Mangostin in Munich is a rather upscale Asian restaurant located on Maria-Einsiedel-Straße in the Thalkirchen district. A few months ago, I visited it for the second time with a companion, and we were very satisfied. Since it was still summery at the time, we opted for a nice table in Mangostin's expansive outdoor area. This is divided into the restaurant's terrace and a huge seating area—similar to a chic beer garden with Rattan furniture, stylish lighting, a great bar, enormous trees, and so on. We sat on the corner terrace, directly adjacent to the restaurant.
The atmosphere at Mangostin is very pleasant, thanks to its friendly and warm ambiance. There's a lot of red, marble, Asian paintings, flowers, dark furniture, and a clever division of the dining area into different rooms with various names, such as Lemon Grass, Papa Joe's Bar, Papa Joe's Restaurant, Pacific Rooms, and Mangostin Gardens. Each individual room, or rather each area, at Mangostin is exceptionally chic and elegantly designed, allowing you to feel comfortable and relaxed while enjoying your meal.
Mangostin offers a variety of menus: the regular menu – from which we chose – an afternoon menu, a sushi menu, a beer garden menu, a wine/bar menu, and a takeaway menu. Our server, while very friendly, came across as extremely artificial and insincere (she smiled at us the whole time with an absolutely exaggerated and huge grin, then turned around, and we could see the corners of her mouth immediately drooping – that of an annoyed, tense waitress), also told us that they always have a brunch on Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm for €65 (yes, €65!) – €27 per person for children up to 12 years old – which is always incredibly popular. I wouldn't recommend just dropping by. In addition, there's a business brunch offered during the week – also from 11 am to 3 pm – for €25.50 per person, featuring a soup station, various appetizers, curries, stir-fries, fruit, and sophisticated desserts. Ultimately, it's up to each individual to decide whether they're willing to pay this amount for their lunch.
Back to our visit: After being seated and presented with the menus upon arrival, we immediately decided on two appetizers and two main courses, as well as a dessert for me to finish. We chose Geang Keow – green vegetable curry for €13.50, Sen Lek Pat Thai – rice noodles with shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts, peanuts, and sweet and sour sauce for €17.50, Panko Shrimp – fried shrimp in a crispy panko coating for €14, Poh Piard Thord – crispy fried spring rolls with mango-chili dip for €9.50, and to finish, a selection of Thai fruits – papaya, mango, passion fruit, and phyllo dough flute for €10. Whether the prices are justified is difficult to judge, but I would say: Yes, absolutely. The portions were ample, the taste of every single dish was excellent and had that certain something extra that you don't find at every Chinese takeaway on the corner. The shrimp skewers were tender, the breading very crispy and perfectly suited to the shrimp. The spring rolls were simple, but delicious with the accompanying dipping sauce. There was so much Pad Thai that my companion, as usual, had to eat the leftovers. 
All in all, a really great Asian restaurant that's well worth a visit. I would definitely recommend making a reservation – even on weekday evenings – as it's very well-known and popular. Card payments are of course accepted at Mangostin. We paid €90 for the above-mentioned dishes, including a water and a Hugo cocktail.
