IL RUSCELLO – Il Ruscello is a classic Italian restaurant located on Pfanzeltplatz in Altperlach. While not exactly centrally located, it's easily accessible by bus. Parking is generally not a problem in this area. For a long time, Il Ruscello was my companion's and my go-to Italian restaurant, and we spent many pleasant evenings there enjoying pizzas, pasta dishes, or even fresh mushroom risotto or fish – even if the ambiance is a bit dated, the clientele is mostly 45-50+, and the waiters are even older. 😉
Il Ruscello offers a typical Italian standard menu, a takeaway menu, and a specials menu featuring dishes such as tagliolini with truffle cream, fresh fish, and various meat specialties. Lunch menus are available from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, with pizzas and pasta dishes for €5.50 and meat and fish dishes for approximately €8.50 on average. The standard menu includes familiar dishes like antipasti, soup, pizzas, fish (king prawns, salmon, fish platters, etc.), meat and pasta dishes, salads (tuna salad, Greek salad, tomato salad, etc.), and cheese or sweet desserts (vanilla ice cream, tiramisu, various sundaes, etc.). In addition, there are numerous diverse and well-balanced dishes displayed on a large green chalkboard, which is passed from table to table. I usually order either Tagliatelle Emiliana (also available without ham!), Pizza Hawaii (very delicious! The pizzas are definitely the best there), or choose something from the specials board (e.g., gnocchi, truffle pasta, fish platter with vegetables, etc.). The pumpkin soup is also very tasty – but it's not a regular item on the menu.
The food was always good, actually. However, we ultimately decided against eating there again because I ordered pasta (Tagliatelle Emiliana) twice, which was completely inedible and had a very strange, oily aftertaste. The waiter informed us that the chef had changed, but didn't replace my pasta despite my complaint. On our next visit, we gave the restaurant another chance with the same dish – unfortunately, with the same problem. Pizzas, risotto, and fish dishes were always excellent, but the pasta didn't taste very good on our last few visits. That was quite a while ago. As mentioned, the food was generally always edible; we never had a negative experience with the pizzas or any other dishes.
The service at Il Ruscello is fine. There are quite a few slightly older waiters, all with a lovely traditional Tuscan or Sicilian background, but they do so with that typical Italian charm and ease :-). I've been there so often with my companion that we usually always get a table, even if it seems quite full at first glance. The staff always tries their best to find you a comfortable spot. (Reservations might be a good idea on weekends!)
The restaurant has approximately 15-18 tables, as well as a larger outdoor area where you can comfortably dine under parasols in the summer. The ambiance at Il Ruscello features dark parquet flooring, dark furniture, white tablecloths, dark, somewhat uninviting wooden walls, a small bar in the back, and slightly kitschy, "dusty" decorative elements on the windowsills and in the corners. While it's certainly comfortable, there are far hipper, more stylish, and more modern Italian restaurants in Munich. We rarely stayed much longer than for our meal and perhaps a dessert or a drink afterward. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of a moderately elegant apartment building and therefore appears rather inconspicuous and not very inviting from the outside. There's also a bowling alley in the basement – food can be ordered downstairs as well.
Il Ruscello is open from 11:30 am to 3 pm and from 5:30 pm to 11 pm, but we only went there for dinner. Card payments are accepted. Most dishes can also be pre-ordered by phone and picked up for takeout – we ordered pizza twice, which was quick and delicious. They are happy to accommodate requests for different toppings on the pizzas.
If you're ever in that area, give it a try. Maybe not the pasta, although our negative experience was quite a while ago. Have fun testing it out and good luck! 🙂
