Hotel Schloss Lebenberg in Kitzbühel

The over 400-year-old Hotel Schloss Lebenberg is one of 25 hotels belonging to the Austrian "Austria Trend" hotel group. With its breathtaking views over Kitzbühel, including the Hahnenkamm mountain, its 46-meter-long panoramic pool, and its excellent culinary offerings, it is one of Kitzbühel's premier destinations. The hotel's unique event program provides an additional layer of variety. Featuring 150 rooms in seven different categories (Lebenberg, Castle, and Panorama rooms, as well as Maisonette, Junior, Duplex, and Lebenberg Suites), the hotel boasts an impressive history. For example, the listed castle tower – now housing 11 hotel rooms – has existed since the founding of Kitzbühel around 1448. The property has operated as a hotel since 1964, and in 2008 it underwent a complete modernization and renovation. With its open-plan lobby, cozy bar area, view of one of the two hotel restaurants ("Das Residenz"), and inviting entrance, Hotel Schloss Lebenberg impresses from the moment you step inside. A comfortable ambiance and harmonious atmosphere prevail. The rooms (I had the opportunity to see several) are also comfortably furnished and blend seamlessly with the Kitzbühel mountain setting, adding just the right touch of chic. Besides the location and the view, what I found particularly appealing was the wellness and fitness area. Open from 7 a.m., you can swim in an incomparably beautiful pool that measures a full 46 meters in length. The fitness room is also superbly equipped. Of course, the hotel also offers a wide range of spa and beauty treatments. The hotel also features a ski equipment shop ("elements3") where hotel guests can rent or purchase equipment for their winter sports activities on the mountain at any time.

The culinary offerings

Clearly, anyone who goes skiing wants to be on the mountain early, and therefore also wants to fuel up early with a hearty breakfast. That's why breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. At the same time, late risers are also catered for, so the first meal of the day is available until 10:30 a.m. daily. This is served in the "Residenz" restaurant, which is also where half-board guests enjoy their set six-course dinner. Those looking for a change of pace can choose to dine at the hotel's second restaurant, "Das Lambergs." While the Residenz can accommodate up to 130 people for the dinner menu (from 6:30 p.m.), the gallery restaurant "Das Lambergs," with its motto "dining like royalty," offers a fantastic and varied à la carte menu for just 24 guests from Tuesday to Saturday, starting at 6:00 p.m. The lobby, mentioned earlier, also offers a bar menu with additional dishes and delicacies from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM. A small snack menu, including pizza, is available late into the evening and at night. Therefore, food can be ordered or enjoyed in the hotel's restaurants around the clock, 24/7. The culinary delights and menus are overseen, prepared, and served by Marcel Dornheim – head chef and leader of the 24-person kitchen team. More about the cuisine, the philosophy of the 30-year-old head chef, the different menus and à la carte dishes, as well as the delicious breakfast buffet, can be found in the second article, which will follow soon.

Interesting facts

Since December 2019, exciting and varied events have been taking place monthly at Hotel Schloss Lebenberg, sure to delight any culinary enthusiast. As mentioned above, the series kicks off in January 2020 with "Kitzbühel meets Prague," followed in February by a presentation of the Artner winery from Burgenland/Carnuntum, complete with a tasting menu. March will feature an event focusing on a Tyrolean cheese menu. The hotel also offers the possibility of hosting private parties, celebrations, and events (for 20 to approximately 50 people). Various halls, cozy rooms, and a light-filled winter garden are available. So, if you're looking for the perfect venue, simply inquire on-site or by phone. Seminar rooms are also available. Free Wi-Fi is, of course, provided throughout the hotel.

Also exciting: Starting in May, not only will the summer BBQ event series begin, promising a comprehensive summer BBQ with a smoker, drinks, and plenty of sunshine (for approximately 35 guests; €42 per person – more details coming soon), but also another exciting project. From May 2020, Hotel Schloss Lebenberg will have its own beehives and will produce its own honey for the kitchen and breakfast buffet. Cool, right?

If you're planning to book, which I highly recommend, be aware that December, September, October, February, and August are the busiest months for the hotel. Since the hotel also hosts many regular guests who have been returning for over 30 years, it's important to book quickly for certain periods and events – especially if you're planning a more independent trip and want to book for a long weekend including wellness and skiing. Your four-legged friends are welcome; you can also purchase souvenirs like jams, sauces, and preserves in jars at the hotel. Otherwise, it's up to you to explore, discover, and sample everything.

My personal opinion

Let me say right away: I would come back anytime and, after my first visit, I'm even more excited to be part of the hotel's first event of 2020 on January 17th. The hotel is fantastic! Firstly, because of its prime location, and secondly, because of the extensive wellness, fitness, and relaxation areas. I also really like the overall layout of the hotel and the fact that the lobby, connected to the hotel bar, is a great place to relax and unwind – perfect for a day off from the slopes and nightlife. Kitzbühel itself, of course, offers countless other experiences as a town. I'm so glad I had the chance to get to know the hotel. Look forward to my next article and my culinary experiences at Hotel Schloss Lebenberg.
