Tambosi at Odeonsplatz | Successor and concept have been determined – Since the end of last year, the coffee house, founded at the end of the 18th century and known for over 20 years as a popular hotspot and meeting place for Munich's high society, has been closed. Then it was over, and everyone had to wait and see what would happen next. It was clear from the beginning that Tambosi would remain closed for at least six months for renovations. Now, the future has been decided.
Tambosi's successors have been chosen
That the premises will once again be used by restaurateurs after the renovation (previously: Frank and Andrea Waldecker | now „“Masterpiece” in Pasing and Haidhausen), that much was clear from the start. Demand was high, the selection process was difficult, and ultimately it fell to the well-known Munich restaurateurs Ugo Crocamo ("H'ugo's Pizza-Bar-Lounge" on Promenadeplatz) and his brother Pino ("Master's Home" on Frauenstraße). While it's likely that the extremely high rent for the property was a deterrent for some restaurateurs, the real problem in the selection process was the "embarrassment of riches," as numerous restaurateurs would have liked to implement their concepts in the former trendy café.
What awaits us in the „new Tambosi“?
The "new Tambosi" is scheduled to open in 2017, bringing it to life for us Munich residents – for long-time regulars as well as new friends and fans of Italian cuisine. One thing is certain: it will remain Italian – it would be strange if that were to change, even with this new owner.
Currently, construction is underway – sawing, screwing, and furnishing. Upstairs, an upscale restaurant with a gallery will open – exclusively for the summer months – focusing on Mediterranean cuisine, both à la carte and set menus. A lunch menu will also be available in winter. The ground floor café, complete with an outdoor seating area and sunny terrace, will be open daily from morning until 1 a.m. It will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, or the perfect nightcap for a relaxing chat on the terrace. So we can all breathe a sigh of relief, because the classic Tambosi-Feldherrnhalle-view seating arrangement, so prominent for years, will be returning. Oh yes, and the adjoining garden will also serve Mediterranean fare: pizza and pasta will be on the menu.
