Together with nine other fantastic Italian restaurants in Munich, Primafila is one of ten Italian restaurants in the city that have joined forces to form the association "My Favorite Italian Restaurant." This is because they all offer excellent Italian food in a wonderful atmosphere with fantastic service. In this special feature, I'll introduce you to all ten restaurants after I've tried and eaten at each one. At the end, you can see for yourself and find your very own favorite Italian restaurant – hence "My Favorite Italian Restaurant." Number one is Primafila.
Primafila is an Italian restaurant in Nymphenburg, near Nymphenburg Palace Park. The restaurant is located a little further out, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, the hectic pace of everyday life, and a generally restless atmosphere. Its spacious terrace borders a sports field, which is screened off by a privacy screen. Complete tranquility, a cozy ambiance, sunshine at the outdoor tables, and attentive service are all part of the experience, in addition to the delicious food. During our visit, the weather was sunny and pleasant, so we sat outside. We were immediately greeted warmly and welcomed. We were then allowed to choose our own table and opted for a comfortable table for two right by the restaurant's glass front.
The inviting terrace seats approximately 120 people – during our visit, almost every table was occupied. Of course, I also took a look inside the restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised. Inside Primafila, there are numerous additional tables and a lounge area – separate and conveniently located near the prominent bar. The rooms are bright and welcoming. There's also a covered pavilion area for private parties and gatherings. Primafila is yet another one of those restaurants where you're happy to linger a little longer and enjoy an extra drink or two, simply because it's so cozy and inviting.
Well… I was back from my exploration of the restaurant, and the menus were already on my companion's table. There's the standard menu and a large, handwritten chalkboard with additional, rotating dishes. The menu is extensive and offers something for everyone. My companion and I chose two delicious starters, two main courses, and a dessert to share. For starters, we had the vitello tonnato (€10.50) and a delicious spinach soup with Parmesan (€4.30). The soup with fresh spinach and cheese sounded like a "slightly different" starter to me, so I went for it. When both arrived at our table, we were very pleased. Both were attractively presented, quite large and fairly portioned for starters, and delicious. My companion's vitello tonnato was very fresh and moist. My soup was an interesting combination – you can order both. To start, besides our Coke (€2.20/0.2l) and still water (€2.10/0.25l), we both opted for a refreshing glass of white wine. My companion chose a Lugana, and I selected the Gavi di Gavi (I love this wine!) (€4.20/0.1l each). You absolutely must try the Gavi di Gavi – it's fantastic with fish.
When it came to the main courses, the saying "So many choices, so much to decide!" definitely applied. It took me a while to make up my mind, and I finally chose the sea bream fillet with spinach and chanterelles (€22.50). My companion opted for the grilled lamb chop with rosemary potatoes (€17.90). While we waited, we were brought a bread basket filled with fluffy, soft bread. I don't know about you, but when I get a bread basket at an Italian restaurant, and the bread is already this good, I always look forward to my main course even more. And that was certainly the case here, because when our main courses arrived at the same time, I could see at a glance: Good! 🙂 And that's exactly what it was. The fish was incredibly tender, the spinach perfectly seasoned, and my chanterelles were divine. Truly delicious and worth every penny. For me, it usually starts around €20 that I start to wonder, "What justifies the price of this meal?" Of course, the price is often justified by the high quality of the ingredients. This is definitely the case at Primafila. The same goes for my companion's lamb chop. Very tender, and with the side vegetables and potatoes, definitely a dish you'd want to eat again. Truly excellent.
I also appreciated the consistently friendly service from all the waiters. Even at the next table, where there were some children, the waiters joked with them while serving and were in good spirits. Furthermore, at another table, the fish was filleted exceptionally professionally and attractively right in front of the guests. I simply love good service, even though you'd expect it in a restaurant, but it's not always the case. 🙂 At Primafila, definitely: thumbs up.
My companion couldn't resist the dessert menu and opted – quite classically – for a tiramisu (€5.80) and was delighted. Admittedly, tiramisu isn't usually my thing, but the waiter was so attentive and automatically brought two forks. Tiramisu is definitely my cup of tea. 😉 Absolutely delicious. Not as creamy and "greasy" as I've unfortunately often been served. I think you can already see from the photo (see gallery below) that the tiramisu (and all the other dishes) were truly excellent, and Primafila definitely deserves a place among my "favorite Italian" restaurants.
If you'd like to enjoy Italian food away from the city center, but still in a cozy and relatively central location, I highly recommend Primafila. If you prefer to sit outside on warmer days, it's best to reserve a table. You can pay in cash or by card. Parking is absolutely no problem – there are parking spaces right in front of the restaurant. Primafila also happily organizes private events. I haven't experienced it myself, but I can certainly imagine it's a fantastic place to celebrate. A projector, stage, mixing console, and winner's podium are all available, as well as excellent Italian food prepared to your specifications.
I'll be back: Yes. The food tasted very good, the service was excellent, and I went home satisfied and full.
