Delhi Palace | Delivery service review via Lieferheld.de My test series for Lieferheld delivery services continues. I've already ordered sushi, pizza, and Thai food, and now I'm moving on to one of my favorites: Indian. I know that many people don't like Indian food. That's a real shame, because Indian cuisine offers an incredible variety of dishes. A quick aside before we get to the review: When it comes to Indian food, people often have the misconception that everything tastes the same, like curry, and that—no matter what you order—everything is swimming in sauce. That's not entirely true. Of course, there are countless dishes served with rice, but the variety is practically endless. From different lamb dishes, fish dishes, and stews with potatoes, lentils, vegetables, and so on, to sauce-free rice dishes with vegetables, almonds, shrimp, or even Indian cheese (paneer), to dishes from the tandoor, the Indian clay oven. And of course, the numerous appetizers and Indian drinks, such as lassi, are an essential part of the experience. In Germany, lassi, originally made with just yogurt and milk, was also introduced with mango. These are just a few of the dishes that Indian restaurants typically offer on their menus. A significant distinction is also made between South and North Indian cuisine. In Munich, there's a restaurant that exclusively serves South Indian food. There, you can find dishes like dosa with various fillings, or main courses with bananas, tomatoes, and coconut. Personally, I enjoy both styles very much. However, my order—as is more common in Munich—was for North Indian cuisine.
Delhi Palace on Lieferheld: The selection
So, with the goal of getting some delicious Indian food, I clicked my way through the various delivery services. Since I really enjoy Indian food and eat it a lot, I was already familiar with many of them, and some of the delivery drivers even knew me personally. 😉 So it was time for something new. After a few clicks, I landed on the delivery service – and one I remembered from a visit a long time ago – Delhi Palace. Delhi Palace is an Indian restaurant on Flurstraße, which used to operate under a different name and was unfortunately always quite empty. When the name (and presumably the owner) changed, things started to improve. Naturally, I was all the more interested to see how the food had developed. Based on my previous (approximately) 200 restaurant visits and orders from Indian restaurants in Munich, and even numerous taste tests of Indian food in India itself, I now have a pretty good idea of what Indian food should taste like. I'm going into so much detail because the food from Delhi Palace is truly impressive. Sure…it doesn't always look so nice when delivered in the white plastic trays, but even though we all know that we eat with our eyes, the taste clearly wins out here.
So, my companion and I decided to order different Indian dishes. We'd eaten appetizers like samosas (filled and fried vegetable pastries) or mixed vegetable pakora (vegetables baked in chickpea flour) so often that we wanted to try something new. We opted for paneer pakora – also baked in chickpea flour, with homemade cheese (for €4.90) – as a starter. For our main courses, we chose two vegetarian and two meat dishes: Murg Badami (chicken breast fillet in a milk, almond, and coconut sauce | €12.50), Mutton Dahiwala (lamb in a yogurt curry sauce with mandein and saffron | €12.70), Shabsie Thipuri (mixed vegetables with sesame, cashews, coconut, and raisins | €11.50), and – my favorite besides Palak Paneer! – Malai Koftas (vegetable balls with crème fraîche in almond sauce | €10.90). They're so delicious, and as soon as I see them on the menu, my decision is usually made. While not exactly diet-friendly, they taste absolutely wonderful. If you like things slightly sweet and enjoy almonds and vegetables, go for the Malai Koftas. Palak Paneer – although we didn't order it – is also very good. All the dishes I ordered were absolutely delicious and tasted very authentic. Indian food is often much milder for European palates than what you would get in India itself. And that's a good thing, otherwise very few people would be able to enjoy what they ordered. 😉 In the case of Delhi Palace, however, I can definitely give you the thumbs up. The food is good, arrived hot, and was delivered quickly. The restaurant has received a lot of mediocre reviews from other Lieferheld customers regarding delivery times. Of course, that's certainly true, but I personally only had to wait just over 30 minutes.
Order via the convenient Lieferheld app
This time – yes, my occasional weekend laziness can still be taken to new heights 😉 – I was even too lazy to fire up my laptop and ordered (as I have so often in the past) via the super practical and intuitive Lieferheld app. It works flawlessly, and ordering your food is just as quick and easy with a few clicks (and subsequent PayPal payment). The display shows you as soon as the order has been submitted, and at the same time, you (optionally) receive the order confirmation SMS directly to your smartphone, as mentioned in my other articles about Lieferheld. I think it's fair to call this a perfectly optimized service. I honestly can't recall a single instance of a problem with any of my Lieferheld orders (…I just did a rough count, and it's actually over 70…). So, with Lieferheld, and also with the Indian restaurant and delivery service Delhi Palace, you're in good hands.
You can usually recognize a good Indian restaurant – though not always – by the fact that the menu doesn't feature schnitzel, pizza, and spaghetti on the second page. "Stick to what you know," as I always say. 🙂 If you're now craving Indian food, head to the App Store and download the Lieferheld app, or create an account on your computer and order from Delhi Palace. The Bianca was a really good choice. 😉 We even received a free bottle of mango lassi with our order, which was very well received. If this is your first time ordering Indian food, I strongly advise against ordering anything labeled "spicy." Even men and women of Indian descent often break out in a sweat over it. 😉 Generally, with any dish that has a saucy side, you'll always have some sauce left over, and the rice will be gone. Order one or two pieces of naan (an Indian flatbread made from yeast dough | €2.50) to go with it, so you can dip the sauce in the bread. Enjoy!.
