L'Adresse 37 – modern French cuisine with open studio kitchen I admit, sometimes I sit with my fingers still on the keyboard in front of my laptop, unsure where to begin. That's how it was with L'Adresse, because I took home so many impressions that are now difficult to put into words. L'Adresse was located in Haidhausen for 10 years – I already knew it from there – and had to leave "Haidhauser Feld" due to a small twist of fate. Since the end of October 2016, it has truly shone in new splendor, with a new concept. The name has remained the same – L'Adresse 37 – Bistro néo français. In my opinion, the restaurant/bistro itself has gained even more charm with the change of location and concept. Now, after my visit, to cut to the chase: L'Adresse 37 – a must for anyone who enjoys good food. And preferably without any fuss or stiff etiquette, but still with the certainty of a successful and special culinary evening ahead. So, what can you expect at the bistro?

L 'Address 37 – Arrival and Ambiance

A table for two at „L’Adresse 37“

I walked in and was immediately greeted warmly and kindly. It wasn't long before Loic, the owner and operator of L'Adresse, approached me with a smile, shook my hand, and asked me to choose a table. A quick glance around the room made it clear: I was more in the mood for watching than sitting quietly in a secluded corner, so I chose a cozy corner table overlooking the open kitchen, which is prominently located right in the middle of the restaurant. At L'Adresse, depending on the table, you can practically look into the pots and directly at the chef's hands at work. You can hear the knives slicing, the sizzle in the pots, and smell the freshness of the ingredients even before they're cooked. Being closer to the action is also part of the L'Adresse concept. So, if you enjoy watching your food being prepared, you're welcome to take a seat near the kitchen.

In my opinion, this fact best conveys what L'Adresse stands for: openness, transparency, a relaxed approach to guests, and a slightly different style in every way. When I sat down to wait for my companion, the menu was presented immediately. Nothing unusual there, but being handed a crumpled sheet of A3 paper—you wouldn't necessarily guess it's the menu, would you? But it is, and at the same time, you get a wonderfully refreshing sense that things are a little different at the table at L'Adresse.

The open-plan studio kitchen. Cool, right?

Speaking of tables, there are about 23 of them at L'Adresse, seating approximately 40-50 people. In addition, there are – in my opinion, some of the coolest spots – 3 or 4 seats at the bar, which are more like a "VIP ticket" with a view into the kitchen, as you sit at the spacious serving hatch that connects the stove and kitchen, the chef and the restaurant, and the service and guests. This summer, L'Adresse's first summer on Tulbeckstrasse, will also feature a cozy terrace in the courtyard. I've had a quick look and I'm sure it's going to be fantastic.

Otherwise, L'Adresse blends New York flair with a cozy, modern ambiance: wooden tables, some bare concrete walls, but also striking wallpaper. Simplicity, yet meticulously thought out down to the last detail. In short, a place to feel at ease. A successful mix of chic, relaxed, hip, and comfortable. You lean back, shed your jacket and any tension, and suddenly feel like you're among friends. Loic's occasional jokes at the table amused me all the more, and feeling completely at ease is simply impossible. Completely unconsciously and automatically, the classic German "number one cliché" about French restaurants falls by the wayside: "Stiff, uptight, overpriced, and always the same at French restaurants." That's absolutely not the case at L'Adresse. Enough talk, now let's take a look at the menu...

This is how the menu gets to the table.

Food offer and selection

The menu at L'Adresse is the first thing that makes it clear you've stumbled upon a special place. But don't mistake that for a lack of quality or expertise. The dishes are perfectly coordinated, delicious, and a modern-classic combination. L'Adresse demonstrates that with excellent cuisine and high-quality ingredients, you can also offer something a little more unusual. They offer appetizers ("Les Entrees"), main courses ("Les Plats"), and desserts ("Les Desserts") – clearly arranged and handwritten on the front of the paper menu. On the back, you'll find white wines (0.75l from €28), red wines (0.75l from €29), and rosé (0.75l from €29). There's also a separate drinks menu, which includes wines by the glass, often available upon request. The standard menu changes every three to four weeks, with only a few items remaining permanently. The menu also features classic French dishes, such as six oysters with pomegranate and coriander (starter for €21) or the "Fondant de Boeuf" (main course for €22) chosen by my companion. The focus is always on high quality, seasonality, and, wherever possible, regional sourcing. Six different starters and main courses, as well as five different desserts, are available. Two-, three-, or four-course set menus are also offered for €31, €41, or €51, with the two-course menu consisting of a main course and either a starter or dessert, and the three- or four-course menus comprising one or two starters plus a main course and dessert. The complete menu isn't available online; only excerpts are shown to whet the appetite. On the day of my visit, the brand-new menu arrived fresh and ready to serve. I opted for a set menu, meaning my companion and I each chose a different appetizer, two main courses, and then a dessert. Let me tell you more about my choices in my review.

Personal review
Let me get straight to the point: You won't find a better sea bass tartare in the city. Maybe one that's just as good, but even that I doubt. At L'Adresse, it's served with raspberry and tarragon as a starter (for €15). Anyone thinking "steep price" should reconsider after the first bite, or perhaps consider the quality of the ingredients, or even take a peek into the kitchen. Honestly, when do you ever actually let out a truly convincing "mmmmmh!" in a restaurant? – Not often, right? The sea bass was seasoned with incredibly fresh ingredients and, combined with the sweetness of the little raspberry pieces, simply unbeatable. My companion started with the veal tartare with quail egg and truffle (for €19). I sampled a little with my fork and didn't find the relatively coarsely ground steak tartare bad, though I could only taste a hint of truffle (…which, however, was intentional, as we had inquired, so as not to overpower the flavor of the veal). The appetizer plates were quickly emptied, and after a short break, we continued with the aforementioned "Fondant De Boeuf" with chocolate red wine sauce for my companion and the "Surprise from the Market" for myself (each €22). This surprise dish is always on the menu and offers a new and exciting change from the kitchen. On our visit, I had the venison, which is also available as a separate main course but with different side dishes, served with potato wedges, beetroot, and spinach. The meat – on both plates – was top-notch. Superb quality, cooked to perfection, and incredibly tender. The side dishes harmonized beautifully and didn't compete with each other. The chocolate and red wine sauce also did its job, allowing both flavor components to shine through without overwhelming the palate. The portions are neither too small nor overwhelming, but you'll definitely leave L'Adresse satisfied. "There's always room for sugar." My companion and I ordered a crème brûlée with Baileys, a praline, and pain d'épice (€9) and a heart-shaped chocolate cake with a soft center and strawberry compote (also €9). Personally, I always need a bit of texture in my dessert; I don't like it too creamy or runny. So, I was the bigger fan of the incredibly delicious chocolate cake, but I also enjoyed the crème brûlée.

Facts and information

Fish and other meat dishes, as well as vegetarian appetizers, main courses, and desserts, are always available. Beforehand, freshly baked rolls with two pats of butter are always served to every guest. Don't miss the aperitif or the recommended pre-dinner drink! We're also happy to offer personalized wine recommendations once you've chosen your dishes. Alternatively, you're welcome to just stop by for a glass of wine. L'Adresse aims to be a venue for every occasion and can also be rented for events, private parties, corporate functions, and more. From my conversation with Loic, I know that some exciting developments are in store. Starting with the summer terrace opening soon, the introduction of lunch menus, and much more, you can expect some real highlights. So do yourself, your stomach (and me!) a favor and add L'Adresse to your list for your next relaxing and delicious evening. It's worth stopping by and you'll surely fall in love with L'Adresse, the team and Loic himself just as quickly as I did.
