The Sushi Cent in Haidhausen – not far from Prinzregentenplatz – is rather inconspicuous and not easy to find, as it is located in the middle of a residential street and does not stand out from the outside with colorful lettering, lamps or tables on the streets.
I first became aware of it because I used to regularly get miso soup there for lunch. Recently, I went there with a companion for dinner. Getting there by car is usually no problem, as Sushi Cent is located on a residential street, as mentioned. Public transport is recommended via subway line 4 – Prinzregentenplatz station.
The ambiance at Sushi Cent is very pleasant, and I happily lingered a while after finishing my meal. There are real plants everywhere, such as huge, blooming orchids, and large pictures on the walls (which are available for purchase). The tables are dark with candles, the lighting is pleasant, and the tables aren't too close together. The Japanese staff gave us a very friendly welcome. We sat at a small table for two right by the entrance of the relatively small restaurant – which has about 15 tables.
We ordered vegetarian spring rolls as an appetizer. These were brought to our table by a friendly waitress immediately after we ordered drinks. I ordered various sushi rolls with seared salmon, avocado, spinach, cucumber, cream cheese, etc. In total, I had 18 sushi rolls. The sushi arrived relatively quickly after the appetizer plate was cleared. My companion ordered grilled salmon with rice and sauce at the same time. Unfortunately, it didn't arrive until long after I had finished eating, so we both ended up sitting at the same table, but essentially alone, which wasn't ideal. The food itself tasted excellent. There was nothing to complain about – the sushi was fresh, perfectly rolled, and very flavorful due to the generous filling.
Overall, Sushi Cent offers everything you would expect from a Japanese restaurant and impresses with its extensive selection. Evening menu. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and although the delay with the second main course slightly detracted from the relaxed atmosphere of the evening, I would definitely go back to Sushi Cent. It's very pleasant that the restaurant isn't immediately conspicuous, unlike restaurants in the city center or on Leopoldstrasse. We didn't make a reservation but went there spontaneously on a Friday evening – there were still about two or three empty tables in the restaurant.
We paid a total of 35 euros including tip for two main courses, an appetizer, and two juice spritzers (the lychee juice spritzer was delicious – definitely try it!). Card payments are accepted – rather unusual for Asian restaurants, as we've noticed in recent weeks.
I'll be back: Yes, despite the long wait for my companion's food.
