ITALIAN FABLE – Surprise boxes with Italian delicacies Do you know anyone who doesn't like Italy? The country, the beaches, the weather, the people, and of course, the food? I certainly don't. The latter, in particular, has captivated me, so I was thrilled when I learned that there are now food boxes filled with Italian delicacies. Boxes containing a variety of culinary delights—whether vegan and healthy or focused on the cuisine of a specific country—are already widely available. Now I've discovered ITALIAN FABLE, the monthly box of Italian delicacies, and I'd like to share my experience with you after thoroughly testing it.
To get a good impression of the boxes, I ordered them over the last three months and familiarized myself with the product range in detail. Each of my three Italian boxes (from July, August, and September) contained different specialties from Italy. Of course, not all of them are available here in Munich or even in Germany. Who is behind ITALIAN FABLE and how does it work?
ITALIAN FABLE is a young Italian label that aims to be both an ambassador of the Italian lifestyle and a purveyor of gourmet foods, as well as an "Italian Food Storyteller" with its boxes. Specifically, this means that the ITALIAN FABLE team comes together for each box to present some of the finest Italian gourmet specialties. The selection of each delicacies is based on the highest quality production methods. Furthermore, the contents of your ordered box are never revealed before shipping – so the surprise remains. "Storyteller" because each box includes a handy flyer with the story of the product and the extraordinary people behind it, which can also be read online. Every box contains this flyer, which changes monthly and occasionally offers helpful tips for selecting and preparing the food.

First and foremost, you should love surprises, be open to new experiences, and have a little bit of Italy in your heart. The test and contents of the boxes
Since I had the opportunity to test three different boxes, a small "Italian pantry" gradually took shape in my home. It contains everything from pasta and pesto, olive oil and fine tomato sauce, to crackers, jam, olives, dips and spreads.
The July box
The July box The box contained seven different specialties from Italy. For example, the "Pastamancini," which are recommended to be prepared with the "Sapor di Trota" (lemon trout sauce) also included in the package and a spoonful of fresh Italian lemon oil from the box. (A small recipe for achieving the ideal result is included.) Additionally, the box contained Italian whole wheat crackers, ground on millstones. These were intended to be used with the "Fior di Salsa" spread for dipping and spreading. I tasted them with this, as well as with the sixth product, the "Elisir di uva Zibibbo"—a creamy grape elixir made with Muscat grape must from Sicily. Heavenly. I enjoyed it so much that I followed the advice on the ITALIAN FABLE flyer, bought some Italian sheep's milk and hard cheese at the Viktualienmarkt (Munich's central market), and polished off the entire jar. The final item in the July box was the seventh product: "Cristalli di Limoncello." These are small spheres filled with limoncello, which you should briefly place in the freezer and then let melt on your tongue while ice-cold. Delicious!
The August box
One month later, in August So, then came the next surprise. For me, the nice thing about it is that you naturally forget a little over the weeks that you'll soon be getting a new box, making the surprise all the greater. The doorbell rang, I received my August box, and of course, I opened it immediately. Inside – again neatly and securely packaged – were seven Italian delicacies. This time, there was pasta again. I was delighted with the delicious "Benedetto Cavalieri" penne paired with "Italianavera – Al Basilico" sauce. You should definitely top the dish with the included "Dievole – Extra Vergine de Oliva" olive oil (100 ml). Next up was a great dip, or rather, a spread. This time with zucchini and peppermint, which went perfectly with the other treats in the box. Instead of the limoncello pearls from the last box, this time there were blueberry drops – which had been chilled beforehand, as best as possible. I really enjoyed the little balls last time, so I was happy to try the new flavor. To finish, I had a small box of "Aperol Spritz Dragees." I'd never tried them before, but they tasted quite good as a sweet ending to my pasta and crackers with their typical Aperol Spritz flavor.
The September box
The latest box (September boxThe package contains a delicious hazelnut nougat cream from Piedmont. It's recommended to use it, for example, as a filling for shortcrust pastries or as an ice cream topping. I simplified things a bit, grabbed a teaspoon, and ate the cream straight from the jar. 😉 It's miles apart from other, common hazelnut nougat creams from the supermarket. You can expect a much more intense nutty flavor. The "pistachio pesto" from Sicily is just as special. Unlike what you might be used to, you should heat it in a pan with olive oil ("Muraglia - extra virgin olive oil") and mix it with the handmade pasta ("Pasta Mancini" - boxed fusilli). I love pesto pasta – precisely because of its simplicity – and until now I've rarely eaten pistachio pesto – more often the more common basil and pine nut pesto – in its green form. The pesto pairs perfectly with the fusilli, as it adheres beautifully to the pasta when tossed in the pan. In September, we also offer crispy whole-grain crackers that go wonderfully with Sicilian cherry tomato jam, which in turn tastes fantastic on any kind of bread, cracker, or pastry. Finally, we have the intensely flavored violet dragees from Piedmont – not too strong, but just as special as all the other sweet pastilles, dragees, and drops.
What's also great is that every ITALIAN FABLE flyer includes a small map of Italy with a dot indicating which Italian region each product comes from. For example, in August, it featured delicacies from Campania, Tuscany, Puglia, Marche, Veneto, and Piedmont. In September, however, I was surprised with additional specialties from Sicily and other regions. I found this to be an interesting piece of extra information and further confirmation that everything really does come from Italy. Hopefully, you're now eager to try the boxes. I certainly was, and after the first box, I was already looking forward to the second and could hardly wait to open the third, the September box. You have complete freedom to choose the subscription period. New delicacies every month
I was impressed by each box. Both the mix of products and the individual selection were excellent. For example, Italian pasta was in every box – but never the same type. As mentioned, there was also a different sauce each time, as well as various other items – sometimes jam, sometimes a spread. So there's plenty of variety. The fact that all the products are genuinely from Italy is also important to me. This means there's a new element of surprise with every box. I can recommend ordering one, for example, as a gift for friends, family, or Italy enthusiasts. My personal favorites were definitely the "Zibibbo" grape elixir with spicy Italian cheese from the July box and the pistachio pesto. Absolutely divine!
