CLOSED: KULINADO – Supplying companies and employees with fresh food

Today I met with the team from kulinado – a Munich-based company that delivers to companies, offices, and similar businesses without canteens. Why? Because I find it an interesting concept and the ideal solution for all companies without a canteen, and therefore for all those who run to the supermarket during their lunch break. No more of that, thanks to kulinado. kulinado isn't your average delivery service where you can browse the selection and then order – no, kulinado works differently. I learned how today and want to tell you about it – primarily because it's really worthwhile for anyone working in a company with around 25 to 30 employees or more that doesn't have a canteen. But let's start from the beginning…

Kulinado has been around since October of last year, so for almost a year now, and its goal has been to deliver fresh and varied meals from local businesses to companies every day. This means that if a company decides to order lunch through Kulinado, Kulinado searches for restaurants within a two-kilometer radius, or already has them as partner restaurants, and then compiles a weekly menu for the company featuring the dishes offered by these restaurants. Simply put: You're at the office and all you have to do is check the weekly menu, choose which of the two listed dishes – one with meat, one without – you want to eat, and wait for delivery. Each main course also comes with a small dessert. You don't have to worry about a thing. The two-kilometer distance between the restaurant and the customer, i.e., your office or workplace, is to ensure that the meal arrives quickly for the hungry employee, so you don't have to wait long, and the quality of the food remains guaranteed.

All dishes are freshly prepared daily, and you can choose between two options for the entire week in advance. These options come from different restaurants each day – meaning there's a huge variety and you'll never eat the same thing twice in a row. With kulinado's lunch menu, you'll never experience the "culinary boredom" that often arises in Munich canteens or from monotonous supermarket visits.

Of course, you're probably also interested in which restaurants, which then prepare your meals, are selected by kulinado. It's quite simple: all the restaurants use fresh, regionally sourced ingredients whenever possible, and all dishes are prepared fresh daily. Some of the restaurants partner with kulinado with certified organic producers. Fresh, high-quality ingredients are the foundation for being listed on kulinado. Organic products are also available. At the beginning of each week, the restaurants submit their menu to kulinado. From this, a weekly lunch menu is compiled for you, which the entire team receives to make their selections. Every day at 10:00 AM, you'll receive a reminder email that your food is about to arrive. The selected dish will also be mentioned again, so you know what to expect.

Becoming part of the kulinado customer base is actually quite simple. Your boss (whoever pays the piper calls the tune…) needs to be willing to have food delivered to the company at least one day a week (between Monday and Friday) for at least ten people. With kulinado, the employer contributes three euros per meal. Since all dishes cost a flat rate of €7.50, each employee effectively eats a varied, healthy, and satisfying lunch for just €4.50. If you're thinking, "Um…and why would my boss do that and pay for almost half my lunch?" – It's simple: because it usually means that at least ten employees sit together, thus creating a stronger bond between employees and within the team. It might sound like psychological gimmickry at first – but it's true. Especially in smaller companies where cliques do form – even if subconsciously – and everyone does their own thing at lunchtime, kulinado is perfect. It's simply more pleasant to sit together as a team when everyone gets their food at the same time without having to organize much beforehand or waste time shopping.

Extrapolating – assuming you do this five days a week for four weeks a month, your personal costs for lunch would be just €22.50 per week – since the remaining €3 is paid by the employer. Pretty cool, right? I highly recommend teaming up with some colleagues and maybe talking to a decision-maker at your company. There are so many great options for lunch, and there are still more companies without a cafeteria than you might think. If you work for one of them, feel free to contact me, and I'll put you in touch with the kulinado boss. Ideally, your boss will understand how important your lunch break as a team with healthy food is. 🙂 Companies that use meal vouchers for employees can also score points with kulinado and use the vouchers for this. Even if you say, "One/two/three days a week is enough for us!" or "Every Friday, we have lunch together as a team event!" This is also possible with kulinado, in the same way and also via a weekly menu. kulinado is happy to adapt to the needs of the respective teams as soon as at least ten portions are ordered per day.

Of course, deciding to have your lunch delivered regularly requires a bit more thought than simply ordering a pizza once in a while. However, you should definitely look into it further, as it works incredibly well, tastes great (I had the pleasure of trying it myself ;-)), and saves a lot of time and stress. Kulinado offers a free trial meal to interested companies so they can experience their excellent service and delicious food firsthand. If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to contact me as mentioned.

I'll order again:  If I were to work in a company without a canteen – this would definitely be a great alternative.
