Hans im Glück Munich Airport Admittedly, my 19th visit to the Munich Airport burger chain was probably the least surprising of all. Not because the experience didn't meet my expectations or was bad, but simply because I'd eaten, lingered, and had drinks at other branches of the chain quite a few times. Few people know that the burger giant has also had a presence at the airport since the end of April, but I was all the more certain that I could look forward to good burgers and a nice salad. So, who am I talking about? That's right! Hans im Glück. Anyone who doesn't know it has probably never eaten a burger in Munich, let alone walked through Munich with their eyes open, because this nationwide chain is undoubtedly the most well-known place for burgers in all of Munich. I know: not everyone likes it, but I've always enjoyed it so far, the service has always been friendly, and so I was equally pleased with this, so to speak, "only semi-new" visit to the Munich Airport burger chain.

What can you expect at Hans im Glück at Munich Airport?

Quite simply: the menu features burgers, fries, sweet potato fries, salads, and good drinks. They also offer desserts, coffee, and—unlike other Hans im Glück locations—a deli counter or to-go area with filled rolls, baguettes, and sandwiches for guests. This makes perfect sense, as Hans im Glück is located directly in the departure area, and if you're waiting for your flight but don't have much time to spare, this small counter area is ideal. Of course, you can also take away the burgers and fries, but I had plenty of time and, along with my companions, chose one of the tables nestled among the birch trees that are—as usual—placed throughout the airport. If you're now wondering, "So where exactly is Hans im Glück at Munich Airport?", I, as a non-passenger, have to disappoint you a little, because you can't get into the area without a packed suitcase. The Hans im Glück, which is just under a year old, is located behind security in the new departure area. „Ohhhh!“, some might think now, but if you are departing from Gate G and K in the new satellite airport, it will be much more „Yippee!“ and nothing will stand in the way of a delicious burger before departure.

The ambience and the surroundings

Okay. So, I found a table with my companions – time to look around. Typical of every Hans im Glück: thin white birch trunks throughout the restaurant. Add to that light floors, warm lighting, tree-patterned wallpaper, black furniture with gray felt placemats on the tables, the signature Hans im Glück sauces (be sure to try the Spicy BBQ Sauce and the Orange Mustard Sauce!), upbeat background music, and a harmonious overall impression. Admittedly, what I liked most was that it wasn't too crowded or noisy, and I could enjoy my meal in a relaxed atmosphere. (If you haven't been to Hans im Glück yet: always make a reservation in the city center in the evening, as the restaurants, practically anywhere in Munich, are very popular and correspondingly crowded.) At the airport, we were able to chat comfortably, had a table for four to ourselves, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. (What all three of us noticed: It's a bit cramped at the tables, as the birch trunks are very close to the narrow benches, making it difficult to lean back or move around freely.) Overall, however, I felt comfortable and didn't have the feeling – which is always a deciding factor for me – that I wanted to jump up and leave right after eating.

Now, let's get to what is probably the most important part: the food. Imagine you're there, sitting at my table, enjoying a delicious meal. Let's take a look at what's on offer, shall we? That brings us to the first highlight, which even die-hard Hans im Glück fans might not be aware of yet. Ta-da! For the past few days, Hans im Glück has had a completely new and revamped menu. So, anyone who says, "Hans im Glück, I already know everything there!" or "I've already tried everything on the menu!" is mistaken, because there have been some changes to the burgers, salads, and cocktails. A few burgers have been removed, others slightly modified, and still others added to their respective categories. For example, the vegan burgers (all 4 for €8.80) now include the "Coachman" (with a spicy patty, grilled vegetable tartare, and arugula) and the "Juglans" (with a wheat patty, mushrooms, and three-pepper sauce). All beef burgers can now be ordered with a fiery pepper crust. Vegetarians (all burgers between €8.80 and €9.10) can look forward to new additions, such as the "Strong Tobacco" burger (with an olive patty, spicy pepper sauce, and arugula for €8.80). So it's worth stopping by again and trying them.

Our selection at a glance

We, meaning my two companions and I, opted for two burgers, two different types of fries, and one salad with a special sausage, which in this case was chicken breast on the "Lucky Child" salad. So you can also make specific requests. For the burgers, we chose the "Avocado" and the "Hen," which should make the main ingredient between the buns pretty clear. 😉 The Avocado Burger – shown in cross-section in the photo gallery – consists of a choice of bread (sourdough, multigrain, or no bread at all), meat, onions, Hans im Glück sauce, and tomatoes, as well as avocado and hay-milk cheese (from the Zillertal valley). The "Hen" Burger features chicken breast, avocado cream, orange-mustard sauce, and sprouts. It's especially good value if you order everything as a meal deal. If you opt for fries or sweet potato fries with your burger, like we did (one of each), the lunch menu offered until 5:00 PM makes perfect sense. It includes a burger, your choice of side, a soft drink or small beer, and a hot beverage. You only pay an extra €6 on top of the burger price, making it a better deal overall. From 5:00 PM onwards, it's "dinner," and you get a cocktail (for €9 on top of the burger price) with your burger and choice of side. So, our order was: two burgers with sweet potato fries (an extra €0.70) and a salad with extra chicken breast.

The drinks menu is equally diverse. It's divided into thirst quenchers, soft drinks, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic cocktails, as well as sparkling wines and wines. It was too early for the latter, so we stuck with the thirst quenchers. We opted for the "Original Apple-Rhubarb" and the "Original Mango-Mint" (0.5l each for €4.60 | available in 5 varieties), and a "Still Lemonade - Fruit Salad-Mint" (€4.60 | available in 3 varieties). Our drinks arrived promptly, and the burgers, along with the side dish and my salad, were at our table in under 15 minutes. Excellent!

Haven't tried it yet, but soon – the new "Alsatian" burger„

The "Classic Burger," the "Wild West" Burger, the "Cheese & Bacon" Burger, and the "Hans im Glück" Burger are particularly popular at Hans im Glück at Munich Airport. Personally, I absolutely love the "Lucky Child" salad with hard cheese, mushrooms, and Parmesan dressing (€10.90). When it comes to burgers, I usually go for one of the classics mentioned above and will be stopping by again in the next few days to try something new. Everything was served incredibly quickly and presented beautifully. If you arrive early and are in the mood for breakfast, Hans im Glück also offers a variety of options. They serve omelets (from €6.40), warm pancakes (€6.90), and various "Gold Pieces" (egg burgers in different variations) (from €6.50).

Facts and information – Hans im Glück Munich Airport

Hans im Glück opens at 6:00 AM. Breakfast is served daily until 10:00 AM. Burgers can be ordered on-site until 10:00 PM. If you happen to arrive after 10:00 AM, you can still ask about breakfast; your request will be accommodated if possible. Due to the breakfast menu and the airport location, the opening hours differ considerably from other Hans im Glück locations, so you can enjoy burgers earlier than usual if you're departing from the relevant gates. The takeaway counter is stocked from morning till night. Hans im Glück features approximately 28 tables of varying sizes, nestled among numerous birch trees. Reservations for large groups are possible but not required.
