Recently at Speisemeisterei La Trattoria in Pasing. I was there partly because it's the 7th of a total of 10 Italian restaurants that I'm testing for you under the heading "My Favorite Italian Restaurant" in Munich. Three more to go, and I've already tried the... Primafila, the Trattoria Lindengarten, the Romans, the Il Mulino, the La Piazza and that Menzingers. Now, more details about Speisemeisterei. This cozy restaurant is located in Pasing and, like all the Italian restaurants mentioned above, offers incredibly delicious and authentic Italian cuisine.
As you can see from the gallery, my companion and I treated ourselves to a lovely meal. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman who asked about our reservation. We were then shown to a cozy corner table with a view of the entire restaurant. When we arrived, many tables were occupied, and this remained the case throughout the evening. Speisemeisterei – La Trattoria is clearly one of the more well-known Italian restaurants in the Munich area. Inside, it's cozy, with lots of dark wood, a dark bar with some seating, parquet flooring, light wood tables, a suspended and subtly lit ceiling, many playful details on the windowsills, numerous pictures on the walls, red and white checkered curtains, and overall a very inviting atmosphere. The restaurant has approximately 20 tables inside, accommodating around 80 guests. Outside, there are another 65 tables, seating approximately 190 hungry people.
As soon as we were seated, we were offered a delicious aperitif, or rather, we both opted for a Hugo (€5.20 each) and a bottle of still water. The Hugo was very tasty, not too sweet, and had just the right amount of elderflower syrup. When we were given the menus, the friendly waiter assigned to our table pointed out the additional specials. These were displayed on a handwritten slate board on the wall and offered two starters, two main courses, and two desserts. Before we ordered, we received a basket with three kinds of fresh bread (very soft and fluffy, just the way I like it) and were informed which dishes were already sold out and therefore no longer available. After browsing for a while, we decided on a fish soup (€14.80) with plenty of garnish (best seen in the photos) and Caprese salad, which is tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella (€11.50). Alongside this, we also ordered... We also ordered our main courses. My companion chose veal cutlet with porcini mushrooms, roasted potatoes, and vegetables (€24.90), and I opted for pike-perch fillet on Hokkaido pumpkin cream, roasted leeks, and spinach (€21.90). Before I go into detail about the dishes, I should mention that we were then served a large "Speisemeisterei Dessert Selection" (€8.20) to finish, which included tiramisu, profiteroles, parfait, cream puffs, and more. Incredibly delicious and a true delight for the palate – you completely forget about counting calories.
Now for the dishes: The buffalo mozzarella was delicious and perfectly portioned for an appetizer. I actually only like buffalo mozzarella, even though it's naturally a bit more expensive than the usual cow's milk mozzarella. My companion's fish soup was superb. I haven't had so much fish in a soup since Mallorca, where the fish practically jumps from the sea to the plate. Incredibly delicious and refined. The soup itself doesn't taste fishy. This varies from restaurant to restaurant. Some have very few fish pieces and a very fishy soup, while other restaurants make a relatively simple broth and enrich it with various seafood and fish. I like both, and the fish soup from Speisemeisterei is definitely worth almost €15. It's not exactly cheap, of course, but extremely filling, so I'd say if you're not too hungry, it's even enough as a main course. The appetizer was top quality, and I didn't just stop at a "tasting spoonful"—I practically swiped half of my companion's. The main courses were just as excellent. My companion's cutlet was tender, the side dish attractively presented and plentiful. In general, all the portions were very generous. The next table, whose occupants changed twice during the evening, opted for pizza and pasta, and both looked delicious. They were even packed up to take away for those who couldn't finish their meals. I was also very happy with my fish. While it was prepared a bit more oily here—as was the case at "Menzinger's," a restaurant I visited a while ago—it was still very tasty. I especially enjoyed the combination of pumpkin, spinach, and fish. So, you can definitely order any of it again. The same goes for the huge, incredibly healthy 😉 dessert selection.
All in all, there's nothing to dissuade you from visiting Speisemeisterei. Quite the opposite, in fact. The spacious terrace, the small playground area, the exceptionally friendly and attentive service, and the cozy, Italian-inspired ambiance all speak in its favor. This is the perfect place if you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, like to spend time together, and want to be served delicious, authentic food. While it can get a bit noisy when the restaurant is full, it's still quiet enough for comfortable conversation, so you won't find an uncomfortable or tense atmosphere. Speisemeisterei has been around since 1999 and has become an increasingly popular restaurant. It's no wonder that numerous regulars return time and again to enjoy the various lunch specials and set menus (Monday to Friday, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM). According to a friendly waiter, the spaghetti scampi is particularly popular. I'll have to try it soon. The specials at Speisemeisterei change three times a week, in addition to a weekly menu and of course a standard menu. The selection of dishes is therefore extensive and varied.
The restaurant is open daily from 11:30 am to midnight, with hot food served from noon to 10:00 pm. Card payments are accepted, and parking is readily available. For those of you without a car, you can also reach Speisemeisterei by bus and train. Besides dine-in, you can pre-order and take away anything you don't quite finish – from pizza to pasta. Even though it's not centrally located, you should definitely try this restaurant. I was thrilled; I loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff. If you're ever looking for a place to eat, keep me and Speisemeisterei in mind.
I'll be back: Yes.
