Sushi delivery service Munich | Delivery Hero As you've probably all noticed, I've spent the last 10 weeks visiting and reviewing 10 Italian restaurants for you. Since my special series was so well received and now that the colder months have arrived, I've come up with something new and just as interesting: a special series running every two weeks for the next few months, in which I'll be trying out a variety of delivery services, all found on [website/platform name]. Lieferheld.de. How did I come up with this? Well… :-)… Even I, as you know from various articles, sometimes don't feel like leaving my warm apartment. And then I'm regularly tempted by the simple and uncomplicated ordering via Lieferheld or the Lieferheld app. I've now placed well over 50 orders – so why not share them with you? Those who read my blog regularly will also have read the article about… Curry Compass (from Lieferheld). In that context, I came across the Indian restaurant Samrat I tested it, but the focus in this case was clearly on the Curry Compass. Now I'm starting with the first delivery service…

The selected delivery service

The first delivery service I tested is called wok Wok München is located in Berg am Laim, on Kreillerstrasse. They specialize in delivering sushi and other Asian food. My review focuses on their sushi, which is very popular with Munich residents. Wok offers a wide variety of sushi, including nigiri, temaki, sushi sandwiches, nori maki, and – my personal favorite – inside-out maki. These are the rolls where the rice is attached outside the nori. My second favorite is the aforementioned nigiri. Here, the ingredient (fish, meat, crab, scampi, egg drop, etc.) is pressed onto a relatively elongated ball of rice and sometimes – though not always – secured with a thin strip of nori (for example, the kani variety with crab meat at Wok München). Whether in the form of sake (with salmon), maguro (with tuna), or in other versatile combinations such as shiromi (with white fish) or ebi (with scampi) – they all taste delicious. You should definitely order them at least once. If your order consists solely of nigiri, I think about 7-10 pieces would be enough to satisfy you (each piece at Wok costs between €1.80 and €3.20). The selection of different inside-out maki is also impressive. A total of 16 different varieties can be ordered, with six pieces available from just €3.90, for example, gomaae maki with spinach in sesame sauce, coated in sesame seeds. (Very tasty!). Indeed, sushi can be enjoyed even by those who aren't fish fans. Of course, the essential ingredient that makes good sushi is missing, but there is still a wide variety of different rolls and other items to choose from at Wok.

The ordering process at Lieferheld

If you're not yet familiar with the Lieferheld platform, this first article will explain how to navigate it. If you're already comfortable with Lieferheld, know the site, or are tech-savvy, you can skip this paragraph. From the next article onward, specifically delivery service number two, we'll focus solely on the delivery service itself. So, how does it all work? Simply enter your street and postal code, and all delivery services that deliver to your area will appear. In the left-hand menu column, you can then select your desired category: Asian, Indian, Pizza, Burgers, Oriental, or perhaps Gourmet? The number of delivery services available in each category is always displayed in parentheses before you click or check a box. I clicked on Sushi – in my case, there were a total of 66 delivery services, 16 of which were sushi providers – and then selected my preferred delivery service from the list that appeared. Actually, it works the other way around. I personally decide what I'm in the mood for and browse through the different menus. So, if you only have "nigiri" in mind, for example, you can enter that in the search bar at Lieferheld and you'll get a list of all the providers offering your desired dish. You can also filter the results to show only services with happy hours (i.e., special offers or bundles), those that only accept online payments, or those where you might have to pay in cash. Once you've chosen the right delivery service and made your selection, you just need to enter your details. After payment (PayPal, instant bank transfer, Visa, Amex, Mastercard, or cash), you'll receive an approximate delivery time estimate. Then all you have to do is wait.

The tasting and the service

I was able to complete my order relatively quickly, as I know what I like and clicked fairly strategically. Of course, it's also fun to browse through the different delivery services. If you're completely clueless and don't know a particular type of food at all, feel free to either ask me for my recommendations or read the reviews of the individual delivery services. The advantage is obvious: only those who have actually ordered can rate their order, waiting time, delivery, and the food itself. So you definitely get well-founded feedback. So... my sushi was ordered, and it was supposed to arrive in 45 minutes. Regarding the waiting time, it's generally calculated rather "generously," regardless of where you order. The calculation is based on various criteria, which are used to determine approximate waiting times based on experience. Don't get nervous if nothing has arrived 20 seconds later, or if you have to wait much less. That's how it was for me – after 28 minutes, my companion and I had our sushi. We chose a variety of sushi and sampled a little of everything. We had several inside-out maki rolls, nigirs with salmon, tuna, and egg drop, two different soups (tofu and Peking soup, each €2.80) as starters, and a spinach salad. The sushi arrived quickly, was attractively presented, and tasted excellent.

Simply put, I would definitely order from Wok again. The sushi was definitely freshly made and certainly rolled for us. I've often seen restaurants use pre-rolled sushi (…because it's quicker…). Wok's sushi rolls were all neatly rolled, looked appetizing, and tasted fantastic. The price-performance ratio is also excellent. Everything you see in the pictures (plus a 1-liter bottle of Coke) cost under €50 and would easily feed three people. If you live in the relevant postal code area, or if Wok Munich delivers to you, you should definitely try eating your next sushi at home and order a couple of sets. If you don't want to assemble your own sushi, you can also choose from Wok's ready-made sushi menus (starting at €8.90). I'm pretty sure: anyone who likes sushi will love Wok Munich's. And thanks to Lieferheld, it arrives at your door in no time. Something really funny happened to me, which is how I know for sure: Wok really does ensure your food arrives. My doorbell was broken, I had no idea, my cell phone had no signal, and the friendly gentleman stood in front of the house with the sushi and kept shouting up to my window, getting louder and louder, "Murthy! Murthy! Sushi! Murthy!" 🙂 Now that's what I call dedication! Thumbs up.
