Samrat in Papa-Schmidt-Straße in Munich city center is one of the best Indian restaurants in all of Munich – even if, like me, you don't like it spicy and with meat.
The restaurant itself is typically "Indian," at least how a German would imagine an Indian restaurant to be. Yellow walls, dark wood, a huge picture of the Taj Mahal painted on the wall, oriental lamps, a Buddha on the windowsill, and various Indian spices as a small snack at the exit.
The staff is very friendly and efficient. When we're there, I regularly order Palak Paneer, Malai Kofta, Mutter Paneer, or vegetarian Thali – which is also available with meat and in different spice levels upon request. I personally don't eat spicy food at all, and Samrat has never disappointed me in that regard. Just mention it when ordering, and you'll definitely get a mild dish. There are plenty of Indian restaurants in Munich that will note your request but still serve you spicy food.
The Palak Paneer is excellent. It's not bland at all, has plenty of paneer (Indian cheese), and is a real treat when served with the fresh, warm naan bread. I've also tried several other dishes there and have never been disappointed. The vegetarian Thali is a dish with 4-6 small pots of different sauces. You can sometimes choose or change the sauces if you don't want a particular one. (Be sure to ask for the Palak Paneer and Mailai Kofta!)
Samrat also offers a delivery service. I've used it several times through Lieferheld and we've always been satisfied. After ordering a few times, the €3 delivery surcharge was waived.
My companion always ordered with chicken and well-seasoned – these dishes were always very tasty and similar to authentic Indian food in India. Authentic flavor, good blend of spices, and always fresh and plentiful.
For around €45-50 for two people, you can eat very good Indian food here. Card payments are accepted, including for delivery.
