The ribeye steak in the signature cut

El Gaucho Munich | Best steaks at the Viktualienmarkt Few people know that for quite some time I didn't eat any meat at all, let alone a juicy steak. Not necessarily out of some particular conviction, but simply because I never missed eating meat. Now, a few years later, that has changed. My motto remains: everyone should eat what tastes good. However, when I'm at one of my now absolute favorite places for a really good piece of meat, I realize once again what every vegetarian is missing. El Gaucho, with its Austrian roots, is the answer for anyone who likes to treat themselves to good food in the form of juicy steaks, rare special cuts, and the like, along with high-quality and varied side dishes. Come on, let's go eat steaks!

El Gaucho Munich at the Viktualienmarkt

El Gaucho Munich has been operating as a restaurant for several years now. the Known as the ultimate destination for top-quality steaks. Unlike usual, I want to impress you first with visuals, rather than too many words. Get to know the "El Gaucho feeling" and the philosophy of the now six El Gaucho restaurants in Austria and Germany through a short video from the restaurant itself.

Doesn't that make you want more? And I can tell you that a visit to this chic steakhouse, complete with a spacious terrace and live cooking station, is well worth it. The quality of the food, the ambiance, the wine and drink selection, and the service are all simply superb. I've eaten at this Munich hotspot about six or seven times now and haven't had a single bad or even just average meal. The meat is always top quality, the side dishes—unlike in other steakhouses—are creatively and varied, and there's far more on offer than just fries, fried potatoes, or maybe some fresh vegetables. The steakhouse impresses with various signature cuts, as well as with dry-aged beef variations or even a tomahawk steak from Duroc pork (approx. 750 grams of herb-cured pork from the smokehouse for €33—see details below). 1. Food offer and selection

To thoroughly test the restaurant, my companion and I went to the centrally located steakhouse in the evening, very hungry and no less excited.

To start, we sampled various appetizers and chose, in addition to the classic "Premium Beef Tartare" with butter, onions, and capers (€17 | also available with prawns for €18 or truffle butter and foie gras for €21), the "Canned Tuna" with sashimi-grade tuna, avocado, and lobster chips (€19), and – in my opinion, the highlight of the appetizers – the smoked scallop with eggplant, zucchini, sheep's milk cheese, and toasted sesame seeds (€19). Even before the first bite, both the plating and the presentation at the table reveal what awaits you as a guest throughout the evening. Top quality, creative interpretation of exciting combinations, and perfectly cooked dishes – at least that was the case during my visits. The best example: the smoked scallop, which is smoked under a glass dome and then "aired" at the table (see video). Amazing, right? Even the "canned tuna" turns out to be a true delicacy, its freshness immediately whetting the appetite for the main courses to follow. The tartare demonstrates that skillful handling of meat is a given at El Gaucho, and it too impresses with its fine texture and excellent quality. This is combined with fresh bread, butter specially whipped for El Gaucho Munich, and the different types of pepper (see more details below). here) a very successful start.

The appetizers were accompanied by three fantastic starters or aperitifs – a Gin Basil Smash, a Blackberry Mojito, and a Chili Mai Tai. Absolutely delicious! Be sure to ask for the bar menu – it's truly impressive and demonstrates that El Gaucho Munich is also ideal as a bar or for a nightcap, and the place to be for good wine, classic cocktails, or signature drinks. Take a look at the extensive wine list and see for yourself whether you'd like to pair your steak with one of their selections. They offer white and red wines from Austria and Germany, Italy and France, as well as a few wines from Chile, Australia, and Spain. If you simply want to enjoy good steaks with equally good wine but aren't sure what to pair them with, just ask the restaurant's highly skilled and knowledgeable sommelier for advice. See for yourselves: That evening, our group enjoyed a fantastic 2016 yellow Muscatel "Labitschberg" from the Tement winery in Southern Styria and the El Gaucho house wine, a 2016 Grüner Veltliner "Federspiel" from Domäne Wachau. For me, a good wine is simply essential to a proper meal and the right atmosphere. So don't miss out!.

Doesn't that look good?

Speaking of food…of course, after the appetizers we continued with the top-class fare of El Gaucho Munich: steaks, signature cuts, dry-aged beef, and much, much more. We were served various types of meat, which were presented to us in their raw state. in the form of a display case The menu was presented to us by the waiter at our table. We ultimately decided on a classic filet ("Bife de Lomo – Filet Steak," 250 grams for €32), a rump steak in the "Corona Cut" (600 grams for €56) – topped with a king prawn (€7), and a rib-eye steak "Tira de Ancho" – also a signature cut (600 grams for €53). Plenty of really good meat, then, which we enjoyed accompanied by a variety of refined side dishes. The well-organized and clearly laid-out menu offered 12 different sides (between €4 and €6) and six different sauces (from €2). We opted for six side dishes, or rather, five side dishes and a salad. From the delicious chorizo and paprika risotto or the mixed vegetables from the wok, to the wild broccoli with brown almond butter or the corn dumplings (my favorite!), to the original steak fries and the classic Caesar salad (from the salads category), everything landed on our table attractively presented and in generous portions.

„"Canned tuna" with a twist.

Last but not least: sugar! In this case, in the form of three sophisticated and exceptionally delicious desserts. My favorite, besides the vanilla crème brûlée with two kinds of apricot, was definitely the "Iced Coconut Flambé with Mango and Pomegranate." The tableside show is a free bonus, as the iced coconut is flambéed and then enjoyed meltingly with the fruit. Also delicious for those with a real sweet tooth: "Baked Mountain Quark with Marinated Wild Berries and Sorbet" (each for €11). So, these desserts are definitely worth indulging in a few extra calories.

You can find the menus, bar, wine and dessert menus there. on-line And so you can choose from home. Personally, however, I find that El Gaucho and a visit there are even more enjoyable if you let yourself be guided and advised through the evening. Listen to the fascinating presentation – if you wish – about the different types of meat, their origins, and preparation methods, get advice on the wines, and don't be afraid to indulge. As a steak lover and true foodie, you certainly can't go wrong when it comes to quality and taste.

Conclusion

It ends as it began: El Gaucho is the answer for every meat lover! Clearly, quality comes at a price, and that's exactly what you pay for at El Gaucho Munich. Whether it's worth it is something you'll have to experience for yourself with a visit, or perhaps trust my judgment. Usually, fully booked tables are a good indicator of the consistently high quality. In addition to the premium ingredients, there's the cozy atmosphere, which—unusually for a classic steakhouse—makes you want to linger for a drink or two after your meal. It's comfortable, stylish, and perfectly complements the delicious food. I'll be back at El Gaucho Munich again and again—whether for a snack and a creative drink, "just" a glass of wine, or a leisurely get-together with friends, steaks, and more.
