Just as good as the "normal" meat patty: Vegan patties from GREENFORCE with potato and endive salad in the Hofbräukeller beer garden
Vegan delicacies from GREENFORCE in the Hofbräukeller beer garden | I admit it: If someone had told me before my visit to the beer garden of Munich's Hofbräukeller that they went there to enjoy vegan beer garden delicacies, I would have been quite surprised. Now, after a pleasant and very enjoyable beer garden visit, I can confidently say that the historic Hofbräukeller and its beer garden probably offer some of the best Bavarian and vegan delicacies far and wide. How this initially unusual combination came about, what the successful start-up GREENFORCE has to do with it, and how my companion, who is very meat-oriented in everyday life, liked the vegan GREENFORCE food tasting in the Hofbräukeller – you'll find out now.

New! Vegan dishes from GREENFORCE are now on the menu at the Hofbräukeller beer garden at Wiener Platz.
Discover the Hofbräukeller beer garden
What do you think? – Is there even a single Munich resident who hasn't yet visited the Hofbräukeller, complete with its beautiful beer garden under ancient chestnut trees, regular live music, rustic atmosphere, and delicious Bavarian cuisine at Wiener Platz? I don't think so. I've eaten Bavarian food there so often with my partner, enjoyed a Hofbräu Radler with a pretzel and Obatzda with friends, or even had dumplings with duck for my own Christmas party..
I always feel comfortable here and know that whenever I sit in the Hofbräukeller – whether in the beer garden or the restaurant – I'll always have a good meal, friendly service, and a happy ride home. Admittedly, I haven't been able to come here with every companion so far, as there have sometimes been vegans in our party. "Is there anything for vegans?", "What, Bavarian cuisine? I can't find anything to eat there!", or "Then I'll just have a side salad again!" are just some of the comments I've heard. In short, it's clear: even though vegetarian dishes can now be found on most (Bavarian) menus, there are still very few, if any, options for vegans in Bavarian restaurants. "It has to be different!" thought the friendly owner, Silja Steinberg – I had the pleasure of dining with her – and promptly combined what might initially seem unusual: beer garden delicacies and vegan cuisine. I particularly like the idea because it shows that even long-established and very traditional companies and restaurants can be courageous and open to new things.
Specifically, this means: From now on, there is also plenty of variety for vegan guests of the Hofbräukeller, without losing sight of the classic beer garden feeling..The result is innovative, sustainable, and delicious plant-based dishes that are a far cry from boring leafy salads and promise the ultimate beer garden experience in terms of variety and creativity. The partner for this fantastic project alongside the Hofbräukeller is the plant-based food substitute startup GREENFORCE, led by CEO Thomas Isermann. So come on down to the vegan currywurst, the vegan meatball, and the vegan burger at the Hofbräukeller!.
Discover GREENFORCE: 100% vegan products for DIY mixing
Before we take a bite and try it, a quick word about GREENFORCE. To put it simply: If you're not yet familiar with GREENFORCE as a startup, you should definitely check out their website and learn more before the taste test at the Hofbräukeller and in your own kitchen – regardless of whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or meat-eater. It's worth it! GREENFORCE develops purely plant-based and 100% vegan products, enriched with high-quality raw materials and proteins, providing us with food products for mixing and preparing simple and quick meals. This means that when you hold a GREENFORCE product in your hands, or order a GREENFORCE dish in a restaurant, you automatically get quality, plenty of plant power, and good ingredients.
The use of GREENFORCE products, packaged in pouches, is incredibly simple: open the desired pouch, mix the powder with water, refrigerate, and prepare – whether for meatballs, burgers, schnitzel, minced meat, fish cakes, cevapcici, or Swedish meatballs. Also new is the plant-based GREENFORCE currywurst, which I tasted and is offered exclusively at the Hofbräukeller in Munich. All of GREENFORCE's fiber-rich products are produced cruelty-free and climate-neutrally. As a startup, GREENFORCE makes it easy for everyone to adopt a healthy and sustainable plant-based lifestyle. This also benefits a wide variety of restaurants, shops, cafes, and other establishments that want to offer their guests additional vegan options on their menus without much effort. The Hofbräukeller beer garden is leading the way, and of course, I had to try it immediately.

Hofbräukeller beer garden vs. GREENFORCE delicacies – the tasting
No half measures here, so my companion and I sampled the entire GREENFORCE menu. Before we begin, let me share my personal views on meat consumption: I abstained from meat for a long time and now believe that a high-quality cut of meat now and then—a good sausage, a delicious schnitzel, etc.—is perfectly fine as long as the quality is right and you "know what you're eating," meaning how the animals lived and were raised. However, it doesn't always have to be meat, especially when there are such excellent alternatives as those recently introduced at the Hofbräukeller.
The tasting kicked off with GREENFORCE's newcomer, a vegan currywurst that was visually indistinguishable from a regular one. It's also GREENFORCE's newest creation and is featured on the Hofbräukeller's beer garden menu. The currywurst arrived at the table – served with fries and sliced – in a small tasting portion for two, and my first bite was a pleasant surprise. Taste-wise and visually, there's no difference to a regular currywurst. Even when I scraped off the curry sauce to taste the sausage on its own – no difference was discernible. My companion responded positively, saying, "That's just a regular sausage, isn't it?" 😉 Amidst the enthusiasm at the table, Thomas Isermann explained that many years had gone into perfecting the composition, selection of ingredients, and recipe to achieve this exact taste experience. Even the raw materials are grown and selected by GREENFORCE themselves. The same principle applies, of course, to the GREENFORCE meatball served afterward, which was in no way inferior to the currywurst in terms of appearance, taste, and enjoyment. The meatballs are well-seasoned and taste truly delicious. They have a firm bite and are very similar in flavor to a classic, extra-fine veal meatball. Since I know what regular sausages, meatballs, and burgers taste like, I subconsciously make comparisons automatically. That's precisely why I was so enthusiastic.
The third vegan dish on the Hofbräukeller beer garden menu is the vegan GREENFORCE Burger. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical before taking a bite, as I'd already tried many plant-based burger alternatives that hadn't really impressed me. Visually, there's no difference to a meat burger. Even the smell of the patty doesn't betray its plant-based origin. I cut the burger in half for my companion and myself, deliberately tasted the "vegan meat" on its own, and was immediately blown away by how incredibly similar the GREENFORCE Burger tastes to a meat burger. Take a look at the picture (left) to see the inside of the patty. Hard to believe, right? – Just wait until you try it.
Also worth knowing: All GREENFORCE products have one-third less fat and carbohydrates than their meat counterparts, are cholesterol-free and antibiotic-free, and even provide you with plenty of protein and fiber. The collaboration between Hofbräukeller and GREENFORCE aims to give every guest the freedom to choose whether or not they want meat on their plate. If not, guests can still enjoy the same traditional beer garden atmosphere by ordering GREENFORCE delicacies. All GREENFORCE dishes are clearly marked with a "Vegan" symbol on the Hofbräukeller menu, making them easy to identify.
My clear conclusion: Thumbs up – twice over! Once for the delicious treats and the GREENFORCE concept, and another time for this innovative step by the Hofbräukeller at Wiener Platz. Definitely stop by and believe me, it's absolutely worth it to broaden your horizons and order the new vegan beer garden delicacies from GREENFORCE, now available at the Hofbräukeller. You'll be amazed at how incredibly good a plant-based diet can be – either completely or just occasionally.
My additional tip: If you still have a little room afterwards, I highly recommend ordering the Kaiserschmarrn from the Hofbräukeller beer garden. It might put all the calories you saved with the vegan GREENFORCE selection right back on your hips, but you're not exactly on a diet in a beer garden anyway. 😉
Be sure to stop by and let me know what you think of the vegan beer garden highlights. Thanks again to Silja Steinberg and Thomas Isermann for this successful tasting.
