The „H Fünf essbar“ in the Fünf Höfe – restaurant, day bar and café.
The "H Fünf essbar," which opened at the end of 2017 in the Fünf Höfe II shopping center in Munich, has a lot to offer gastronomically, but I personally find that there are few places that are the right location for all your culinary needs at once. Usually, you automatically have to decide: "Would you rather go for breakfast? Lunch or dinner? Or perhaps a glass of wine after work?" – The choice then depends on your decision. The "H Fünf essbar" makes it easy for us. It combines all these options in one place – as a restaurant, (daytime) bar, and café, complete with a cozy terrace.
I've been there several times now and enjoyed great wines, good food, relaxed evenings, and (soon again) sunny hours on the terrace. So it's high time I took you along and introduced you to "H Fünf essbar" in more detail.
The „H Five edible“ get to know each other in the Five Courtyards
My favorite restaurants are those that make me feel completely at ease while offering creative and uncomplicated cuisine. Since its opening almost four and a half years ago, "H Fünf essbar" has been one of my go-to Munich hotspots. It combines hospitality, a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and a comprehensive culinary offering throughout the day. Whether you're there with your laptop for a coffee, on an empty stomach for a delicious lunch, or dressed up for dinner or a nightcap with friends – pretty much anything goes here.
At the same time, "H Fünf essbar" stands for high-quality food, friendly service, and a certain feel-good factor from morning till night. Whether as a breakfast spot, a lively daytime bar, or a restaurant for a great dinner.
Whether for breakfast, a snack, lunch or a long drink – the perfect location for the whole day.
The menu at "H Fünf essbar" is intentionally small, yet offers something for every palate and taste. To provide sufficient variety, the daytime bar also offers a weekly changing menu with various daily specials. In addition, there's an extensive breakfast menu with various egg dishes, pancakes, salmon or ham and cheese platters, porridge, scrambled eggs with truffles, and more. The highlight: The first meal of the day is served all day at "H Fünf essbar," so you can easily drop by in the late afternoon for truffle scrambled eggs or homemade porridge. Thumbs up!
Those who prefer a glass of fine wine to a fresh omelet after lunch won't be disappointed here either. The menu features numerous varieties of open white, red, and rosé wines, including selections from wine regions in Germany, Austria, Italy, and France. Sparkling wines and caviar are also available, as are countless aperitifs, long drinks, and highballs. Cocktails are not served at "H Fünf essbar.".
High-quality and, wherever possible, regional ingredients – always with an eye toward sustainability, environmental friendliness, and improved animal welfare – are just as important here as top quality and friendliness. One point that's personally very important to me for feeling comfortable in restaurants is a noticeably good and welcoming atmosphere that automatically spreads to the guest – you simply want to spend more time there and linger for an extra glass or two, right? That's definitely the case here, and the friendly "H Fünf essbar" team is happy to share a joke or two with you.
What I particularly appreciate is that the food and drink menus feature only dishes that the kitchen team and owner Kai enjoy. Simple, straightforward, and always delicious. So, if you're looking for a relaxed yet high-quality dining experience, this is the place for you. Whether you're dressed casually in jeans, smartly from the office, or relaxing with friends and family – you'll always feel at home here. And if you just want a drink, a glass of wine, or a snack (quiche, sandwiches and baguettes, exquisite cakes, etc.) from the well-stocked counter within the bar, which dominates the room, you'll feel right at home.
Menu and weekly specials of the "H Five" eatery under review
Let's take a closer look at the menus. The dishes available year-round at "H Fünf essbar" are designed to offer something for everyone. From two different types of quiche and an antipasto platter with ham, cheese, olives, and bread, to classic Caesar salad or beef tartare with toasted Trentino farmhouse bread, and even an "Asian bowl" with chicken, vegetables, and curry (also available in a vegan version), there's a diverse selection. My personal highlight of the regular menu is the delicious truffle fettuccine. These dishes are always on the menu, while the weekly specials offer plenty of variety.
Our additional weekly menu, which changes every seven days, regularly offers new dishes in the form of various appetizers, pastas, main courses, and desserts. Look forward to changing soups, different types of pasta with homemade sauces, or highlights such as pearl barley risotto with grilled zucchini and goat cheese, roast beef with onions and fried potatoes and winter vegetables, or even a duet of scallops and fresh salmon.
During my most recent visit to the "H Five edible" restaurant, I experienced the full program. And I opted for dishes from both the regular menu and the weekly specials. To whet your appetite, here's my own menu creation. Either let the menu guide you through the evening, or simply choose what appeals to you.
I started with "Beetroot hummus with goat cheese and grilled zucchini on vanilla foam," followed by a portion of delicious truffle pasta. Both were absolutely divine, not only perfectly balanced in their components but also ideally paired with the recommended wines. The portions are generous, satisfying, and calculated so that you can easily manage a starter and main course. Since I simply couldn't resist, I then tried the aforementioned duet of scallop and salmon, combined with pumpkin purée, ginger spinach, and vanilla foam. Exquisite and a great example to show you how creatively the weekly changing dishes are presented. The sweet finale was the only, but well-chosen, dessert on the menu: "Apple strudel with vanilla sauce"—always a good choice, right? Incidentally, I also enjoyed a fine wine in a nosing glass. Don't miss a tasting!.
It is also worth mentioning that from March onwards – weather permitting – the terrace of the „H Fünf essbar“, designed for approximately 40 guests, will open. And you can look forward to refreshing drinks, good coffee (almost exclusively available here in Munich: Mikah coffee), sparkling aperitifs, and also small summer snacks, such as a delicious bruschetta plate, antipasti, and more. Imagine sitting there, letting the sun shine on your face, sipping your aperitif, a gentle breeze blowing, and simply feeling good – possible from March onwards at "H Fünf essbar" (H Five Eatable) when the weather is good!

Other things worth knowing
My most important tip: Don't just stop by once, but keep "H Fünf essbar" in mind for practically every culinary occasion. Whether you want to enjoy all-day breakfast, highballs, long drinks and wines, or simply fancy a really good meal. It's also the perfect place for a quick espresso and a relaxed get-together on the lovely terrace.
I personally really like the daytime bar because "H Fünf essbar" is a glass-walled space. You can sit at one of the high tables by the window and watch the vibrant city life unfold, or relax at one of the tables further back. You're also welcome to chat with the team at the bar. No matter when you come or where you want to sit, be sure to come hungry! 😉 Whether you decide to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner with coffee, an aperitif, or wine is entirely up to you.
My conclusion: The "H Fünf essbar" stands out with its superb food, excellent wine selection, fantastic long drinks and highballs, and a still largely undiscovered terrace. Trust me: once you've been, you'll keep coming back, and I'm almost certain that this bar, located within the Fünf Höfe complex, will become one of your new "places to be" once you've been there. The "non-stop" breakfast offering from morning till night is also quite unique in Munich.
I'd also like to recommend that "H Fünf essbar" is ideally suited for a) starting a night out with an aperitif (as a "warm-up" location), b) spending hours there enjoying good food and drinks, and c) simply relaxing alone and/or with friends/colleagues/family :-). A true all-rounder.
By the way: "H Five edible" is also available for rent for your (private) events and functions. Just ask. One thing's for sure: I'll be back again and again!
