FOODANOO – the platform for hungry people

Foodanoo Am I going out on a limb if I say that pretty much everyone has craved something specific at some point, but couldn't quite remember which restaurant was currently serving it? Or, to take it a step further: wouldn't it be fantastic if you were craving (for example) vegetable lasagna, pizza, cordon bleu, or something more unusual, and you instantly saw a list of all the restaurants in your neighborhood? And I mean restaurants with their menus that were actually serving that dish? I certainly think so. And because I enjoy reading menus as much as most people enjoy reading the newspaper, I stumbled upon Foodanoo quite naturally and happily. 🙂

What is Foodanoo and what is it good for?

Foodanoo is a platform that does the thinking for you and your hungry stomach, helping you choose the right restaurant. All you need to know is what dish you're craving, type it into the appropriate field ("Dish, Cuisine, Ingredients…"), and you're good to go. In short, Foodanoo helps you find the perfect restaurant in your city. So, for example, if you know your companion loves fish or have been searching for the perfect Wiener Schnitzel, you can now search for the ideal spot on Foodanoo. And if you want to refine your search further, that's no problem either.

Set filters and achieve precise results

The whole process is made even easier by the extremely precise filters. You can choose from a variety of checkboxes to determine how specific the results should be. Using the filter is particularly useful if you're looking for vegetarian dishes, for example. You can enter not only "roast pork" but also simply "Bavarian." Or you can enter ingredients. "Meat" works just as well as "Schnitzel" or "Bavarian." If you have a culinary term in mind, Foodanoo will show you the restaurants that match. Let's take Wiener Schnitzel as an example. If you enter that for Munich without any further restrictions, the search currently returns almost 190 dishes and 163 restaurants. So you decide whether you prefer a list of dishes including prices or the names of the restaurants that offer the dish. If you choose "Dishes," they will be displayed exactly as they appear on the restaurant's menu. If you click on "Restaurants" you can also click on the menu or lunch menu, read some facts about the restaurant and see some pictures in the preview.

This is what Foodanoo looks like

I also really like that you can set the minimum and maximum price using a simple slider. So, if you're totally open to different culinary options, you can simply leave the line blank and only specify the price range and city. Similarly, you can also check boxes for things like Wi-Fi if you're working there, or for vegetarian, vegan, card payment, organic, etc. In short: "Hungry? Hungry! Open Foodanoo.de, enter your city (or use location services), and view the restaurants. Add filters if needed, and then just go!"„

The selection has been made…

What I particularly like after clicking on a specific restaurant is that you can – depending on the location – reserve a table directly. After clicking, you'll also see the opening hours, the menu and lunch specials (as mentioned), as well as all the criteria for the respective location in the left-hand column. This includes a small map, the address, and all filter results indicating whether the restaurant meets or doesn't. For example, if there's no Wi-Fi, this is marked with a small red cross; if vegan options are available, you'll see a green checkmark.

My personal conclusion

Foodanoo is great. You can find targeted information about individual restaurants and get all the necessary details delivered concisely. I know the concept of an "online menu" compiled in one place, or on one website, has been around for a while, but Foodanoo implements the idea very skillfully, offering a wealth of frequently changing information and constantly updated menus in an easy-to-understand format. I like the idea of being helped to make a decision in a straightforward way. Whether it's about the dish itself, choosing a restaurant, or specifically searching for vegetarian restaurants, and much more. If you're having a particularly uninspired day, you can simply enter a letter into the search field, and the auto-preview will suggest several terms containing that letter. 😉

The search mask

Take a look around the platform. If you've been to a restaurant and taken photos of your food or the restaurant itself (inside or out), you can upload them to Foodanoo. This helps other users find their way around and also adds more pictures to the Foodanoo platform. I'm glad I discovered Foodanoo and now I can just enter my dish every now and then and maybe – in my case – discover a restaurant or two that I haven't yet discovered in my hometown. By the way, the right-hand side menu on the website regularly displays other restaurants with pictures and names, which you can then learn more about with a simple click.
