The Rothof restaurant is located in Bogenhausen and belongs to the hotel of the same name. My companion and I recently decided to visit and have dinner there on the spur of the moment. The hotel restaurant is somewhat secluded and not so easy to find. To get there, we had to walk down a small, rather dark path to the back, through a covered parking lot, and then uphill over a small hill to reach the restaurant. It sounds more dramatic than it actually is, though; it's only about 300 meters from the main hotel to our table and the menu.
As soon as we entered the restaurant, a friendly gentleman registered us, asked about our reservation made in advance through Quandoo, and showed us to our table. We chose a small table for two, with tea lights, in the back of the huge dining area, which is partially on a mezzanine. Once we were seated, a very friendly server brought us the menu. It's relatively concise but offers a good variety of dishes and is presented in a fun design. The menus are more like a book and also include information about sports and other activities. This is because the restaurant belongs to a hotel that also has a large sports and fitness area, as well as tennis courts.
The menu lists pasta, fish, and meat dishes (from €6.90 to €17.90). There are also several burgers, including a vegetarian option, as well as soups, salads, and desserts. We started by choosing our drinks: two glasses of Pinot Gris (0.2l each for €5.40) and a 0.75l bottle of water (€5.20). The wine was at the perfect temperature and tasted delicious, just as you'd expect from a Pinot Gris. We ordered a "small bottle" of water, but it was too much, and personally, I think €5.20 is far too expensive. Then we ordered our meals. I chose pasta with salmon pieces (strozzapreti with salmon, cherry tomatoes, and arugula for €9.90). My companion chose a burger (pure beef with spicy cocktail sauce, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and pickles) and a side of potato chips for €11.90. We also opted for a soup (sweet potato cream soup with thyme foam and red sprouts for €5.90) to share as a starter. We were pleasantly surprised that the friendly waitress brought the soup to us on two separate plates with some bread, but then felt it was a bit odd that this was charged at an additional €1.50 on top of the soup price. After all, we had ordered one soup and hadn't asked if we could have two plates. Well, €1.50 isn't the end of the world, and it's more a matter of principle. The soup itself was excellent and had a delicate flavor. Very intense and delicious, especially with the fresh bread. The empty soup plates were cleared away quickly. The two main courses we ordered arrived simultaneously and promptly after the starters. Both the pasta dish and the burger were delicious. I couldn't even finish my pasta and left a little bit. My companion's burger was also very good; the meat was juicy and fresh. I can definitely recommend coming here if you're in the mood for a burger. While the selection isn't huge, it's all the more delicious and beautifully presented. The vegetarian option with black beans and Cajun seasoning costs €10.90 with salad and €11.90 with chips. For the health-conscious among you, there are also various salad options, such as a classic Caesar salad for €9.90 with different toppings like chicken breast, goat cheese, or salmon fillet.
Just before our main courses were served, the projector was unfortunately switched on, or at least to our disadvantage, and the football match was projected onto the screen at a rather excessive volume. The cozy atmosphere was somehow ruined, and even though only two other tables were occupied, and only one of them was watching football, the game continued. At our request, the volume was immediately turned down a bit, and the waitress offered us a seat in the back of the restaurant. We did so and took a seat there; it helped a little, but was then tolerable.
The restaurant's ambiance is very cozy. Dark tables, light leather chairs, brick walls, colorful pictures on the walls, a terrace with seating, very high ceilings, and overall an open and airy atmosphere. I felt very comfortable in the restaurant and was particularly impressed by the exceptionally friendly waitress. She even came to our table to ask if we wanted another coffee while the machine was being cleaned – very thoughtful. The empty plates were cleared immediately after the main course, and we were asked if we would like dessert, which we declined given the size of our main courses. Dessert options included a sweet treat in a glass jar for €4.90 or a chocolate cake in a glass with vanilla ice cream and wild berry compote for €5.90.
From Monday to Friday, a business lunch is offered from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm for €6.90. This includes the daily special (which changes every day) or a vegetarian option, along with a sweet surprise. If you're planning an event, you can organize and host it in the modern setting of the Rothof. Whether for business or pleasure, you're sure to find the perfect package for your individual celebration. We paid €48 including tip with our debit card.
I'd also like to tell you a little more about the table reservation. As mentioned above, we made it via... Quandoo – the portal for table reservations in a wide variety of restaurants (over 10,000) in a wide variety of cities. (There's even a version available as...) App (in the App Store). The reservation process was completely seamless and took just a few clicks. Simply enter your location (if desired), view nearby restaurants, or enter your preferred restaurant, and you're done. I was genuinely surprised by how easy and, above all, quick it was to reserve a table. I often find it frustrating when it takes a long time to get a table – with Quandoo, you don't even have to pick up the phone. With every reservation, you collect loyalty points, which you can then exchange for restaurant vouchers worth up to €100 once you reach 1,000 points. I will only book my restaurant reservations through Quandoo from now on because it's quick, uncomplicated, and you can collect valuable points that actually have a purpose. If you can't make it at the last minute, cancellation is also easily done with a single click via the app. Try out both the Rothof and Quandoo yourself. Perhaps even in combination. Have fun!.
I'll be back: Yes. There's nothing wrong with that. If you don't like watching sports events, it's best to check beforehand whether you'll have peace and quiet.
