Daddy Longlegs is a small, cozy café/restaurant on Barer Straße in the center of Munich. I went there for breakfast a while ago with a friend. I'd walked past it many times and really wanted to try their açai berry muesli. So, one Saturday, we went to Daddy Longlegs. The restaurant/café is quite small and cozy. Right at the front, just inside, is the order counter, along with a few comfortable little tables for sitting, reading, chatting, and enjoying a leisurely meal. In the back, a couple of steps up, there are another four or five small round tables with chairs suspended from the ceiling – similar to a swing. During our visit, we tried sitting in the chairs to see what it was like to eat in a swing ;-), but ultimately decided on a regular chair.
The café's menu is concise, with a clear focus on the various mueslis featuring açai berries – the so-called "Açai Bowls" in a wide range of variations. For example, there's the "Pacific Beach" with açai berry, guarana, banana, and cereals. These can be customized with various toppings such as almonds, coconut, seasonal fruit, and mango, as well as maca powder, hemp seeds, chia seeds, or cacao nibs. The toppings cost an additional €2.20 or €2.30, respectively. This brings the total cost of the customized muesli to approximately €8.20 – quite reasonable, considering the muesli is very filling and made with healthy ingredients. We opted for two different mueslis: one with guarana, banana, and cereals, and the other with almonds, coconut, and fruit, each for €5.90. We also ordered a cappuccino for €2.70 and a chai tea for €3.40.
Our drinks were served quickly after we ordered by a friendly young waitress, and the two bowls of muesli arrived attractively arranged and at the same time at our small round table. I also tried my companion's muesli with guarana and other spices, but I was more enthusiastic about my own choice – almonds and coconut topping. The muesli itself consists of 100% natural fruit puree, mixed with a fresh banana and a little natural yogurt, and is served in a small bowl – almost like homemade muesli – with your chosen topping, if you like. The cappuccino and chai tea we ordered were both good, hot, and not too sweet. My companion was still a bit hungry after the muesli and also opted for a vegetarian quesadilla with goat cheese, antipasti, and arugula for €4.20. These are displayed in the small glass case near the entrance and look very appetizing. There are also quesadillas with chicken, cheese, mango and coriander, and varieties that change weekly.
You can also order smoothies – named after Munich districts – with various fresh fruits, including, of course, açai berries. The "Lehel" smoothie, for example, surprises with its spinach, mango, apple, banana, and lemon flavors. If you'd prefer the açai, raspberry, cherry, and banana smoothie, you'll have to order the "Schwabing" smoothie. 🙂 They also offer fruit spritzers, homemade lemonade, and iced tea, as well as frozen coffee, chai, and chocolate. When paying at the counter, we also picked up a banana bread with açai berries for €2.60. In total, we paid €31 including tip. For two very filling mueslis, a quesadilla, two hot drinks, and a generous slice of cake, that's quite reasonable. We're open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Please bring cash – card payments are not accepted. The venue can also be rented upon request. It's the perfect size if you're planning a smaller party or a more private gathering of around 20-25 people – Daddy Longlegs is just the right size for that.
A visit here is definitely worthwhile. It's best to come in the morning, as that's when muesli cravings are known to be greatest. If you're planning to visit on the weekend, I recommend making a reservation by phone beforehand. Then nothing will stand in the way of a delicious açai berry muesli, a fine (regularly changing) cake, or even a warm quesadilla.
