – Catwalk offers a very good mix of different dishes. The selection of hot drinks, teas, iced teas, milkshakes, ice creams, beers, wines, and spirits is also noteworthy. It's best to see for yourself when you visit.
We ended up saving €7.80, which is the value of my breakfast thanks to the voucher from our coupon booklet. With the tip, we paid €24 for a cappuccino, a Pepsi Light, a chai tea, and two breakfasts. The regular price would have been around €32, which I still think is perfectly reasonable. I recommend a visit followed by a stroll along the beautiful Isar River, either before or after your meal. I'll be back: Generally, yes. But no, not if I'm in a hurry. The food is definitely delicious.
