Newly opened since the end of June 2021: The Masi Wine Bar Munich

MASI WINE BAR at Campari House – Grand Opening on Maximilianstrasse | Munich boasts a new culinary highlight! At the end of June, the Masi Wine Bar Munich opened in the renowned Campari House on Maximilianstrasse. Masi is not only a leading Amarone producer from Valpolicella in the Lessini Hills north of Verona, but also one of the world's most prestigious producers of premium Italian wines. Now, with the opening of the Masi Wine Bar Munich on Munich's luxury boulevard, the wine producer offers the opportunity to discover exceptional Masi wines paired with exquisite, high-quality dishes in Germany as part of the "Masi Wine Experience.".

Get to know Masi and the Masi Wine Experience

Masi is the leading Amarone producer and has always passionately represented the values of Veneto. Its story began at the end of the 18th century when the Boscaini family started acquiring valuable vineyard sites in the small valley called "Vaio dei Masi" in the heart of the classic Valpolicella wine region – hence the name Masi. Furthermore, Masi develops historic wineries (Valpolicella – estates of the Counts Serego Alighieri; Trentono – the winery of the Counts Bossi Fedrigotti, a premium brand with vineyards in Rovereto; Valdobbiadene Canevel Spumanti – a symbol of the region and its prestigious designation of origin; and the organically farmed estates "Poderi del Bello Ovile" in Tuscany and "Masi Tumpungato" in Argentina).

The aforementioned Masi wineries, together with various Masi Wine Bars, form the "Masi Wine Experience." This includes tours of the Masi winery, visits to the regionally typical restaurants at Tenuta Canova in Lazise del Garda, and a visit to the Masi Wine Discovery Museum there. Also included are visits to the historic 14th-century Serego Alighieri winery, which remains in the direct line of Dante Alighieri's descendants; the Château de Canevel Spumanti in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valdobbiadene; the organic Masi Tupungato winery in Argentina; the Masi Wine Bars in Zurich, Cortina d'Ampezzo, and the new Masi Wine Bar Munich, which I'm presenting here. So, back to Munich. What makes the Masi Wine Bar Munich so special, and why is it worth a visit?

The concept of Masi Wine Bar Munich

The concept of Masi Wine Bar Munich demonstrates that everything here revolves around good wine and harmonious enjoyment. Here, you don't simply go to eat; rather, you select the wine you'd like to taste and discover, and the Masi team recommends a suitable dish to complement it. Therefore, the menu is intentionally concise, as the focus is clearly on the wine. This doesn't mean that there isn't a suitable dish for every palate; on the contrary, the perfect dish will be suggested based on your pre-selected wine choice and/or wine preferences.

Of course, you're also welcome to visit even if you don't know much about Italian wines and Masi is a completely new world to you – your personal Masi Wine Experience will be all the more exciting. You'll be introduced to the different wines, their characteristics, and flavors in a friendly and straightforward manner. If you're completely open to wine, you can also choose a dish from the menu and then simply follow the wine recommendation from the team.

At Masi Wine Bar, everyone is welcome, whether they enjoy drinking wine, want to discover new wines, or are completely new to the world of fine premium wines. Of course, you're also welcome if you simply want to enjoy an authentic Italian breakfast (daily from 8:30 am) and a glass of wine or a snack on the terrace. Masi Wine Bar Munich thus caters to all those enjoyable moments of everyday life that involve culinary delights and pleasure.

Starter for two – The „Aperitifs Experience“ from Masi Wine Bar Munich

Food and wine selection

What's special about the wine list is that all wines can be ordered by the glass. This means you can sample your way through the list without having to order a whole bottle each time – in my opinion, that's the most fun way to enjoy wine tasting. The wine list is divided into the following categories: Sparkling Wine, Rosé Sparkling Wine, White Wines, Rosé Wines, Red Wines, Amaroni Wines, Terregiunte Wines, Dessert Wines, and Grappa. The wines are marked with different symbols – making it easy to see, for example, which wines are produced using Masi's expertise in the Appassimento technique, which wines are made with the ancient Oseleta grape variety, or which wines come from organically farmed vineyards.

Start your stay with a glass of Conte Federico Riserva Brut sparkling wine and pay attention to the label….

In addition to a changing weekly menu, there is a menu with four different appetizers, pasta and risotto dishes, fish and meat dishes. Fresh salads, two different children's dishes, side dishes for meat and fish, and homemade desserts are also part of the two-page menu. Each dish is paired with a suitable wine, such as the appetizer "Goat's Cheese Panna Cotta with Cherry Tomatoes and Crispy Basil" with a "Campofalco, Vign'asmara" by the glass, "Black Tortelli filled with Salmon in Moxxé Sauce, Bottarga and Grated Egg" with "Moxxé, Freso di Masi Bianco", or "Lamb Chop in Vaio Armaron and Honey, Ricotta, Pecorino Cheese and Seasonal Vegetables", which goes very well with a Toar, Vaio Armaron. The menu lists three different wine alternatives to accompany the desserts (tiramisu, chocolate cake, pistachio crème brûlée, fresh fruit salad), one of which I was also able to try.

The menu also includes various aperitifs, beers, soft drinks, coffee drinks, after-dinner drinks, and spirits. It's best to take a look for yourself. Menu and wine list of Masi Wine Bar Munich and stimulates the taste buds and anticipation.

The finest culinary delights on your plate and in your glass at Masi Wine Bar Munich

My visit to the site

My companion and I had been looking forward to our weekend visit to the newly opened Masi Wine Bar in Munich all week. When we received a warm welcome from Oscar Zorzetto and his team (thank you again!), our anticipation grew even more. After arriving, getting settled in, and taking our seats, the Masi Wine Bar concept, described above, was explained to us again at our table as part of the "Masi Wine Experience"—in other words, "Wine First!".

Our stay began with a promising glass of 2016 Conte Federico Riserva Brut sparkling wine, which can easily rival any Champagne in taste. Not only is this sparkling wine a true champion with its lively bubbles, but the label, with its color-changing ornaments corresponding to the wine's temperature, is also a genuine innovation – experience it for yourself! With our glass, we enjoyed both the amuse-bouche – five small pastry baskets filled with different creams and toppings – and the appetizer. The "Aperitifs Experience" starter is designed for two people and consists of "rice balls with Amarone Costasera wine and Monte Veronese cheese," "filled Campofiorin wine pastry tortelli with ricotta cheese," and "filled paccheri pasta with capers and anchovies." A truly delicious start. I personally enjoyed the Amarone rice balls and the pastry tortelli the most.

Risotto with Amarone Costasera wine and Monte Veronese cheese, accompanied by Masi Campofiorin in a glass

After being served a true Masi classic – a Masi Campofiorin made from Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes – the culinary highlight continued on the plate. We enjoyed a wonderfully creamy risotto with the excellent red wine, the best I've had in Munich. Beautifully moist, with a perfect bite and outstanding flavor. The risotto incorporates not only the finest Italian ingredients but also Masi's Amarone Costasera wine and grated Monte Veronese cheese – which makes it so special. As mentioned, a wine recommendation is given for each dish – and of course, several wines pair well with different dishes, and vice versa. For the exquisite risotto – incidentally, my favorite of the evening – the 2015 Costasera, also made from Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes, is among the wines recommended. We were also allowed to try this one, and I discovered one of my new favorite red wines, so definitely try it!

What a delicious tasting menu….

After a short break for food and relaxed wine enjoyment, we moved on to the third course and my companion and I were served a wonderful beef fillet with Mediterranean vegetables from the grill – in the glass we stuck with the 2015 Costasera.

The friendly staff frequently checked on us at our table, asking if everything was alright, if we were satisfied, and answering our questions. This gave us the opportunity to taste one or two more Masi wines. That's exactly the idea behind Masi Wine Bar Munich: arrive, relax, sample the wines, and enjoy. In my opinion, it's a real plus that guests can try and get to know each wine by the glass. If a wine doesn't suit your taste, they're happy to recommend an alternative. Don't miss the chance to sample the different wines, especially since the Masi Wine Bar team shares a wealth of wine knowledge with every sip.

Planned for my next visit: The Masi Angelorum Recioto Della Valpolicella Classico

Even the dessert was a delightful surprise, both on the plates and in the glasses. We ended the evening, in a culinary sense, with a warm chocolate cake and fresh berries, accompanied by a 2015 Masi Mezzanella Amandoriato Recioto della Valpolicella Classico. We were also recommended a Masi Angelorum Recioto della Valpolicella Classico, but we stuck with the former – after all, there are plenty more occasions to celebrate and enjoy. 😉 Personally, I'm not a big dessert eater, but I did appreciate the harmonious combination of berries, chocolate, and a rich, sweet red wine.

Hard facts and personal opinion

After our extensive stay, we were absolutely delighted from start to finish – even my rather critical companion thoroughly enjoyed the evening. What didn't we like? – Absolutely nothing. The service was attentive, warm, and highly competent. They didn't just serve and wait on orders, but were also happy to explain the concept, the bar, the wines, and the food.

The venue itself is chic and cozy, and its elongated layout is ideal for ensuring plenty of privacy. The design incorporates red, many warm colors, lots of wood, and an open glass front facing the street. We felt comfortable and decided right there at our table that we'd be back soon. Masi Wine Bar Munich is the perfect spot for a glass of wine, an after-work snack, or even a full tasting menu. On my next visit, I'll definitely try the sunny terrace – Masi wine in my glass, perfectly paired dishes on my plate, and a view of Maximilianstrasse included. I'll show you the breakfast soon, too. Enjoy!
